We are in the US and we pay about 30% for all taxes. That does not include health insurance , though, we pay for health insurance on top of that and healthcare here, in a word, is horrible. And our hospital is ranked in the top ten of the nation, so no idea how bad can it be in other places. Roads are in bad conditions, repairing and traffic jam at all times and all days. Schools? Forget about public schools, and sending your kids to private schools will take 30-50% more out of your income, depending on how many kids you have.
As they say, "Your mileage may vary". The state and city I live in and the job I have do not compare to what you've stated is true for you. My state and city have decent roads, good public education, low crime and superior healthcare options. Employer-based healthcare costs are low. If you can work the system and the stock market you can cut your taxes. So, it depends on many different factors.
No argument! In fact, I would love to trade in the Canadian winter one day.

Pixart has supplied numbers and sentiment for me as well. I would add that Stock is a part-time job for me. so my regular salaried income boosts the rate I pay.

I'm in Canada and we pay too much. On the other hand, we have great health care, highways, schools ....

Frankly, I regret poking fun at you, but it is a bit naive to think people would send you money because you ask for it and say you need it. As said, if you presented some kind of business plan or record of competence, perhaps some would invest in you. It's a tough business and many photographers are going through dire times, so there are many in the same boat with you.

While we are at it, I could use a funds to hire some top end models and rent some really great locations for shoots. This will increase my sales. PM me with contributions of $10,000 or more.

Looks to me like you might be a fit at Stocksy. You might consider applying there when the next call for artists takes place - likely in the fall.

Anyone looking to buy an agency! Received this today from Stockbo:
Hey everyone!
Hope you are having a great day today!
In keeping our promise to inform you all about any major developments in the business, today we have some news that we would like to share with you.
After a recent meeting between the directors of Stockbo, we have decided that we will offer the business for sale. The reason for this is due to a lack of time between all of us to take Stockbo to where it deserves to be. This was a difficult decision to make for all of us but we believe it is in the best interests for Stockbo moving forward, for the vision and for our beloved members and photographers.
We are currently in talks with some parties in Perth that may be interested in acquiring the business. Regardless of who acquires the business, we plan to ensure that the current terms and conditions that we have set out during this amazing journey will be upheld. Our number one priority has always been providing a platform focused towards fairness for our valued photographers, something that we hold dear to our hearts.
If any of you would be interested to take command of this business, please get in touch with us via email or simply send us a private message on our Facebook page.
We would like to express our gratitude for all of your efforts in making Stockbo what it is today. Without your fabulous contributions, Stockbo would just be a plain stock platform like many that exist today.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Best Regards!
The Stockbo Team
Eugene, Hung, Kevin, Ranjeev

Many applicants and a small, very thorough and dedicated staff of editors. There was a huge backlog and I'm sure they are still making there way through the applications.

Hmmm ... that is interesting. I am the executer or my mother's will, who inherited them from my father. Wonder if I could write my own letter.

Proving ownership would appear to be the biggest problem. I don't want to pay a lawyer to for this. Every time I have involved a lawyer in anything except real estate, costs somehow spiral up in tandem with Porsche lease prices.

Thanks for the advice. Sounding like it will be a lot more trouble than it is worth. Footage is from Canada and Cuba. I live in Canada. Since this came through my mother's will and technically would be jointly owned with my brother and sister, it seems like a big legal headache ... not likely worth the trouble. Model releases would be difficult or impossible. I am busy enough right now!

I have a bunch of archival 8mm film, some travel, some lifestyle from 1940 - 1960-ish. It is family movies, shot by my father long deceased, which I inherited. Is there a viable market for archival footage? I believe copyright has expired, but what about model releases? Thanks.

I use one light very often. Often I shoot it through a large white 2 stop diffuser/reflector and use white cards, black cards and sometimes mirrors to direct or subtract a little light.

I had a few photos there to see what would happen. One $5 sale and paid via Paypal. Now that is $5 Australian, less Paypal fees, so I think I go something like US$3.40 in the end.

I believe you are not listed in the directory until you make a sale which makes you an official co-op member.

I tried but the sales were to meagre for me to continue the effort. I'm happy others have had more success.

I'm thinking Leaf should take the Microstock Poll Results data and take a run at a PhD.
