If your not already on iStock, which I doubt you are since you are asking this question, you have to be approved through them to get images on their site. It's not an easy process. If they do approve your images, then they will automatically put the photos on Thinkstock as well as iStock.

Why don't you buy another SB 600? I don't know what camera your using but as far as the D90 and the D7000, you can set up two separate flashes and use the on-camera flash as master. You can still set up your flashes manually. If you are wanting more than two flashes then I'd get the SB900.

I'm emerald and haven't recieved a letter as yet.  I wonder if Lisa has had one!!

I'm not aware of having gotten one, but I've been offline for days.  Doing remodeling and can't access my office or computer.  Reading this on my tiny netbook.  I didn't get the letter in my webmail account, unless spam filter got it.

FWIW, I would expect to leave FT if I was dropped to white commission level. My income there is already less than half what it was a year or so ago.  I will not be told where I can upload.  That's the whole point behind being independent.

That's the whole point...no one should be able to tell you where you can upload the images you own without stating it in a contract before hand or tell you how much YOU chose to sell them for. They are your images. That should only be for exclusives...not independents.

Wish I was a lawyer with a million dollars in assets....I'd sue the pants off of them and double my assets....lol

I am so glad I dropped them back when they cut prices over a year ago. This sounds like the same thing all over again. Everyone talking about a revolt, but in the end everyone decides to swallow and take it. Same thing with iStock. I'm guilty as most of you are with iStock because I still have my port on there. I deleted everything but my sellers and haven't uploaded since September. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing doesn't happen with Fotolia.

Not that my opinion really counts around here but I feel like microstock in general is driving itself into the ground. I really feel sorry for those of you that have to completely rely on microstock for your living because those are the ones who are really getting screwed.

Heh I think he would make a lot off of a reality TV show...doesn't matter if it's a hit or not....those are under contract. He'd get paid good money regardless, then if he gets the copyright to all those photos, that's a win win for him.

*snip*

Regarding the profile pic - seemed like the only say to let people know I've been banned, rather than I'm suddenly thrilled to bits with everything iStock does :)
They didn't ban you because of your comment in the "Feast" thread, did they?! >:(
(that one really made me LOL)

Yes

I love that profile picture....it really gets the point across without saying a word!!!

KB I'd go with the better business bureau or at least threaten to turn them over if they don't treat you fairly. Sometimes it just takes saying the word "BBB" to get their attention and then they will do what you ask. If they don't then do it.

Shutterstock Payment Tables
Here it shows the full description and breakdown of payments for all types of image purchases.

Still hard to fathom that even with an excess of $10,000 lifetime earnings that on a 25-a day subscription you would still only earn $0.38 cents per download - only $0.13 cents more than someone with less that $500 lifetime earnings.

Here's the link:

http://submit.shutterstock.com/earnings_schedule.mhtml

I have a total of 319 images on Shutterstock. I haven't uploaded to them but maybe a few in over a year. I make pay out every two sometimes three months with my port just sitting there. I average about $30.00 a month, sometimes more. That's more than I make at any of the other stock sites. There are some on here that make payout on a monthly basis and many make more on there than they do on iStock with the large portfolio's.

My attention has since turned to more marketable avenues where I make a lot more money. Microstock doesn't really interest me any more and I'll just let my ports sit there and earn what they will. I'll probably upload some every now and then but they are no longer my top priority.

Can one buy all the series of his cartoons and publish as a book, with a regular license?

To publish a book, you would need an Extended Licence, I suppose (like with calenders or posters for resale), but otherwise than that: Yes, you could make a book out of them.

I don't know they would use them to publish a book. You'd have to have a story line and I don't think one page would quite do it. I could see them being used in newspaper's in the comic section.

They're a shady company. Been so since the beginning. It's no surprise that they would be making promises they can't keep, or perhaps never had any intention of keeping.

What promises don't they keep?

I am new in this bussines and have portfolio only on depositphotos (shutter did not accept my images :( ). And I saw that somebody was saying about low cost subscription commisions. How mush shutter pay for download by subscription?

It depends on what your sales totals are, the more sales volume the higher your tier which in turn you make more than .25 and their on demand downloads are greater also. Deposit photos is kinda like that...the more $ worth of sales the higher tier you become which means more per download, but the difference at the time is the sales volume. Maybe someday Depositphotos sales volume will be as good as Shutterstock, but as of now it is not....for me anyway. I have more photos on Depositphotos than I do on Shutterstock but my sales volume is much higher on Shutterstock. That is the big difference. It's the sales volume is what makes the difference.

I've scanned one slide I have and it came out pretty good. I've got the old Epson Perfection 1650 and it scans photos and has an attachment to scan slides and negatives. I very rarely use it for that but when I do it doesn't do to bad.

Alamy would reject that in a heartbeat for "soft and lacking definition".  I doubt it would get by at any of the micros.

I never have tried submitting it and never will because I know they would never accept it because of the very reason's you stated. It is very soft focus.

You have to have $100.00 in your account to request payout.

thanks for posting that rubyroo...

yuliang11...even though you haven't had any problems with them and you choose to stay that's your choice, but for me personally I wouldn't have anything to do with them because of the apparent mistreatment  of their customer's and then bad mouthing them on a public forum. They have since apologized but probably only because she went public with it. That really says a lot about a way a business views their customers and mistreatment of them.

Oh ok now I see...I don't live any where near big cities so it wouldn't do me much good. I would think they would only advertise for popular travel destinations.

I did and all I saw was discount travel packages and special's on lodging. No where did I see anything about photography.

168
I believe they are looking for the big names with successful ports.

"Currently, we are actively seeking partnerships with top photographers and illustrators. If you consistently produce great pictures or illustrations, then we would love to see your work on our site! That is why we are making a very special promotional program available to the most talented photographers and illustrators."

I'm having more sales at Big Stock than I am at Dreamstime at the moment and when they sale you always get a bigger chunk of money...;)

171
That's what I was thinking...it's for those who have the huge portfolio's. They might do it if you didn't already have an account.

172
They are slowly picking up steam...it's taken them awhile. I just wish the majority of sales weren't the subs. I haven't uploaded anything for a long time...that really goes for all the agencies...kinda lost incentive with all the crap going on, but I think if you had a really good sized port with good selling images it would be worth it.

173
Just to be clear, the .10/"every image uploaded" only applies to the first 500.  So the max you could expect to get paid is $50.  Not all that much of an enticement.

Indeed. How are the sales there? And what's the min payout, I wonder if you can get to it by just uploading 500 shots (I highly doubt it;)?

Minimum payout is $50.00. I have one sometimes two sales a week, but they are usually only sub .30 so it takes a lot for them to add up.
Plus I don't have but 400+ in my port.

There was a glitch on Monday sometime when the Financials tab wouldn't load for a while; but it was sorted quite quickly.  That must have been when you first tried.

Unfortunately you've missed the cut off for PayPal, you won't receive the payment now until the 21st.

Maybe that's why there was a glitch....lol

175
I thought that was just for the big ports...they are doing it for everyone..I mean the .10 deal?

I already have a port on there.
