It looks like your source recording frame rate is 23.976, so you would probably want to change the TV standard to NTSC and output frame rate to 23.976 as well.

Unless you were changing the original speed of the clip, you can leave time interpolation blank. Otherwise optical flow is fine.

CBR bitrate encoding just means that you are using a constant bit rate for each from of video, which isn't really necessary, depending on how fast your machine is, you'll achieve very similar quality with smaller file sizes if you change it VBR 2 pass.

For h.264 Shutterstock does ask for "best" encode quality, which would probably mean 300mbps, but unless you were recording RAW files with an Inspire 1, that is a higher original bit-rate than your source footage, so it's overkill and just going to lead larger file sizes. If this was a Phantom 3 or 4, you can set the target bit rate to 200mbps and that would be plenty high.

Square pixels and progressive field order are both correct.

Many thanks for your great and quick answer StockbyNumbers!

I'll apply your suggestions ASAP  :)

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / 4K settings in Premiere
« on: February 25, 2018, 15:20 »
Hello Guys!

I've recently started to make some 4K videos for stock.
I don't know nothing about video editing so I basically clip the videos, encode and submit.

My question here is: what are the optimal settings in Adobe Premiere?

Here's what I'm currently using... is this too much?
I ask this because after exporting these videos I can't even open them in my pc :)

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards

Same here... It's very strange because 123 used to be a very steady agency

Wow so many answers!

Thanks a lot guys :)

Hey guys!

I'm on Shutterstock since 2005 and have a 23k images portfolio.
However, about 40 - 50% of it consists of crappy images, entire photoshoots that don't sell.

Do you think my sales could improve by deleting these photos (which would raise the sales %) or this is just a myth?

Best regards

The only question here is the money.
The focus distance is not so good which makes me wonder if should I save some money and go for the Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART... :)

Fully agree. Mark I is soft, especially on the edges.

Mark II is a different beast. Much sharper. No more rejections for softness. And I get nice stars @ f/16, if that matters :)

Happy with the upgrade!

Thanks a lot my friend!

I have three lenses I use for stock, and the 24-70L (I) is one of them.  I've never had a problem with "noise" or anything.  You may want to send the lens and body into Canon for calibration.

Hello Sean and many thanks for your answer.
The problem here is that I've tested another lens and this lens on another body. The problem is from the lens itself...

Hi there  ;D

For the past 5 years I've been using 5Ds with the Canon EF 24-70 2.8 (I) to shoot stock, mainly in studio.
Here they work great but when I go to exterior it's a disaster... very noise and a lot of out of focus images.

Since the noise can be a problem from the camera, which it's a shame, specially considering that I shoot at 100 ou 200 ISO maximum, the out of focus is from the Canon EF 24-70 2.8 (I).
I've made a test with another Canon EF 24-70 2.8 (I) and the results were the same. I've tested both lenses on a 6D body and the results were... the same.

So I have to conclude that the Canon EF 24-70 2.8 (I) is a soft lens.
Do you agree?

The problem here is that I'm afraid to go outdoors with this lens, because I simply don't trust it.

So I have 2 options... to change to a Canon EF 24-70 2.8 (II) or... buy a 50mm 1.4 which apart from being a standard lens, is awesome on detail.

So my question to you is...

Is it worthy to try the 2nd version of the 24-70?

Many thanks in advance :D

Canon / Re: Anyone else not happy with the 5D MIII?
« on: December 23, 2015, 08:46 »
I totally agree with you.

At studio, the 5D MKIII is perfect.
Outdoors... very noisy and I have many dificulties in nailing the focus.
I have a 24-70 2.8 (1st version) which I'm thinking to sell and buy the 2nd version... because the 24.70 is a very soft lens.
And no, is not problem from my camera or this particular lens because I've tested another and then the 2 on a 6d body and the results were the same...  :(

Shutterstock.com / New photos = no sales
« on: March 24, 2015, 09:02 »
Hello guys,

Since 2005 when I started to upload to Shutterstock I've noticed that new photos always had a lot of sales, and those sales decreased along time.

For the last 6 months I've noticed that new photos have almost no sales at all...

Have you noticed the same thing?

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Excess of noise in 5DMKIII
« on: February 06, 2015, 17:30 »
Thanks for your answer guys.
I'll try to struggle a little in camera raw in order to reduce some noise and if not i'll send it to the factory just to check.

Cameras / Lenses / Excess of noise in 5DMKIII
« on: February 06, 2015, 13:52 »
Hey guys,

I've noticed that the majority of my photos taken in exterior have a lot of noise...

I have a 5d MKIII equipped with a 28-70 lens and I usually shot between 100 and 800 Iso with an aperture between 2.8 and F8... If out of focus is expectable especially at 2.8, the noise problem is not.

Do you guys share the same problem?
Many thanks and best regards

General Stock Discussion / Studio shots
« on: January 31, 2015, 07:47 »
Hello guys,

I have a big portfolio and almost all shots are made in studio with white background.
From my experience in stock photography, and even the fact my earnings are still going up after a few years, buyers are giving priority to the "whole package" i.e. the model into the environment and not "isolated over white background" and that's why i'm considering giving up on my studio. What do you think?
Can you share your experience with this?

best regards

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock sales is sinking deeply...
« on: January 31, 2015, 05:23 »
I have a different calculation, which is whether it lets me live as I choose.

100% on this one - not having some tit in a suit telling me....
Exactly. Plus I've just been to the Post Office and found $280 sitting in my box that I knew nothing about, and another $1,400 that I was expecting.  That's job satisfaction.

Exactly.
That's all about this. It's the best job of the world.
And no matter what happens, no matter how many photographers enter into this, no matter how many photos will enter daily you just have to keep pushing.
Back in 2008 when the sales decrease a LOT, eceryone talked about the end of microstock.

Since 2009 I've been always increasing my income... It's true that in 2008 I sold a bunch of 25s in Shutterstock and never reached that volume again.
But then you got ODs, singles etc... the market will always fit and I believe that if we continue to work, things will work for us

Hello guys!
Same for me here, since December SS is sinking.
I have a portfolio of almost 19k images and noticed a big decrease in the last 15days of December, surely because of the holiday season. The problem is that it didn't recover in January. This is worrying me a lot since stocks are my work and SS represents a bug % of my income :(

General Stock Discussion / Re: Finding your sold images
« on: December 29, 2014, 11:21 »
Thank you guys for all your help.
In the past I've used the "sitename + username" or something similar but wasn't very effective.

The google images drap & drop solution seems to be the best one since imageraider is paid, isn't it?

Many thanks once more.

General Stock Discussion / Finding your sold images
« on: December 28, 2014, 15:34 »
Hello guys!
I'm trying to find my sold images, its always fun to see your images being used.

In the past I've used tineye but recently changed to image search by google.
I login into an agency, make printscreen of one of my images and placed it on google...

Unfortunately sometimes the results aren't the best, so that's why I'm opening this topic:

How do you guys find your images?

Many thanks in advance.

Alamy.com / Keywords on Alamy
« on: December 25, 2014, 14:06 »
Hello Guys!
For the past 2 years I've uploaded my content into Alamy but never attatched the model releases or set the keywords...

So I had around 10k images waiting for this process... However when I login in the past days I've noticed that the great majority of these images where set as:

"On sale - add more details to improve sales" and all I had to do was seting the Attributes tab...

The others were, as expected in:

"Images not on sale - please keyword"

The strange here is that considering the same batch, some photos were On Sale and the others don't.

Do you know how this happen?
Many thanks in advance.

Best regards
