@BD, yes that is correct. If the images are approved for the standard collection they will not be added to the free section as one of the 3 images of the week.

Only images that are declined for the standard collection have the potential to be added to the free section.

Hi all,

FYI, out of the entire collection of images that are approved for the free section only 3 images are made available to download each week (that's 3 total, not 3 of yours). Even if you mistakenly submit an image with the free section option set to yes and find that the image is refused for the standard collection but then approved for the free section the odds of it being downloaded are pretty low.

That being said, it is important that you check the settings before you submit. If you are concerned that you have a batch of images that were submitted to the free section shoot me an email and I'll be happy to have the tech team remove them all.

The 10 files web-upload limit doesn't make any sense.

FTP is a much more practical way to upload in my opinion. If you have any questions about using FTP to upload shoot me an email and I'll be happy to help: [email protected]

Hello all, I wanted to follow up to let you know that we have finished applying the sales from the Dollar Photo Club reactivation into the affected Fotolia accounts. The sales have been added as additional full resolution credits sales in addition to the Dollar Photo Club sale/commission that was already applied.

If you have any specific questions or concerns please feel free to write to me directly: [email protected]

Kind regards,

Mat Hayward

I'm not sure I'm following you. What is the primary concern? I searched "gourmet" in Fotolia and found over 1 million results. Are you concerned that the system will change the word gourmet to epicure automatically as a translation into English? As far as I can tell that isn't happening. Please let me know what specific information your concern is based on so I can investigate.

Thank you,

Mat

Nice talk Mat, let us dream!

I don't want to be a killjoy but honestly, why bother when only a preferred part of them will be indexed?
Your new dictionary will change any keyword with never heard (for some of us) synonyms like "gourmet" to "epicure", just because gourmet is not of English origin. Or "medicinal" to "medicative", who knows why?

You say in https://eu.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors/Tips/Indexing/Overview :
"The keywords are certainly the most important fields of the indexation; these often make a huge difference in an images sales potential. This is the customers primary search method. So, it is very important to fill those fields very carefully.

To make sure you use the right keywords, put yourself in the place of a buyer; what keyword would you type in, if you were looking for this particular image?"

That's all true, so:
- would buyers look for "epicure" or for "gourmet" when searching for cake?
- would they look for "medicinal" hers or for "medicative" herbs?
- will my medicinal plant images have better sales potential with the keyword "medicative" as with "medicinal"? Do plants have medicinal properties or medicative properties?
Even in this text the word medicative is red underlined by spell check.

Indeed these words are synonyms but I've never heard about "epicure", I just looked it up in several well known dictionaries and guess what?
My cake is:
http://www.yourdictionary.com/epicure
noun

    1. Someone who has a refined taste for fine food and drink.
An example of an epicure is a writer for a food magazine.
    2. A person devoted to sensuous pleasure and luxurious living.

While gourmet food:
Gourmet is a cultural ideal associated with the culinary arts of fine food and drink, or haute cuisine. Wikipedia.

FT was my no.1 agency (no matter what others say) but I'm totally lost on this new site.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, contributors that had opted out of Dollar Photo Club were inadvertently opted in for approximately 20 hours. Initially when the bug was discovered it was thought that this only impacted the search engine and that buyers received a 404 error if they attempted to purchase a license to use the file. We recently discovered however that some images were downloaded and licensed.

We are very sorry to everyone that this has impacted. To demonstrate our sincerity, any images belonging to opted out contributors that were downloaded while this bug was active were paid a subscription commission and now Fotolia will add a full resolution credit sale commission (standard license) to those effected. Those effected will see the additional commission in the next few days.

My role at Fotolia has recently changed. I have switched into a full-time contributor relations role. Contributors are an important part of Fotolia and I would like to personally prove that to you as we move forward. I can be reached directly via email should you have any questions, comments or concerns: [email protected]

Kind regards,

Mat Hayward

Hi all,

@KarenH, it appears you were given incorrect information. I am very sorry for the confusion. Vimagio does have an api key and they are selling our images legitimately on your behalf. Commissions on sales created through their site are paid immediately through your Fotolia account.

You can read more information about the api program here: https://us.fotolia.com/Services/API

regards,

Mat

Hi All,

Thanks again for your feedback about the Fotolia.com update, it was very helpful. The site development team has been working hard to make the changes that have been requested. Here is an update of what has been done so far....

-The number of keywords entered is now displayed in the indexing form adjacent to each image.
-You can update the category for your online files.
-If you choose to use the web uploader instead of ftp you can upload up to ten 30mb images at once.

Other requests that have been noted and are currently being worked on....

-You will soon be able to update your preferences in the member menu to link to the contributor dashboard instead of the customer dashboard.
-The language will be changed in the indexing page to indicate you can add up to 50 keywords though 30 is recommended.
-Ability to sort keywords in the indexing form.
-Adding file price on the image tooltip for your own images.

Thanks again. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to reach out to me directly via email: [email protected]

Mat, is Adobe holding on to the legacy decisions of Fotolia, or will they let people back in that got expelled without clear reason given?

