Portfolio size does not necessarily seem to matter... 30k/40k files does not necessarily 'guarantee' one a top spot, especially if say it is 30k pictures of bananas :P

One thing I've noticed is it seems some very (relatively speaking) "small" portfolios for whatever reason - have a few 'best sellers' that take off like wildfire... Lol obviously if I knew what the 'magic formula' was- I just focus on producing those bestsellers :)

And then I suppose there are some that are difficult to recreate... yes, "ai" (its not real "ai", its basically copying and blending) - is getting better at stealing content & rehashing/blending it... but - definitely not "perfect"... There was one video (I think someone posted here, or maybe I saw it while looking at other things) - where I guess a woman was saying she made $8k from a single image... She shared it - and it was a very good picture of a baby under a white blanket... just happened to have the right expression, right lighting, etc and resonated with a lot of people... Now the "ai" could try and steal that - but it wouldn't be the same...

And then also - I think in some ways images sell in "different" ways... I.e., if people see that baby image, they want "that" image for their campaigns, etc... so that probably also helps propel some sales too...

Top 100 weekly, top 100 lifetime, less than 10k.

Less than 10k/day? Hmm wow! :)

I learned early on that if anyone is serious about making a career from this business, they should follow one simple rule. Do not divulge or give away details of what works for you including images that sell well. You have to treat it as a business and businesses do not provide, "Secrets of their success" to help their competitors take money from them. It sounds harsh but ultimately it will serve you well. Sorry if this sounds nasty but it's hard enough in this line of work without shooting yourself in the foot.

That said, I do enjoy teaching so when I retire, I would like to teach one or two people about how I did things. Not so much for money etc, just because I like the idea of passing something on.

Well... you could be the first! You mean, you aren't one of those guys selling a "How I make five BILLION dollars a day on autopilot in my underwear, while only working 30 seconds sipping a cappucino - and 29 of those seconds are getting caffeinated - and these secrets can be YOURS - for only $29.95!!!" type of people???

Mmm. I do agree - so was in generic terms if you had certain tips, but if not - that is okay too.

So... next question. When do you retire? :D

Not a million miles away. 20k images and sales are distributed across my port not just a handful of top sellers. Ive been doing this type of work since 2010 probably 2013/14 with Adobe / Fotolia. No AI in port.

Pretty good! :) Tips/strategies/recommendations on how to create a better selling/balanced portfolio?

Part of the reason it seems to be "encouraged" - is it appears to be part of the blackrock/vanguard "strategy" to get people to "demand" a "digitalID". (I.e., id2020.org).
If they "let" people steal (usually east indians/different culture, considered "good business" if you can steal someone's stuff and get away with it) - then people "demand" to be "protected", and "voila", "digitalID" (and the digital ID is actually really really bad, because it is a control mechanism designed to take away people's income if they "disagree" or say something against a "govt" entity, i.e., what happened last 4 years).

That's the 'bigger picture' view.

And I also do agree since the agencies seem to just 'keep the income' if it is reported - it is a 'bonus' for them.

So in terms of what should be done...

a) Keep getting those accounts that steal shut down.
b) Get pressure on the agencies to give the income to those whom it was taken away from.

I'd say what this guy is doing is very good, making a public database of stolen accounts.

I am trying!! But I rarely upload more than 20 files a day. Maybe it will get better with midjourney, we will see.

Also started again with regular photos/videos.

I must diversify and also send content to other agencies. You never know what happens, perhaps ai will die next year if so many people are pushing content in.

Especially editorial should keep its value or might even go up in value.

Firefly is better in my opinion,Midjourney is better for some things, but the way it works with Discord is too annoying, not only do you have to use stealth mode, but then you would have to operate in a private server, with which you only have the Midjourney BOT,and you have to adjust the settings so that no one can access your server, and then all this is not enough, you also have to unpublish the images in the Midjourney feed, not just in Discord.

so while you do all this your images will still be seen by other users in the Midjourney feed not in the Discord feed.

before I started operating in this way,I discovered that someone was copying all my prompts,in Discord there are people who do just this, they follow the feeds and copy and paste the prompts...very annoying!

Could you please clarify? As far as I know - all images are stealth... what "midjourney" feed are you referring to?

Thanks!

