EU countries should...

...think with our own heads and if someone wants to show muscles there is a lot of space on the other side where Alaska is.  ;)

Lizard,

this comparison is useless for the argumentation in my view.

If a regional government creates a referendum and only allows the people of that region to vote, this is not a correct democratic process, because the regional government was not authorised by the Spanish constitution to hold a referendum.

If tomorrow the local politicians in Istria hold a referendum to separate Istria from Croatia, the Croatian government would rightly oppose it. Italy would resist if Lombardy did the same. And in these fictitious cases, too, I see no reason why NATO should interfere there.

In contrast to Catalonia, which sought autonomy, the Crimea, the Donbass or Luhansk are not about autonomy, but about becoming part of the Russian empire - that is a completely different background!

Yes and that's exactly what happened in Kosovo. The local separatist Albanian authorities of autonomic province of Kosovo held an illegal independence referendum within the autonomy between 26 and 30 September 1991, and they were not authorized by Serbian republic government of which Kosovo region was essential part of. Then they established paramilitary troops and started ethnically cleaning Serbian population.

So this is same exact example as the ones you stated above.

Can you point out any other differences for discussion, cause as someone who knows the history of the region I don't see any ?

1. What country are you from?
2. 101 UN states have recognized Kosovo.
3. As a result of the 1999 war between Serbs and Albanians, the region came under UN control.
4. On February 17, 2008, the parliament of Kosovo declared independence.
5. 92% of Albanians live in Kosovo.
6. In 1974, the autonomous rights of the territory of Kosovo were extended and these rights were equated with other republics of Yugoslavia.

Conclusions: When a country breaks up, in this case Yugoslavia, the emergence of a country like Kosovo is quite logical and democratic. And in vain you support Serbia here.
There is no need to compare with Crimea. It's like comparing a monkey and a human.

7. If you do not support Serbia, then you should be grateful to NATO for helping to end the civil war in Kosovo. As a result of the war, a new state of Kosovo emerged.

Repeat after me: The situation with Kosovo is absolutely the same as the one in Crimea.

In 1939. there were 62.3% of Serbs and 37.6% Albanians. The politics of Yugoslavia of accepting Albanian refugees ended up with such ethnically cleansing that Serbs made less than 1.47 % in 2011.

We can also compare it with Catalonia where 90%+ people that voted chose independence on democratic referendum and police used force to stop them but I haven't seen NATO intervening.

As a Croatian I have absolutely no reason to defend the Serbs who destroyed 1/3 of my country and forced me to fight right after my high school graduation but Im defending the justice here.

As a matter effects Serbs wanted same thing in Croatia to take away regions with majority of Serbian population withing my country and join them with Serbia. The Yugoslav national army took their side and went with full force on fresh Croatian unarmed side destroying everything. NATO didn't want to piss of Russia, traditional Serbian friend, and forced a embargo on Croatia to buy weapons to defend itself. So the only way was to buy it on the black market.

And those are facts

What does NATO have to do with Kosovo? You will study the question first.
Yugoslavia as a country disintegrated a long time ago. Therefore, the Republic of Kosovo itself decides how and with whom to live.
You probably support the Serbian pro-Russian occupiers?

Time for education...so repeat after me...

Kosovo was never a Yugoslav Republic. Kosovo was a region of autonomy based on majority of Albanian population and essential part of the Republic of Serbia.

I support Serbs so much that I spent years of best times of my life defending my country against them in first lines, while they were lunching thousands of missiles a day with 4. Army force in Europe on a fresh recognized country that didn't even have an army. All we got from NATO and the rest of the company is weapons embargo so that we can not even buy it to defend ourself.

And that's a bit different than what you are doing my dear keyboard warrior.

But justice is justice.

But not through war and occupation, but through the voluntary entry of new members into the organization. What's wrong with NATO? NATO, unlike Russia, is not a fascist and terrorist organization.

Repeat after me: REFERENDUM IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF DEMOCRACY. THE ONES AVOIDING IT ON ANY COST DON'T GIVE A F..K ABOUT WILL OF PEOPLE. COUNTRIES ARE PEOPLE.

NATO is spreading terror and rewriting historical borders is same Fascist way as Russia.

At this time NATO is supporting and doing the same thing Russia is trying to do with Crimea, just on Kosovo. Exactly same thing just in this case NATO supports separatist for its own interests.

russia has no right to have any say in re-drawing the borders of any sovereign country. Not Ukraine, not Georgia, not Moldova, not the Baltic countries, not Poland nor Romania. Not even Belarus.

Now explain to me what gave US right to do exactly the same what Russia is doing and forced them with and invasion to give up Kosovo ?

How was that not re-drawing the borders and what is the difference between Kosovo being stolen from Serbia and Russia trying to do the same ?

