few of mine have been yanked. I figure it is because of the insurance guarantee they are now giving subscribers.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS tax from this month
« on: November 03, 2009, 17:43 »
I have hung off from sending in the form. I still dispute the requirement since most countries have a taxation agreement with the USA. You pay tax in your home country. It seems to me what is happening is an odd sales tax situation.

But it looks like there is no point, and I will have to sign the form. I just think it sucks, because now there will be a post on my Australian Taxation file and I will have to go through all the crap dealing with them over the $3000 I earn each year from stock.

Worst month ever at DT. $38.

Have not even considered stock yet. Just wanted to capture that old enthusiasm for art again.

Canon / my first lensbaby attempts
« on: October 29, 2009, 18:17 »
I am not exactly over the moon with my attempts, but I have not had a lot of time to play with this thing. I am really looking forward to having a go on the weekend. Trying to find the sweet spot after bending the lens is pretty tough.

I could delete my portfolio, but that would require effort. Besides ... I like to complain.

One day, and it is not a folly
I will come upon the site
as if by accident, having long forgotten
or bothered to check my account
held up there in cold Norway it is
where winds are heavy
and the coastline is rough
One day, I say, I will log on in
save if it is that by then I remember
my login details
and there

beyond the colon I see a "1"
a hot steamy "1"
a sale! in Euros no less!
excitement will prevail
a cause of an exclamation point or 3
I will post, in this forum
the glee, the glee, the glee
from deep deep down in Australia
you shall hear me full of glee
or beer perhaps
as I raise a toast to those
whale hunting hordes in the high north
and post with admiration a
discussion where upon I call on you all
to wear hats with horns
and buy large rowing boats
oh I will be happy
I know it
Until soon thereafter I realise
many more must come

until I reach a payout.

Yes i see they have taken the page down. You get a free wide angle kit if you buy a lensbaby this month and send lensbaby your istockphoto name.

I don't use models for micro. But after joining a photo club I went on a few model shoots. Some of the girls told me they work for around $20 an hour. That is pretty cheap in my view.

« on: October 21, 2009, 21:59 »
Last month's sales afforded me a purchase of a flash for the Canon, and a new Lensbaby Composer.

I don't see me using the lensbaby for stock, but I think i will have lots of fun with it.

Friend of mine asked the same question. so I gave my opinion, and he came back from the store with an Olympus Pen.

The photos he takes is amazing. He is a learner. Man this thing is so fantastic.

In reply to Gostwick: Yeah sometimes the Virgin mob look ok. But for me that is the end of it because it is essentially a brand with different owners. In Australia, their customer service in both the phone systems and airways is disgraceful. I have found their staff to be arrogant, and deceitful.

In reply to Noodles: I too have found the same. Most of the Euro beer I have tried reminds me of dishwater.

General Stock Discussion / Re: More bad news on economy
« on: October 15, 2009, 00:38 »
At one stage I was making close to a good living doing rural photography before I started stock. Back then, finished 2004, magazine sales were already plummeting, and advertising was way down. In the end I was lucky to get $400 for a front cover that took all day to set up. Inside pics were down to $30-50.

It is pretty tough making a living in any journalistic venture nowadays.

I get a bit annoyed with all this. No company, regardless of its reputation, embarks on this sort of behaviour. People do. People in the company do.

What has to start to take place is the names of the INDIVIDUALS responsible in these corporations need to be made public so their friends, family, their kid's friends and family, and everyone in the world knows who exactly these people are and what types of behaviour disorders they exhibit.

For far too long we hear "the business has decided ...". That is crap. A business is inanimate, it cannot decided diddly squat. An individual or a group of individuals decided ... and their names are: ...

Well at the moment it is a fun gadget, but no more useful than doing this in Excel.

For it to have value you really need to get some statistics on seasonal trends, and follow the economics situation as far as spends in advertising etc..

I have been making $50 a month with my Tees. Trying to get paid is another issue. Sick of waiting and sending emails.

« on: October 07, 2009, 20:00 »
USA has a taxation agreement with most countries. You pay tax in your own country.

Mind you a lot of those people selling stuff on the internet also scam buyers with taxation. For instance, you should not be paying either sales or goods and services tax if your purchase is not to be used in the country of purchase.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime to start selling prints
« on: October 07, 2009, 19:57 »
I sell my landscapes at the market from $100 to $200 mounted. There is about $60 to $120 margin in that.

The stuff I sell for stock does not get the same attention to detail, does not take ages to get the right shot, and does not cost travel money.

SS are not alone in the tax mistake. Lots of sites misunderstand the taxation requirements.

Apart from that, what I do not like is the minute I stop submitting for a while my sales fall through the floor. This month I will be lucky to make $10, yet 6 months ago I could get $100 payout easy.

I certainly would not put landscapes on there to be only compensated $10.

This is not for stock, just for fun. I have seen some people produce great pics, and wondered if anyone has used one. Any tips?
