Envato / Re: Envato Getting Rid of Contributor Bonus
« on: June 10, 2022, 08:19 »
They said 10 to 15%... the actual bonus has been an average of about 14% for the last three months, so while it's been closer to the 15% rather than the 10%, it has been within the range they stated.

Adobe Stock / Re: Very Angry After Adobe Stock
« on: May 23, 2022, 23:43 »
Contributors never learn. I personally would rather not sell anything than sell below the "normal" price. I value myself, I value my work, I value my knowledge. I will never sell video for a dollar.

You're right... contributors never learn. They mistakenly think that selling video for a dollar or less equates to not valuing themselves, their work or their knowledge. An extreme example, but Coca Cola sell drinks for a dollar or less and they seem to be doing quite well for themselves.

The important thing to remember is that the agencies are all out to make as much money as possible, so if they alter the way they, sell or the amount they charge, or the options they make available to customers... but the money is still split in the same way between us and them... then it's possible that (all things being equal) you're going to make as much money as possible as well. If the changes result in the money being split in a different way where we get a lower percentage than them... well yeah, that's a different barrel of otters altogether.

With a playing field that is changing from month to month as a result of new agencies, closing agencies, changes to royalties and changes to prices etc... how much money you have in the bank at the end of the month is the only true constant that I feel we should be focussing on. Sure, a drop in percentages or prices is bad, but it's hardly on Amnesty International's radar. It still amazes me how many people seem to be itching for any possible reason to earn less money than they are currently. You can barely go a day in here without somebody saying something like I used to earn $100 at this agency which I was happy with, and now I'm earning $75 which I'm not happy with, so I've decided to pull my portfolio as I'd be much happier earning $0. It's the textbook definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If I'd ditch my portfolio with every agency that did something I didn't like, then I'd be earning virtually zero dollars a month by now. Instead, I'm earning more than I ever have, even from subscription sites, two of which are my highest earners.

Sure... pride in your work, pride in your skills and knowledge and experience, not taking it lying down etc etc. That's wonderful, but this isn't government oppression. It's not human rights abuses. It's not anything that will ever get even a footnote in a history book. It's a business, an industry, one that's relatively new comparatively (especially if we just consider online stock), and as such is changing regularly. Taking photos and making videos may be an artform, but selling stock is a business and we should all be doing whatever we can to earn as much as possible for as long as possible.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Equipment you use
« on: May 09, 2022, 00:26 »
BMPCC 4K (Just with a Lumix-G 14 to 100mm at the moment, but I'm ordering a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Contemporary)
Sony FDR-AX700 Camcorder
Panasonic FZ-2500 Bridge Camera
GoPro 7
DJI Osmo
DJI Mavic Air
Zeapon Slider with Pan and Tilt Head
Feiyu AK4000 Gimbal
Atomos Ninja 5 External Monitor
Nucleus-N Remote Follow Focus
Deity Video Mic and Rode Wireless Go
A bunch of RGB LED lights, tripods, stands, rails, cages etc.

Probably going to sell a bunch of those as I have far too much gear. The BMPCC and the Zeapon setup are pretty new... planning to do some more 'live action' shooting, mostly studio stuff, food etc. The majority of my content is still animated space stuff though, so my post setup is...

MSI G66 Raider - i9 8c 11th gen - 64Gb RAM - 2TB M.2 SSD - RTX 3080 with 16 Gb VRAM.
Macbook Air M1 with 16Gb RAM and 512Gb SSD
Asus ProArt 27" HDR 4K Monitor
X-Rite Color Checker
DaVinci Resolve Editors Keyboard
DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel
Loupedeck CT
Software includes... Davinci Studio, Blender, Houdini, After Effects, World Creator, Embergen and Nodes 3.

Google says 7200 JPY is $55.

I normally find April and October to be the best. Worst would be July/August and December/January.

How does your success with an agency, or the number of sales you get in a 3 year period, relate to whether they pay 40% or not? If they don't pay 40% then that's fair enough (exchange rate withstanding), but the number of sales you get doesn't dispute that.

I'd go for the DSLR. The majority of sales are still in HD, so if I had to choose then I'd rather have higher quality content of the type that I'm going to sell most of, rather than not quite as good quality on all of them... if that makes sense?!

Well that's the same for every agency, subscription or not.

None of the ships are going down. Individual contributors who decided to get in the lifeboats may be sinking, but the ships are doing just fine.

I honestly can't see you making more money by going exclusive anywhere. It may have worked out for some, but I don't think a 50% increase in royalties can be offset by a 4/5/6 times drop in the number of agencies you submit to. If you want to simplify the process then I'd consider submitting to BlackBox. While it's not something I'd normally recommend for a number of reasons, if your goal is to make things simpler then that could be the way to go. 15% loss in your royalties, but just one upload required, and they do hit Level 5 on Shutterstock in the first week of the year... which is nice.

Fine with this as well... 60% of my income comes from sites that only offer unlimited subscriptions. Take Storyblocks for example... my best year with them prior to them going back to 100% subscription was $2500, and last year I made $8500 with them. Probably helped by all the contributors leaving as they assumed their earnings would be decimated... so thanks for that!

People that use the word 'snowflake', are usually the biggest snowflakes of all. They're also the most likely to tell people to 'look things up' and to 'think for themselves', when the majority of their talking points have been thought for them. If you'd be so kind as to use the words awake, msm, elites, woke and sheep in your reply... then that'll be house on my conspiracy/anti-science/right wing bingo card.

Don't forget, there are very talented people in Russia, and if they are squeezed into a corner, they are capable of miracles.

You spelled Ukraine wrong.

Adobe Stock / Re: This year CC Bonus codes program?
« on: March 07, 2022, 02:55 »
I don't recall seeing an announcement on it, and there doesn't seem to be anything on the Adobe help pages, but I'd be surprised if they're not doing it again (in some form or another) for 2022... hopefully Matt can clarify.

167
Which specific sanctions are they breaking?

Obviously none of the current sanctions.

How about doing the right thing?

Well sure, but doing the right thing or not, is slightly different than breaking sanctions that don't currently exist.

Perhaps the survey results are not entirely accurate because too few contributors are participating. And because no one can say for sure whether all contributors enter correct numbers there.

But: In the past shutterstock was always on position 1. Now AS is on position 1. I assume that at least this position swap is correct and realistic.

I don't think it is. I have no way to confirm it either way as nobody knows exactly how the poll is calculated and I'm pretty sure Adboe don't publish just their Adobe Stock financials... but it's just as likely that the drop to second for SS is from MicrostockGroup members deleting their accounts or no longer submitting to SS after the changes. And while the changes they made would result in less income, on average, for the average author (so dropping down the ranks somewhat would be likely)... the initial discussion that I disagreed with all about SS now being a sinking ship that's on its way out. I'm going to go with their financial reporting on that (which indicates quite the opposite), rather than the poll.

Looks like a side profile of a man's hair, back of the head to the left and the gap for the face to the right. Sideburns in the middle at the bottom, hole for the ear just to the left of that, receding hairline top right and I guess the fuzzy bit in the middle is some kind of reflection.

You are the one that is delusional. The same thing happened to Getty/Istock they were the absolute leaders in selling stock when SS was just I tiny blob in the radar. They have fallen to 3 position...

Please tell me you're not basing the financial performance of stock companies on a monthly poll, on a forum (that while containing about 50,000 members, probably less than 10% are active) that some people fill in, some people never fill in and some people fill in intermittently?