In short, you can't , there is no difference and no google will help you explain something you don't know crap about to someone that knows everything about it.

The russian empire is still in place with its colonial and imperialist agenda, dominating 190 ethnic groups (Tatars, Chechens, Bashkirs, Chuvash, Avars, Dargins, Kazakhs, etc...), many of which are still living in well defined regions, despite the aggressive ethnic cleansing, deportation and russification policies they were subject to.

As I recall Pequot, Mohegan, Massachusetts...were just a few of those that were completely extinct.

I wonder how are the rest doing nowadays and when are they getting their land back ?

I mean 56 millions people killed ( more than whole Europe population at the time ) is also not a thing you can just wipe under the carpet. Killing 90% of homeland population and stealing their land is everything but something to ignore.

Shure, that's why local are protesting against them all over the world. They can not be more aggressively imposed. Some even after invasions. You know from the other part of the world people want your military near their homes. I can not belive such ignorance and that someone can suck such propaganda LOL.

I can do this all day.

I know you can do this all day.  :D

Are you trying to show that in these countries people have the freedom to protest?
Because that's a good thing!

It only proves that there is no unanimity on this topic. I wonder why would you expect unanimity? Hmm...  ;D

Now its a joke. Its just shows that there is no difference between Russian supporting Putin and you supporting this. Absolutely same brainwash level. Just you both want to play over European or other nations backs using them as pawns and victims.

There is Alaska, both of you have your chance to show muscles. But its easier to spread hate from your sofas and hope others will byte the propaganda  ;)

TODAY, and nobody condemns that. Looks like a win in risk. And Russia would do the same if they could. And most if not all of people in those countries are against those bases being there and it represent hug war hazard potential for their regions as being targets.

1) "TODAY, and nobody condemns that." you and people like you do?
2) "And most if not all of people in those countries are against those bases being there" your conclusion I suspect, not a real bit of statistical data?
3) The governments allow and welcome these bases.

Sure the bases are being imposed with blackmailing terror, direct invasions, corruption of politicians , fear of sanctions and so on.

Show me a list of referendums of people in countries asking for US military presence on democratic basis ?

I know nobody around me would want your base here. Or any other country base.

And if they are such good things, show me a list o foreign military bases on US ground.

And who ever declared US to single willingly act a world policeman despite the will of the world ?

The whole world was against your invasion on false mass destruction weapons lies that everybody knew were lies. Literary the whole world.

Again, with your anti-american whataboutism. Out of nowhere, another "fact" front the russian troll's playbook appeared.  ::)

These military bases are not imposed on anyone.
There is no American invasion in these countries.
Those countries are feeling more secure hosting these basis and are getting paid for it.
Some countries are even lobbying to convince the Americans to open more facilities on their teritories, especially Eastern European countries, who know too well what being a russian vasal meant.

Yes, this is indeed a great solution. Everyone just keeps doing what they've been doing for the past 150 years. Great!

No, we should all exploit and sell oil in billions and show off how we are supporting renewable energy, that's gonna help a lot. And ban cows cause their farts are destroying us.

The Minister President of the State of Baden-Wrttmberg once said a long time ago: Environmental protection is a great and important thing - you just have to be able to afford it.

If we don't change anything, mankind will exploit the last drop of oil (and still make a lot of money with it). In this respect, the way to advance renewable energies as fast as possible is at least better than to go on as before! And this conversion costs now first of all money.

Sure, then we need to start investing in developing technologies that work for the purpose and not in production and putting in use ones that are not alternative at all. But that is not profitable.

Go green while we sell OIL is a stupidity beyond reasons.

No, it's not.
Fossil fuel is still widely needed, because going 100% green is impossible today. The transition is costly and it may take a while.

Only rich countries (like Norway) may afford to invest heavily in green subsidies.

Like Norway, Texas is both a heavy oil producer AND a leader in renewable energy (where smart entrepreneurs are taking advantage of federal subsidies).
There is no contradiction.  ;)

When did I mentioned OIL is not needed ?

Just old car tires are huge deal in the world now, when the times comes to deposit all those used batteries and when that starts to pollute water and I wont even mention the soil destruction when mining for resources needed to produce them. Plus the energy that will be gained from coal. More harm than anything else at the current technology level we are using.

#whataboutism is the russian troll's modus operandi, Pete.

Instead of condemning what happens TODAY, they justify the attrocities happening TODAY, under their eyes, by constantly diverting and spinning towards: "yeah, but what about... usually something about American errors, most of them if not all, already heavily condemned by a majority of Americans (while "proving" their case with pictures first published by the American media  ::))

At least 90% of foreign military bases in the world are U.S. bases. The United States has more than 150,000 military troops deployed outside the United States on more than 800 bases (some estimates are more than 1000) in 160 countries, and all 7 continents.