@SemmickPhoto, Nothing has changed at Fotolia regarding policies and procedures. I'm more than happy to discuss individual account issues privately. Feel free to email me: [email protected].

OK what does this mean?

"You are about to submit 1 content. Content without complete indexing will be saved but not submitted for moderation.
Cancel/Confirm"

No idea  ???

Clicked confirm and it went thru to review anyway

Did the same. and not submitted. Im lost on this new system. Always said....whatever site makes this painless wins. This has Pain.

That message is informing you that IF there is a problem the changes you made will be saved.

If there is a problem after you click to submit the area that is not completed should be highlighted with a thin red box.

Hi all,

The web uploader has been updated at Fotolia. You can now upload 10 images up to 30mb each at a time.

Hopefully this change will help those of you that were struggling with uploads. I do still recommend you use ftp to upload when possible. If you have any questions about how to use ftp please feel free to send me an email: [email protected]

Thanks!

Hi all, just a quick note to let you know that you can still upload images with a maximum of 50 keywords. It's been determined that the sweet spot for keywords is between 20-30 so the number 30 you have read on the site is a recommendation and not a mandate or change. The language will be changed on the site asap.

-Mat

Thank you Mat.  Very good to know.  So if I want I can upload as usual.

By sweet spot, do you mean that images with 20 to 30 keywords sell better and/or are better placed in the searches?

Yes, you can upload as usual.

The most effective "best practice" is to add between 20-30 relevant, high quality keywords to maximize visibility in the search.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stock Photography in Seattle
« on: March 27, 2015, 13:44 »
I live in the Seattle area and love it! For me (red headed freckle face) the weather is perfect. For the most part the people are nice though you should keep in mind it is a very liberal city and seems to be very closed minded to anyone with a conservative mindset. Traffic does suck in a fairly epic way pretty much all the time so there's that. We do have the greatest football teams (NFL and MLS) in the world to make up for it though.

There is no limit to the number of images you can submit in a day.

I just uploaded an image to confirm. I found that the default answer to the questions "Is this file exclusive to Fotolia?" and "If your file is declined by our editors, can we place it in the Fotolia free section?" was NO.

If you are finding a different result in your account, will you please send me an email or PM with your login name or account number name so I can check it out?

Thank you,

Mat

It a pig how the Fotolia system works because every so often they reset the default answers to "exclusive" question on the upload screen
...
So you can easily get caught out and give them exclusivity and a free image if you are not careful.

Exactly, it's so frustrating... Specially that you need to delete image if you make any mistake, not only that one...

Please feel free to send me an email if you need to change the status of exclusivity on your images.

-Mat

email: [email protected]

But why don't fotolia just sort that problem out if we choose not to give fotolia exclusivity and a free image why do they reset the questions?

I don't have an answer for that Teddy. I will check it out. My last upload I had to click those settings only once, then all images after that had the same results automatically checked. Even the categories and sub-categories stayed as they were for the previous image. If I logged out and started over again I had to reset the defaults I wanted. I'm assuming you are experiencing the same results, if I am mistaken please let me know.

Beppe Grillo, if you prefer to send an email to [email protected] instead I will still respond to you as quickly as possible :)

Have a great weekend!

So awkward...that's what you get for using an image you didn't buy in an ad campaign:

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Excess of noise in 5DMKIII
« on: February 06, 2015, 14:17 »
I don't share that experience at all. ISO 1600 on my 5D Mark iii yields almost no visible noise. 3200 I see a bit but even at ISO 6400 the files are very manageable. Might be a good idea to send it in to the shop to get a tuneup.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: New Canon full frame DSLR 50MP!
« on: January 30, 2015, 13:09 »
I'm struggling to get excited about this. Bigger isn't better in my opinion. A 50mp sensor seems like overkill to me. I would much rather have a faster shutter, this is slower than the 5D Mark III. I do like that it's got a magnesium alloy body, dust and water sealed considering I just spilled a small amount of water on one of my 5D's this past weekend at Sundance and fried the screen. Time lapse movie mode does sound like some fun though. I thought for sure there would be Wifi in any new bodies coming out this year.

For me personally, I think the best news about this is that the price of the 5D Mark III will undoubtedly go even lower and I need to get another asap.

I'm probably lying to myself though. If the price is less than 4K I'll probably end up getting one.

Paparazzi using drones: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/paparazzi-take-to-the-skies-to-pursue-stars-with-drones/

"Yeah, absolutely," he said. "You're walking down Rodeo Drive here in Beverly Hills, and there's a pack of paparazzi. Why wouldn't there be 30 drones flying over them?" Yup

These things definitely look like a lot of fun but as the technology evolves and the price comes down the dirtbags will take advantage in the worst ways. Not just paparazzi but drug dealers could make drops in town or across the border, hacks will be created to weaponize them. In my opinion, any number of nefarious uses will inevitably make these annoying at best and more-than-likely dangerous.

I am about to sell a used 1D Mark III. It's been used pretty aggressively but works very well. Make me an offer.
