Ok, It's perhaps not that bad then but the images do sell over yonder. The first 4 images in succession were rejections but lower down reasons were given for further rejections if that helps.

Next to them all it says "not approved"

Ok, I thought a few images might get through the approval but all 10 were rejected !!!!! Soul destroying. Some on focus, the wrong type of focus, some not even a reason. Basicly a waste of time and I haven't the time to waste working out why AND I have to wait 30 days. I thought IS was bad enough. I know most are good images so I will try not to let it get to me. In fact, some they said were not saleable are my best selling on IS.

Terrible month. Photo sales have dropped every month this year so far. Dec up to now is even worse. Absolutely awful.

I really for the life of me cannot get 10 edited files submitted as it's telling me one or more files has errors BUT it doesn't say what the errors are.

Ok here is my link. I tend to major on Sound Effects there now and don't submit images but I have plenty in my folio for you to get an idea. What I like about SS is you can submit editorial images and not have to worry about logos, model releases etc. My college background specialised in editorial in the dark old days of the 80's ;-)

So I'd suggest going for the lighter/brighter/more colorful items from your portfolio and staying away from the more muted shots (and no flowers as yours all seem to be of the type that SS might reject - accurate botanical shots of a plant in a setting rather than a visual "WOW").

So, things like these are good for SS, IMO:

Thanks. Not all of them would be my first choice but I see what you mean. Bright, punchy and vibrant but not 100% sharp ? I say this because when I last submitted 2 or 3 years ago they were very keen on focus.

I'd stay away from things like these for SS:

Hope this helps. You'd want the 10 shots to be a variety of subjects - so your busker, the war medals on a veteran, the off license sign, the two entertainers on a stage are some other types of images that would probably be good candidates. See what other people here think.

Remember that if you do decide to become independent, each of the sites has their likes and dislikes. It helps if you can try to feed them what they prefer (as rejections always feel icky). Good luck

Will the description, key wording and title's affect the way they judge the images ?

The big problem of course is getting into SS. I believe it's much much harder than IS. Why the month wait for your next submission if you are failed? I don't get it.
Anyway, thanks for the tips and encouragement. Of course I will play it by the book but as IS is no longer working for me (to put it politely) I feel I have a portfolio wasted at one place.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I have just been accepted to revostock but all my uploads are currently pending. How fast are they in reviewing files ?

General Stock Discussion / Stock sites that take audio
« on: December 01, 2010, 05:25 »
Not strictly photo but as some are known to take audio I was wondering (apart from Pond5 ans Istock) if any other micro sites accept audio (SFX) as I have a huge portfolio ready to go.

Ok, so thats at least an option. Get the foot in the door and then close the other behind me. I know when you cancel exclusivity (with this site I am with owned by a very rich person) it takes something like 30 days to happen. Would I have to wait that long to be able to sell or can I sell as soon as I click "Unexclusive" ?

I am exclusive at the moment with another microstock site I am no longer happy with (You can probably guess which one) As it sounds like it's a hard task to get into SS, I don't want to give up my exclusivity and lose out if SS reject my images. I will have to wait a month (sounds unreasonable to me) before I can try again. If I get rejected I will have given up exclusivity for nothing.

It's a conundrum.

I'm exclusive and always had everything accepted, more so when I went exclusive. Now I hardly get an acceptance and it's not worth my time. I get frustratingly contradictory rejection reasons I just give up with them. I don't shoot for them anymore and am thinking of giving up my exclusivity.

This has been a terrible year at Istock. They mess up the website with a horrible new design (hyped up to the hilt before it went live) which decresed a lot of people's sales, they are making it nigh on impossible to get good images that are perfectly well lit approved, sales are poor for most at the moment and now this !!! It's absolutley dire.

I would rather Istock put their time and money into getting a decent website sorted out ;-)

I really am becoming  exasperated with Istock, even angry which isn't doing my creativity any good. They are turning down images that are good on the basis of lighting having shadows or being dull. I have tried it all ways. Flatter lighting to get rid of shadows and visa versa. They give you no clues as to what the rejection was for and like they used to do, give you the opportunity to re-submit. If you post on the critique forum you will get the chorus of agreement and backing for the great wisdom of the all knowing Istock admin from the usual crowd. It's a lose lose situation uless you take boring well lit studio shots. I thought Art was all about light and shade. :P

I have been exclusive for just over a year but now they have changed the site to a horrible new design, sales have nosedived (partly due to the confusing new design in my opinion)  and their rejection rate has got ridiculous I am thinking of giving up my exclusivity. They won't let you question anything that borders on criticism as they lock threads or worse, ban you for a period of time (this hasn't happened to me BTW). There is no incentive for me to be exclusive as a days shooting could be written off due to their vague reasons for "lighting" issues. They don't even give you a chance to put right what is supposed to be wrong.

A year ago when I went exclusive they accepted almost everything I submitted. My methods haven't changed. Other members are experiencing the same problems. The whole climate has become unfriendly and up itself.