TODAY, and nobody condemns that. Looks like a win in risk. And Russia would do the same if they could. And most if not all of people in those countries are against those bases being there and it represent hug war hazard potential for their regions as being targets.

Wow, that sure went sideways from a good discussion. When someone brings up a military and Indian conflict, on a personal level, a single event in 1890, which was not the position of the US Government, and for all historical accounts, not the intention of the eventual outcome, but a mistaken action that turned into a tragic ending. Or shows guards, that were in violation of direct orders and the rules of the country they served. (and they were punished for their actions, not rewarded)

Someone come back to governments and wars, of today? Or at least the last 10-20 years? Where it's a leaders position and the position of the government of a country?

The point is that any democratic country should accept international law and courts and accept independent trials for the citizens accused for war crimes and not reject that.

Independent investigation are way more objective and offer way more guarantees that such things wont be repeated.

Is there something strange or wrong for such claim ?

Yep, as I said before, russian trolls are faking climate change or similar "concerns", instigating their audience to ask for fracking to be banned, for nuclear energy to be banned, for off-shore drilling to be banned, for coal to be banned, etc. And using marxist arguments while at it, since this is ingrained in their brains by so many years of communist propaganda.

All of this to maintain a dependency on Russian fossil fuels for as long as possible.

Well, I don't particularly care who does something but the action he does. If I don't agree on the politics that's it, no matter if its coming from Russians, Americans, Norwegians or anyone else.

I i thing its an agenda a bit wider than a single country and it has to do with profit and nothing else.

And the corporations of today can easily influence politicians, media  and scientist with pocket change money from their profits. End on the east the don't even need that cause they are government owned and the board is installed on political bases and connections.

Go green while we sell OIL is a stupidity beyond reasons.

As we speak Norwegian Statoilom is forcing to research OIL sources in Adriatic

The opposite happens in the Black Sea, where OMV is doing it's best to block the exploitation of the massive gas reserves dicovered there.

No surprises, since OMV is an Austrian company and Austria (like Hungary) looks more and more like the former GDR being heavily influenced by Russia (see the former Autrian ministry of foreign affairs kneeling in front of Putin, a few pages above).
OMV has no plans to invest in those gas reserves. They were happy to get the Black Sea license and to sit on it, instead of competing with Russia.

Remember that one of the most important reason why Russia seized Crimea and wishes to landlock Ukraine away from the Black Sea, are the same gas reserves, which could make Ukraine the second largest gas producer in Europe, competing with Russia.

So, if more gas can be extracted from the Adriatic, by a Norwegian company or anyone else except Gazprom, then this is a good thing!
And if corrupted politicians are rightfully trialed, then this is a good thing again.

No its not a good thing and the contracts they signed remain active so people which they robbed of tens of thousands work places and natural resources have no rights at all except the fact that one corrupted idiot is behind the bars. And they will find another one for their next deal in modern corporate colonialism backed up by their goverments.

And its not gas its oil, on shores of a country which main and almost only product is tourism and a single accident can destroy that forever.

For sure I will go to buy an electric car to protect the planet while the one that imposes that campaign aggressively is digging oil in my back yard exploiting billions while my country and the people have minimal benefits from that and admire how those corporations countries have gone far in front of us in renewable energy financed from OIL exploitation. And one of those countries might as well be Russia because they also tried but they were less generous in their bribes to private politicians pockets.

And I should even be ashamed to say that out loud.

What country are you a citizen of? Such thoughts about the United States will lead to the fact that Russia will occupy the whole of Europe, and the United States will not be able to help, because. they were kicked out of Europe by people like you. And China is taking over the rest of the world. If you want to live under Russian or Chinese occupation, my advice to you is: suitcase - railway station - Russia (China).
And give proof to any of your accusations against the United States.

Of a country whose leader openly stood in front of the Russian troops and sad no pass without a war.

A leader on which Stalin sent multiple assassins after 1949 until he had enough and openly told him that on next attempt he will send one and he will not have the need to send another one.

Sure, Russia will or can occupy united Europe. Get real.

Here is another advice, you want to fight Russians...gun...airplane...Ukraine...fight.  ;)

Proof for what, for not respecting Geneva Conventions ? Not a problem:

You want more ? Perhaps some older ones ?

You started twisting the facts. Non-ratification of the court does not mean that the country has committed crimes. There are reasonable explanations for everything, and at one time I read them.
At the expense of destroyed hospitals, killed people, torture, you have no evidence, all this is 90-99 percent propaganda.
Recently, you used Russian propaganda here, wrote that the APU was shooting at the homes of civilians, but this is a lie that the Russians threw in. The Russians themselves kill people, and then immediately blame the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, stop writing in this topic, there is 0 trust in your texts.

