Adobe Stock / Stolen portfolio?
« on: March 08, 2020, 04:53 »
I don't know for sure (yet), but I randomly came across this portfolio:

https://stock.adobe.com/search?creator_id=207271937

and it seems quite suspicious. Extremely bad descriptions "very nice...", downright inaccurate descriptions, a "too good to be true" portfolio variety, and lots of 720p footage (even timelapses that the original owner would probably never upload as 720p).

So, find any of your footage there?

I haven't reported it, so feel free to do so if you can confirm it is indeed a stolen portfolio.

I'll start:

54.6% of the stock footage library over at Pond5 was added since the start of 2017. Pond5 opened in 2006.

That means it took about 11 years to add the first 6.8 million clips.

And a little more than two years to add almost 8.2 million clips.

---

This thread is for anyone who wants to post interesting statistics of facts that you have found either through search, reading annual reports, RELIABLE sources, or anything else that can hopefully be backed up. It can be anything from "there are 3 million duck clips at Shutterstock" to "the most successful frame rate choice at Adobe" etc.

This thread would focus on stock footage, but can be about any site, old or new, even shut down.

It would be nice if you could point to the source of the fact you choose, of course!

---

Source: Typing "itemgt:72827200" in the Pond5 search will give you roughly all clips posted since the beginning of 2017.

"$60,000 for our stolen photo: We made a copyright thief PAY!"

Well, this was pretty interesting.  :)

What a headache.

Off Topic / Annihilation on Netflix
« on: March 12, 2018, 13:14 »
I watched Annihilation on Netflix today, just released. The technical quality was quite bad, with overexposed skies and overall really bad dynamic range.

I watched the trailer (same browser), and it looked much better. Didn't have the same problems. What could have happened to the Netflix version? It's not a low budget film so I'm sure it doesn't really look like this.

Anyone with Netflix care to take a look? I'm just curious to see how this could happen.

By the way, other movies and TV shows look fine.

Software - General / Any After Effects experts here?
« on: September 05, 2017, 14:52 »
I'm doing more and more work in After Effects, and it amazes me how many new things and methods I can discover each week.

I've been working with adding realistic camera moves (dolly in/out, left, right etc.) to static footage, and I'm just curious if there are methods I haven't discovered. Sometimes it works really, really well (looks almost 100% real), but other times it's a struggle.

I know the standard camera mapping / camera projection way, but it's clumsy inside After Effects and takes quite a while to model (for me, I'm not that fast) in other software like Cinema 4D. As far as I can tell, you are limited to projecting onto flat planes in AE, which makes it hard to work with more advanced scenes.

The Displacement Map in AE works well sometimes but I would like to be able to do it in z space. I know FreeForm Pro lets you do that, and I will probably buy it, but are there other ways of displacing in z space within AE?

Simple corner pinning works sometimes too if the scene is flat with nothing sticking up, but making displacement maps are more fun.  8)

Has anyone ever experienced a $79 purchase? I didn't think so. And you're just assuming 100% of all buyers buy a membership?

Nope.

If a customer buys a clip without becoming a member, they pay $79, but you still only get $49 (-PayPal).

Nothing wrong with that, but now I know that they pocket the extra $30 if they don't get a new member. Their business model makes a little more sense.

General Stock Discussion / PayPal Currency Conversion Fees
« on: November 19, 2016, 14:10 »
PayPal's currency conversion fees are currently 2.5% for me, which adds up to substantial amounts over a year.

Has anyone found a better alternative? I am in the EU. I have been talking to my bank about opening a USD account so that the bank does the conversion (0.5% fee), which would save me lots of $$$, but I have read that PayPal won't send US dollars to other countries without converting to the local currency first. Even if the account is a dollar account.

As far as I can tell, Payoneer and Skrill are the only real alternatives, but they don't seem to offer anything better, or do they?

It would be great to find a currency exchange company that accepts PayPal USD and could convert for maybe a 1-1.5% fee.

Or are we stuck with the PayPal monopoly and incredibly high fees?

Anyone here have experience with PremiumBeat? They seem to be quite a popular site for buyers but it's hard to get a grasp on how much they actually sell, and if it's worth having a few exclusive tracks there.

Cameras / Lenses / The GH5 is here (well, soon)
« on: September 19, 2016, 06:54 »
The GH5 has been announced (out early next year) and it delivers pretty much everything people have asked for. Good bye competition.

10-bit 4:2:2 and 4k 60p among the highlights.

The latest episode of the great HBO show Silicon Valley opens up with a typical stock footage ad filled with clips from our favorite agencies :P - anyone see their clips in there?

VideoBlocks / No Marketplace Search in Chrome
« on: June 17, 2016, 04:10 »
When I search for clips in Chrome, no marketplace items come up and there is no option to display them. It looks entirely different on Safari - both logged out. In Safari I get the option to hide membership clips.

Surely this can't be good for non-membership items.

How does it look for you?

Pond5 / It finally happened!
« on: June 15, 2016, 05:33 »
They finally managed to complete the near impossible task of changing the Format name for music to "Music" instead of "4K+" in the Artist Resources section.

It must have been incredibly difficult involving a team of talented engineers since it took about 6 months.

Now we can relax.

However, they managed to magically remove artist names in the Best This Week/Month sections so it's now much harder to find your own stuff or check out promising artists.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia search not returning my images
« on: April 19, 2016, 09:40 »
When I try different combinations of keywords to find my images, about half the time, they are not found. Despite all of those keywords being present in the description and/or keyword section.

Some combinations work, others don't so it's definitely in the system, but can't be found with some combinations.

I find this very strange. Have you experienced anything like this?