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 sales picking up in March 2024
« on: March 23, 2024, 08:18 »
P5 sales for some reason dropped like a stone several months ago. "Slight" improvement over the massive drop, but not yet where they should be historically.

33
pos 2940

probably not bad for a 4200 file port, but I was hoping for much better spring sales.

need many more files. now upped my midjourney contract to 60 dollars to enable stealth mode. and hopefully that will push me to do more with midjourney to get better at using it. i still don't feel really comfortable but it does make much better people than stable.

also trying to do more with firefly.

now have prompting costs around 100 dollars a month. but longterm it should be worth it.

Just triple your content and you'll get near 1,000th.  Not bad for 4,000 images.

Not really. Tripled/quadrupled/etc content does not necessarily correlate with increased sales. I.e., if you had 5,000 pictures of bananas, and went to 15,000 pictures of bananas, you probably wouldn't see an increase in sales, of course, unless, people went bananas for bananas...

34
Finally I cracked above 1,000th because of yesterday's hot sales.  Also it's already the BWE for photo downloads this week.  Nice!!

Good job! How many times has your best AI photo sold? And are you seeing the majority of new sales from AI, or your previous/real life photography photos?

35
Thanks! Took a look @ one of the vids, interesting.

36
Simple (says it on the Adobe website as well).

If it looks like a camera could have taken a picture, then it's a photo.

If it looks handdrawn, and/or an unnature photo composite, then it is an illustration.

If you try uploading photos as illustrations, they will most likely be auto rejected.

37
Just like a lot of the stuff, I think it's hit or miss. "Sometimes" you get lucky, and sell a few hundred or more, or "sometimes" you don't.

I have a small set of .png files, (I think maybe 50 or so), and in total (out of the entire set) have maybe sold 5 or 6 so far...

So... lol, if you sell a lot - sure, it's worth it. If you don't, it's not...

38
From iStock? About $0, but I don't have an account there, so that could be it ;)

39
The other thing is - I actually do have very expensive high end systems - and if you do a lot of 4K video processing - you need to replace the thermal coolant in your system from time to time, which "can" be relatively expensive depending on the system you have.

40
Pond5 you can sell at 4k prices
This probably only applies to exclusive authors. On Pond5 they buy 4k videos very often at very low prices. There are also subscriptions and discounts for buyers from different countries. Prices are lower for poor countries.

As for 4K processing, the technology is the same as for HD.

Re: 4k processing - I'm talking about things like post processing, artifact removal/etc... It's much more "expensive" to do that on your computer, than simply working with HD footage, in both terms of CPU resources, & time involved... processing HD videos is a LOT faster...

But...  I guess not really any point in uploading new video footage there anyways...

Before - (i.e., 2-3 years ago) - you could get $70 for a clip... for HD/4k... Now... (as a bare minimum it seems) it's about $3, and 'maybe' a little higher if separate/individual packs were purchased... Revenue from clip sales has not gone up 20x to compensate for the difference...

41
::) ::) ::)
I don't know of any stock site where you can sell 4K only at the price of 4K.
 ;D ;D ;D

Pond5 you can sell at 4k prices vs HD prices... so adobe's "move" significantly devalues sales on other agencies, so may as well remove 4K footage, and also not upload 4K footage there (so it doesn't affect sales on other agencies).

Thing is - 4K footage also requires (generally speaking) extra processing, especially if you do any post processing. If there is no additional benefit to the contributor for doing all that extra work to make great 4K footage, no point in sending it their way...

42
I know people mentioned the price change @ adobe for 4k video becoming "subscriptions" - adobe making the assets cheap...
Didn't realize they were making the 4k assets "exactly" the same price as the HD assets, thus significantly devaluing contributors works...
https://blog.adobe.com/en/publish/2024/01/24/adobe-stock-now-offers-4kvideo-hd-prices-every-subscription

I guess from now on, will only upload HD video to adobe, because no point in giving them the 4K version...

Wow...

Bonus I guess is it will save me on bandwidth, plus can downsize vids too...

I disagree with the personal service aspect, when you consider the massive revenue they generate. Of COURSE they can offer it, but they may choose not to because "investors" want more $$$ in their pockets.
You really want Adobe to hire 2000 people just to deal with all the complaints "why was my file declined"??
It will be by far the most abused system ever.

