A very wise man's words:

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Amen to that... ;)

If you were at the twin towers on 9/11 I think you would have a different view of the world.

OK OK let's not get too excited

1.   We have a 40 minute firefight and a video of a room that doesnt look like it was in a 40 minute firefight.
2.   We have a burnt down mansion and a room that doesnt look like it was involved in a fire.
3.   We have a dead OBL but the body was disposed of immediately.
4.   We have apparent DNA evidence that was gathered and ivestigated by the people who are telling this story.
5.   We have Obama saying no American was injured or hurt in this fight, yet one of the US choppers was shot down and crashed into the mansion destroying further evidence.
6.   We have OBL supposedly hiding in a mansion located close to the Pakistan military base... is this going to be used as an excuse in the future to start a fight with Pakistan to get in there and take their Nuclear weapons?
7.   We have eight months of surveillance by the US government, yet there is no footage of OBL or anyone in that time.
8.   We have images of OBL on CNN claiming to be new photos of OBL yet he doesnt look any older than he did 10 years ago.

pseudonymous...maybe you need to read earlier in this thread about the picture...maybe you need to check out your sources before you start throwing more propaganda out there.

Looking at the pictures I wouldn't exactly call that a mansion. It had 18 foot walls with barbed wire around them.

I know of people who have crashed in helicopters and were not killed or wounded.

I don't recall them saying the "so called mansion" burnt to the ground either. The fire could have been anywhere on the outside which was photographed, but I don't think that meant it burnt to the ground.

More information will come out in the following days and I'm not going to make judgement until all the facts come into play.

I saw this on MSNBC and it reminded me of some situation that I read about here... Anyone remember what it was?

Quote
On Wednesday Kristopher Johns of Alabama filed a suit in U.S. District Court accusing Sony of "negligence in data security" and of not taking "reasonable care to protect, encrypt, and secure the private and sensitive data of its users" as well as for taking too long to notify him and other customers that their data had been pilfered.

Johns and his attorneys are seeking class action status for the case as well as monetary compensation and free credit card monitoring for everyone affected.

Are you thinking of the ordeal with Facebook not to long ago with the privacy issue?

Yeah it's quick and easy unless you forget you have to check categories they assign. It use to be you would have to check those before you could submit. Now they just show a green light. I forgot to check categories on two last time I submitted and they got put back in the editing bin. Good thing I checked or I would have never known.

Newbie Discussion / Re: New to stock, need some advice.
« on: April 25, 2011, 14:13 »
Hello.

I am currently a Getty contributor through Flickr and its really going great for me. The problem however is that the review times and such are getting longer and longer apart, so over the past year I have managed to add only 47 images. I am happy with the arrangement, but am interested in going a little further.

So, I signed up for Alamy a little while back and got approved. I am thinking of going forward with that. Getty doesn't accept editorial at this point (from me anyway) so I was really looking at alamy as a place to put my editorial type shots (rallies, events, city shots...etc).

Also, I shoot a lot of animals (not literally!) and they sell really well for me. I can fire off 100's of animal cutouts with interesting themes without a problem. I have access to different animals and settings. But again, Getty is just too slow.

How would I fair with Alamy? I really want to keep this simple and want to stay with one or two good options. It cuts down on the confusion and lets me focus more.

Are there any other options for animal shots? Any good animal stock libraries?

My website is http://www.chadlatta.com (just getting going) and http://www.flickr.com/chadlatta, if you want to see any of my work.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Chad

I'm not even done looking at your website and I had to say you do some real beautiful work!!! I'm on Alamy but only sale very little and I'm not on Getty. The big boys and girls here have to give you advice on that....I just had to say...your animal pics are awesome!!

Don't want to sound stupid here, but how do you get to the darkroom feature. I have my bookmark set on the stats page and don't see a darkroom feature..... ::)

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Contributor's Collective
« on: April 23, 2011, 15:28 »
you would fill your server space with contributors who haven't shown the ability to sell images?

All my photos sell, and quite a few of them sell well, and steadily, thanks.  Good luck with your 'collective'.  You might also want to set up CollectiveGroup.com.

So do mine and of course I was turned down, but that's just the way it is.....I really don't care, but I gotta add that without variety, things won't do very good...what's the saying??? What is one mans garbage is another mans treasure....some people like to buy a different type of stock...not the studio but candid, not isolated but natural. I don't see a whole lot of variety. I can also understand him being selective, but being a little to selective limits the variety. Sorry if I offended any one but that's the way I feel about it... ;)

Maria you made my granddaughters day...It took her three times before she realized there was someone it white tights under those dinosaurs...which is good otherwise she'd want me to consistently play it over and over.....lol

I clicked on them and got a perfectly normal google search.
ETA . Ah I just read the admin note.

I got the Google page, but then clicked on one of the images.   Some variant of the  usual 'your system may be infected' cr@p popped up and a fake progress bar started advancing.  Forewarned, people...

I also got that on one of the images. I just closed it out and when I got through doing my thing on the net I ran AVG...nothing of course but that is probably because I didn't click the warning link.

Quite disturbing. I found many high quality shots from Yuri etc. this way.

I had no idea it was that easy...
Online resolution should be less than 800 pixels.

It seems to always be a losing battle doesn't it?

I think it is always important for the upper level folks to hear from the lower level folks. There is no harm in doing this.

I have had numerous positions in management and it is true that I never really knew what was going on down at the retail employee level.

I always appreciated hearing directly from those employees rather than the overly filtered reports from lower and middle management who only have the interest of covering their asses and recieving their quarterly bonuses in mind.

So you appreciated and thought it important to hear from the lower level folks but having done so you had no idea what was happening!! Maybe you could take over from KT  ;)

I think what he is trying to say is that being in upper management that you don't always know what's going on down the line, but if an employee comes to you personally with concerns that you wouldn't have heard otherwise, then that makes you more aware of the problem which may not be reported through the chain of command.  Someone in upper management gets their information through the management below them...that's why they are there.

Positive at microstock - I can work when and if I feel like it and I still make money. Granted it isn't a lot, but it still is something. I am sure if I actually worked hard and smart at this I'd make more. Then again, if I wanted a real job I'd probably try to find one. Shutterstock is up this year, that is positive. Dreamstime earnings also seems to be recovering from the commission drop a year ago.

here is my latest "entertainment" that involved photography somewhat... a marathon day hike in the Grand Canyon - I even have got some pics to upload out of the deal.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Upload Limits Slashed
« on: April 12, 2011, 11:35 »
Not only that but I think they also want us to be more selective and only upload our "best" shots instead of tons and tons of images of the same shoot...  ???

I don't have a lot of similar uploads, but there have been cases where a photo I don't think has a lot of sales potential, sales like crazy...so having to chose what is the best can sometimes be difficult because what I think is good someone else might think is pure crap...so it's difficult when you're limited. I don't advocate uploading 30 similar, but more than just a couple would be much fairer in my opinion.

Personaly!  I think the old beast, 28-70, is one of the best zooms ever made and many would agree on that. Problem is: not very practical zoom-range.

Ive used the 24-70 a lot with the D3X, good lens but not one of my favourites, some samples show plenty of CA at 24 mil and I dont like the cheap desing of a helicod barrell.

Chris

I keep researching and one site I found said the 24-70 is better on the FX bodies and the 28-70 was better on DX bodies. Did you shoot with the 28-70 on both?

Sure, start selling T-shirts, making money and the next thing you know, Getty will want 85% of those sales.

That is so funny, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they did.

Heh you better get them designed before Getty gets it trademarked!!!!.lol