LOL  ;D

The only one twisting the facts are you with denying the facts and spreading your little propaganda with closing eyes in fron of your war crimes and pointing fingers only at others while you are basically the same.

Once again, Russia is a country spreading terror in their path of word dominance and so is US and they should both be put on ignore by the rest of the world until they change their aggressive policies and accept the authority of international courts like the rest of democratic world.

Sure, you are probably the on who is gonna decide who writes what and what the truth is.   ;)

Electromobility is being boosted, but other countries are much further ahead. In Norway, 65% of cars sold are currently electric. What's more, 98% of the electricity for electromobility in Norway is generated from renewable energy. These are values that we are very, very far away from here.

That sounds really nice. Hearing it like this it seams that they are doing a great thing for the environment.

Please, lets define things a bit

On the other hand 50% of Norwegian export product is...you got it right OIL. So in numbers a country that contributes worlds population at 0.06% is producing 3.53% of the oil production in the world worth around 22 billion $ yearly.

They are probably decreasing that in time right since all that renewable energy being forward thing and advanced awareness ?

Well lets check it out...

Source: https://tradingeconomics.com/norway/oil-exports

And than their government can nicely use that income to exclude people from VAT obligations when buying electric cars, offer them free or significantly cheaper parking and other benefits and pump the numbers , and there you have it... an idyllic environment friendly mini society so far ahead as an example to the rest of the world to follow.

If we don't mention that Norway is contributing per inhabitant to the worlds oil consumption outside of their borders more than any other nation in the world behind Kuwait ( and not far behind at all  )

This example should be in worlds dictionaries describing Hypocrisy at its finest.

What is a not so hypocritical solution from your point of view? Should Norway stop exporting oil so that Russia (1.8% of the world's population, 12.7% of the world's oil) can sell more oil?

When you are out of arguments just throw Russia in.

The topic was Norway being so further away on renewable energy. The solution is they can as well continue using their oil in their car cause they oil is going to be used anyway around the world.

What a lie, what a delusion. You are trying to attribute the guilt of the fascists and terrorism to democratic countries. And in this way you are trying to divert people's attention from the crimes of the Russians. You act according to the manuals of the KGB. Like, yes, we are bad, but everyone around is also bad and there is no justice anywhere.
The US and EU countries do not engage in genocide and murder. The US Army, if it fights, then only with the enemy army, while observing all the Geneva Conventions. The same Saddam Hussein was a tyrant.

LOL, US is doing anything to avoid international democracy and let the international courts decide who was involved in genocide and who was not.

On 17 July 1998, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court was adopted by a vote of 120 to seven, with 21 countries abstaining. The seven countries that voted against the treaty were China, Iraq, Israel, Libya, Qatar, the U.S., and Yemen;)

BTW...

387,072 civilians have died violent deaths as a direct result of the U.S. post-9/11 wars.

One example of respecting the Geneva Conventions,  On 3 October 2015, US airstrikes destroyed  hospital in operated solely by Doctors Without Borders, Kunduz killing 42 people.

Should I start posting leaked Abu Ghraib torturing photos so you can explain me how those relate to Geneva Conventions ?

And those Russian animals are doing same things in the moment to support their world domination part of the games and the ones supporting them have arguments equally invalid as yours for any normal human being watching that from the side. You are under influence of the same "Conan level" of brainwashing.  ;)

Way too few russians are opposing the war, since the brainwashing state propaganda and the state control over media doesn't leave too many options for the truth to break through.

As we speak Jack Teixeira was arrested for letting the truth break trough. Truth that slightly varies from "Jacks" propaganda.

So, not really, I don't see to much differences in state controls just the names and methods are a bit different but aiming the same thing, to smash anyone telling the truth that proves his country runs on lies and propaganda and punish him badly as example for others.

Honestly I never saw an article in any American relevant media calling the veterans terrorists and murderers when returning from "defending" the country from some invasion on a weaker nation on the other side of the globe based on false evidences blatantly thrown in the face of the rest of the civilized word to justify that . I just see thanking them from their service.

And if you see a different picture that's because you want to see the different picture. In the meanwhile you have a lot of interesting readings in comments sections of main European news sites to check what most of the 3. side people think about that in what we like to call the democratic western world.

Yes, as I said. Nobody is getting a pass.

Rest assured that many Americans are openly opposing such decisions, and are actively fighting to prevent the repetition of such mistakes.

Way to often an anti-American sentiment is translated through whataboutism in a justification for russian attrocities.

I'm glad to see that we can agree on something.

 🇺🇦 Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦

And most likely many Russians are opposing in any justification of this terror. There are just not enough of them and lion nations keep doing their job.

And the sad thing is that not human well-being but profit and mostly corporate profit is the main force behind genocides of any kind with puppet fools with their nationalism hiding behind patriotism dancing on that music.