I'd rather they put that money into the sales team.

You can post your problems in the community chat and get quick and qualified feedback. And you can write to Mat if you believe it is very serious.

Adobe is a lo more responsive than other places.

I don't get why people expect the luxury treatment on a mass platform.

Sign up with a small exclusive agency and you will get all the direct communication you ever wanted.

There are always choices.

Didn't say you 'had' to - although that might be a good idea. Just saying it was possible, and they chose not to. Big difference.

However - it would be more helpful to (experienced) photographers/producers/etc if it said something like "too much pixelation" (and it actually WAS pixelation, not just randomly picking something out of laziness) - as opposed to "quality issues".

44
How much do they pay for .psd files? If it is the same huge whopping $0.33, probably not... Quickly looking - that does appear to be the case.

Try it out if you wish - but I suspect no, you won't really see a huge return.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Capcut?
« on: March 12, 2024, 19:28 »
I seem to remember reading in one of the "license agreements" of one of the agencies, that was one of their "partners"... I think it might have actually been shutterstock... So if you see it on 'capcut', that may be where it is coming from...

I appreciate your honesty with your experiences and agree there is an industry wide slowdown - probably not surprising with global inflation and economies slowing etc. I've had a brief look at the thread you posted on Pond5 and will have a better read later.

For clarity... it's actually massive theft of wealth through massive money printing under the guise of "saveukraine"/"convidpayments", etc... money printing (aka "inflation") is a way of "taxing" ppl without them reallly knowing it... if they make things 2x as expensive as before, they've essentially "stolen" 50% of people's wealth via money printing...

Sure it is. It was always in history. Wealth inequality can only arise through robbery,  theft and exploitation. Today's financial system is completely decoupled from a productivity-influenced economy and has become nothing more than a financial casino.

Most people don't "get" that.

What "does" have value is "assets" though.

That is why "they" are purchasing land, massive amounts of it.

But your "digital assets" also have value. It's up to you to decide what nominal value you assign to it.

If you go with the "unlimited" model, it's just the "cost of doing business" that yes, there will be thieves ("usually" east indians, not always) - with the "business model" of rip off as much stuff as you can and slap their name on it as quickly as possible... if they get "caught", feign innocence to try and get the account active again, and if not - simply use one of 15-20 "family" members "i.d." (including "cats" & "dogs") to open a brand new account and do exactly the same thing all over again, or "hire" someone to use their "i.d." to do exactly the same thing all over again... the "get rick quick east indian" model... (again, not "just" used by them, but a lot of them do and actively promote that in youtube, etc videos as "get rich quick" strategies...)

(which, in itself is part of the "strategy" employed by the same pyschopaths in order to promote a "digitalID" (id2020) for your "safety & protection", which has absolutely nothing to do with safety nor protection, but simple controlling finances)...

It is unclear what kind of content needs to be filmed in order for the author to be accepted into Artlist as a contributor.
For example, with Storyblocks everything is clear, you need to shoot models of different skin colors. And you need many different models.

Hehe, with the "d.i.e." agenda ("diversity, inclusion, equity"). Funny how people don't see that. ("They" sometimes mix the letters up, as "d.e.i.", or "e.d.i", but I suppose figure if they said "d.i.e." it might be too obvious).
Or the "ipsos mori" polls, major marketing firm that promoted the crap out of of convid (designed to promote division, while simultaneously manipulating people into injecting "actual" poison into their arms), and "ipsos mori" = latin for "they die".
Or "BIPOC"... "black indigenous and people of color" - openly "racist" against "white" people, lol in the name of "stopping "hate"" (which, in itself is a very "hateful" statement)...
Or the "body positivity" nonsense - aka, "fat, obese lazy" content promotion with a marketing spin to be "stuff your face with all the deliberately toxic canola oil products derived from rapeseed oil that you can, its BODY POSITIVITY!"...

Ugh, so sickly messed up, and in a way - so funny in a way too...

Of course, all one needs to do is see the money that is being dangled in front of various people to promote the agendas... Nothing to do with "social justice", but instead - to do with a small group of psychopaths actively "trying" to cause division using blackrock/vanguard as their front companies to 'purchase' companies and promote their sick agenda...
