Those are discounted prices to keep customers happy.

Wow, they have no self-respect. As long as they can get a buyer, they're willing to go rock bottom. They don't have any negotation skills.

1927
I don't get it. It used to be 6 for me, I think? Now it's 5 for a vector. Can anyone shed some light on what the prices were before? Can anyone post the newsletter they received?

If this is true, then to hell with them.

General Stock Discussion / License for t-shirt printing
« on: April 23, 2013, 08:01 »
What if a customer wants to print your image on a t-shirt and sell an unlimited number of shirts on his web shop; would an Extended License be sufficient?

Because the Shutterstock license says:
"Incorporated into merchandise for resale or distribution, without regard to the size of the manufacturing or duplication run of such merchandise "

...but also says that Print on Demand is prohibited, even with an Extended License.

Doesn't that contradict each other? Isn't POD (tshirt) not the same principle as "Incorporated into merchandise for resale or distribution">

http://cmsaccount.com/  Photo Video Selling Script, any good.

Yes, I just set up my shop with this script (lite version).

Works pretty good. Installation was simple, basic configuration was easy, the customization difficulty depends on your technical knowledge. Luckily, they have good customer support; just send them an email with any questions and they will give you either instructions or a fix. You can also try the forums, but there they're a little less responsive.

Selling Stock Direct / Sitemap creation
« on: April 17, 2013, 12:23 »
I was wondering about a sitemap for my webshop. Is it necessary to submit one to Google or other search engines? Would it help with getting indexed properly, and if so, what pages should I include or exclude?

I already have a simple sitemap for my normal website (illustration portfolio) but if I generate a new XML sitemap (for my webshop), it gets stuffed with all kinds of urls.

I found the error: the test was a micropayment of 0,06 and that was instantly deducted as fee. So the net amount was 0.

you should specify which webstore.. most people will think it's symbiostock..

If you are talking about cmsaccount, it should have worked out of the box.. you must have missed something with your set up..

I suggest that you contact cmsaccount support if you are having issues..

I'm using cmsaccount, but I think it's a Paypal thing. Everything worked, in terms of payment, it's just that the paypal transaction appears in the list as complete, but the balance does not update. So I was wondering if anyone ran into the same issue with Paypal payments?
Well, if the money is taking from your account to pay your account then the balance is zero, right?

No, not taken from my account, someone made a purchase with her own account to mine.
Check your paypal account history and check if the transaction is actually on your account. And check if the balance on the other account is actually less the  amount of the photo

Yes, the transaction is listed, as Completed. The balance is just 0. I have contacted Paypal, perhaps they've some delay or something.

Selling Stock Direct / Paypal balance not updated after sale
« on: April 15, 2013, 09:55 »
I did a test sale for my new webstore, and everything worked fine up until Paypal.

The payment is listed as being Completed, but my balance is still 0. I do have the option of returning the payment, but when will my balance be updated? Do I need to confirm something?

Selling Stock Direct / Re: US ITIN Number for selling direct
« on: April 14, 2013, 14:57 »
Here in the Netherlands (which I think has the same tax laws as it's a EU country), when I sell something directly to the US or a non-EU country, I have to charge 0% VAT and the only tax I need to pay, is Dutch income tax. No need to worry about an ITIN or paying taxes to the US.

Just a note: Your statement is partly wrong. If you are selling something to a private person (or any legal person that is not VAT registered as e.g. public institutions) in another EU country, you will have to charge their country's VAT. The 0% rule is only valid if you are selling to companies who are also VAT registered in their country. So if the base case was the same as the OP's and you would sell to a German university, you would have to charge them German VAT.

As I understood it from my tax specialist:

From the Netherlands to a non-VAT-registered customer in the EU: 21%
From the Netherlands to a VAT-registered customer in the EU: Reversed charge VAT
From the Netherlands to any customer outside the EU: 0%

So, while it's true you should charge VAT to non-VAT registered customers, you shouldn't charge your customer's country's VAT, but your own country's VAT, because the service took place in your own country.

I added a 21% VAT option for each EU country

It's 20% in UK and varies in other EU countries

Yes, but I have to charge Dutch VAT on my invoices, which is 21%.

Couldn't wait for the update, so I changed the code myself.

Instead of only 'All countries', 'USA' and 'Canada', I added a 21% VAT option for each EU country. Took me a while to figure out how to edit the MySQL dump file and the related php files. I'm no expert at php/databases, but somehow it works.  8)

Illustration - General / Re: how to 'frame' eps vector
« on: April 08, 2013, 17:44 »
What you refer is in illustrator right?

the artboard is recognised in illustrator, but usually if i open the eps in photoshop, it is always fit to the edge of vector instead of the artboard.

anyway, i figure out one of the solution is using a clipping mask? make the transparent as clipping mask instead of just plain border.

I select the box and made the artboard fit to the 'transparent' box, and delete the transparent frame.

I assume some eps buyer will just open the file like in photoshop, but it is always clipped to the edge of the vector instead of the edge of artboard.

Can't really figure out what is the solution..

When exporting to a JPEG, make sure to tick the option "Use artboards" in the lower left corner of the Export dialog. That way, it won't crop your image to the contents, but use the artboard as its borders, leaving the empty space intact.
If you have one artboard , your JPEG will get the suffix "01" added to the filename, i.e. yourimagetitle-01.jpg.

Yeah, I was referring to Illustrator.

But if you use Photoshop, why don't you use Canvas Size dialog (not Image Size) , and resize the canvas borders (width and height) to 105% or 110% (make sure you have white as your background color)? That way, you'll get some breathing space the easy way.

iStockPhoto.com / It's refund time again

Today I got 26 (!!!) refunds of images from the same series, downloaded on March 25th. Good job Istock, for yet another day of valiantly protecting my images against credit card fraud.  >:(

How immensely frustrating.

So, I bought CMSAccount's photostock script the other day, and I'm running into a little problem.

In the admin panel (Settings > Taxes) I can specify when to apply VAT on my automated invoices. It says:

- All countries
- USA
- Canada

But for tax purposes I need to be able to specify whether the customer is a business or an individual and if it's located within the European Union or outside of the European Union. The option 'Reversed charge' would be useful as well.

Is there anyone from Europe who uses this script, let me know how you handle this.

I think to make things less complicated you can turn taxes "off"

- you don't have to advertise that you are charging customers taxes..
- but set your prices high enough to compensate the tax % you are going to pay..

if you are paying %30 tax, then set your prices %30 higher..

I didn't notice any stock agencies mentioning taxes to buyers, why would you?

I think that feature exists more for "physical products"..

I'm afraid it's not that simple in my situation. Dutch tax laws require me to list VAT (if applicable) on a invoice, if it's an individual or a non-VAT-registered entity inside the EU. Or else I could get fined for sending out faulty invoices.

Stock agencies don't mention the VAT, but I think it's applied during checkout, for UK/EU customers.
It also applies to electronic products.

I'm going to check on the CMSAccount forums to see if they can help me. Thanks anyway!

this is what I found.. admin says "it will be implemented in a future version.."
http://www.cmsaccount.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1036&p=3559&hilit=tax#p3559

also, there is a good point made in that thread.. you probably can turn taxes "off" in the script and get "paypal" do what you want to do..

I think paypal provides the kind of service you are looking for.. in your paypal profile, check selling tools..

Oh great, thanks!

I registered on the forums, so once my account is activated, I'll join in. Well, I'll just have to wait then for the new version.
