GLStock / Re: Sudden rise of sales
« on: January 18, 2014, 18:50 »

They did mention last year that the new Google Images layout was taking away lots of traffic. So it's not your portfolio ;)

But you're right; easy uploading, good commissions...It's still a site that deserves our support, no matter the number of sales.

That's an interesting point of view  :D

Well okay, at least if sales are > 0 ;)

And once again they're leaving us in complete darkness for another whole weekend about how much they're going to claw back. Their laziness and complete lack of punctuality is crazy.
Don't we know, deep down, that the clawback is going to be almost exactly the extra we made, beyond what we had come to expect? In my case, almost exactly 50%.

Yes, but I don't know how much extra I made. I have an estimated guess, but I'd just like to know some exact numbers ASAP.

I have had three sales in January, it was unexpected

As I had no sales last year I asked them if there was some problem with my portfolio.
They promised me that from January 2014 things we go better.

If this site really sales it could become the best one: easy to upload, good commissions, etc

Let's see!

GLStock / Sudden rise of sales
« on: January 18, 2014, 09:13 »
I never had much sales on GLStock, but December and January have been surprisingly good for a low earner (especially considering their RPD). Has anyone else experienced a sudden rise in sales or am I just lucky?

Lo and behold, Istock manages to screw something up again.

All of a sudden, upload is broken.

And this message from Lobo is hilarious:
"We only provide FTP uploads for Video. We haven't ever provided FTP for the other file types. I have no idea why we haven't ever considered FTP for photo but I'm sure there is a good enough reason considering we haven't had the option thus far."

Every other microstock site has FTP, but iStock has a "good enough reason" not to use it  ::) (Failing IT department, perhaps.)

Istock uploading seems to be broken, it keeps on submitting over and over again (goes from 100% back to 0%, to 100% again, etc.).

(Might be a site issue, though.)

Edit: Okay, it IS a site issue, please ignore my post ;)

What happened to: "somewhere next week we'll send everyone an e-mail"?

I posted it on istock forum but it was deleted instantly. But here they can't do anything

After reading this article it's become clear that this is a fraud. They desperately looking how to reducing debt. And I don't want to pay for that.

https://www.moodys.com/research/Moodys-downgrades-Getty-to-B3-from-B2-Outlook-is-Stable--PR_285298

P.S I don't understand why they delete my post on istockpoto forum. Because it's not a secret information. Everybody can find it and read.

After all this I've decided to start delete my portfolio from istockphoto. I don't believe them any more.

I don't think it's fraud. They're just incompetent.

My blood is boiling. I can never trust iStock again (not that I ever did). If there's a big bunch of sales, it's credit card fraud and the money gets refunded. If the PP royalties for ONE SINGLE MONTH turn out to be rather good, it's an overpayment.

It's as if they don't want us to to make any decent money.

I dont feel its right for ss to charge us for a service which finally benefits them with better photographers and better stock photographs.  I believe it should be free and considered an investment in their workforce (which is us), ultimately their business is to sell our stock images not make money giving courses.

Bollocks. It's a service they offer. Either pay for it, or leave it. They don't owe you anything. Why should they give lessons away for free? These lessons are not necessarily an investment for them, since you can also use your newly acquired knowledge tp upload better photos to other agencies.

Lobo has banned me twice for simply making a -slighty cynical- remark about some kind of problem that popped up at iStock. I was never rude, nor was I out of line. If freedom of speech is considered important at a forum, then Lobo is a horrible moderator.

I understand that dealing with frustrated contributors (or customers) can be hard, but it's his job to always be polite, explanatory and professional. And he simply isn't.

I dont want to have my stuff surrounded by such a big amount of lousy work, embeded in even worse coded environment.
I like it much more to be in a agency with other good artists than to standout because the rest is crap.

So, in other words, you don't want to stand out from the crowd, and you'd rather have strong competitors stealing sales from you?

Since they don't mention the PP from November (December), I assume this probably means they paid us too much. I KNEW this was too good to be true! Unbelievable.

It's always, ALWAYS the same bogus retard problems at iStock.

Number of sales is slighty down, but the most alarming thing is the lower RPD compared to last month.

I've sent a support ticket. I want to know what's going on. I'll probably get a canned response.

I think October PP sales were a one-time special month only, and now it's back to the normal, low-RPD. I always considered October's PP sales completely out of range compared to 'normal' PP sales.

However, they should give an explanation as to what happened.

We are not talking about a few contributors.. everybody,  without exception,  had a good month.. and now everybody is having a bad month.. what's the deal here?

I'm not saying it was about a few contributors.

Yeah, what happened to the big sales?

1845
Bigstock sucks big time and my low earnings have been roughly the same as last year.

1846
Doesn't it give you the same results if you'd search for illustrative AND editorial? In my experience, a keyword phrase limits the possibilities of finding an image, since the phrase must be typed exactly as it is keyworded.

Kind of stupid they couldn't run the PP sales this weekend so we could cash out our money before the end of the year...

I think the OP was only meaning the blue bits, i.e. sales directly out of iStockphoto.

Exactly.

What about your iStock-only sales bar (the blue one)?

Is it just me or is anyone else having a back-to-back Worst Month in two years as well?
