BlackBox is for creators who love to shoot and earn but don't want to do all the boring admin stuff.

It's a great way to send your curated video clips to multiple agencies with one click, it manages your rights -- yours and your team's, if you work with a team -- and it automatically distributes the revenue coming back.

It's new. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

What agencies do your service support exactly? How can YOU pay each team member's share?

It is just me or first post + their website is a bunch of slogans, cheap marketing frases and zero concretes?
what? What are you doing? Really? Please be more transparent with your services! *.

I decided to actually check out the site based on your post, and couldn't agree more! The video itself is such a cliche... designed to stir emotion, identify some need I never knew I had, and make me think how wonderful I am, how wonderful this company is, and how I desperately need their service... without hardly telling me anything about what that service actually is!

The script writer should be rewarded, as it's the kind of fluffy, empowering nonsense that a lot of people actually buy into (did they used to work for the Apple marketing department?)... but as it (I'm assuming) relates to our business and our bottom line, we need a bit more to go on!

Hi everyone, I'm Josh from BlackBox.

First: thanks for your feedback!

The website and messaging is a work-in-progress. We've been focusing 99% of our efforts getting the platform ready and robust for users.

Marketing and better customer-facing stuff is coming and I promise we're working really hard to make sure it makes sense and doesn't sounds so "fluffy".

To answer a few questions asked so far: we send your stock footage to Shutterstock, Pond5, VideoBlocks and a few more, with expansion to even *more* with every passing month.
We help you and any collaborators you worked with (think the sound guy/girl or editor) ensure that they also get paid more than just one time for your footage. We're interested in the long-tail side of things, and pushing back against the gig economy that's hurting the industry a lot right now (we feel it and we know lots of other people do too).
The rights management lets you split ownership of the content in a percentile measurement that makes it easier to ask for help from friends and colleagues without worrying about buyouts or convincing a someone to just do a favor.

The script writer is our founder, Pat McGowan (he's worked in the industry for years and runs a successful video production agency). He's really passionate about ensuring that content creators keep the rights to their stuff, and stop getting pushed around by big production houses and clients.

If you'd like to hear from Pat (put a voice to a name), we just did a podcast episode with StudioSherpas and they were pretty stoked about BlackBox and what we had to offer. Please feel free to reach out to us on Twitter @blackboxglobal if you have any questions.

Also you can sign up and give us a shot and try it for yourself. It's *FREE* (as much emphasis on that as possible) and remember: you keep the rights, so no worries on that front.

If you read this whole reply: thanks for taking the time and have a great day!

AYA

Hi Josh,
I would be interested to understand your services better. I've found that there is a lack of clarity about certains aspects of your services:
-Pricing (you say *free* but I am sure you are not doing this out of the goodness of your heart.  Are you offerring a free trial? Do you take a percentage? if so WHAT percentage?
-Services: give us more details about what you do: KW? model releases? do you upload to your portfolio? to ours?do you take all content, how does the reviewing process works?
-Paiement: how do you pay contributors? timeframe, mode, minimal payout...

You site is pretty vague right now and in this forum you are not talking to students or newbies so more details will avoid the "Prince of Nigeria" scepticism you saw in the thread.

hope it helps,

Julie from Montreal

+1.

Even though the script is a bunch of "set yourself free" nonsense that could be applied to any web 2.0 service, I must say the animation was smooth and well done.

But I would like to see more specific info on pricing, features, etc. on their website.

Hey there, I'm Pat and I'm the founder of newbielink:http://www.blackbox.global [nonactive]. It's great to hear some of your feedback , so thanks!! :)

I'm a creator just like many of you and I built BlackBox for creators. I am the writer and producer of the explainer video. I'm sure you'll agree that these types of videos are hard to do but we really just wanted to put the concept out there. Not trying to "pitch" or twist anyones arm. That script reflects what I believe is happening to us as creators and proposes an alternative.

Admittedly our site could do more to fill in the blanks. We're working on improving!

Here are some basic details about BlackBox.

BlackBox 1.0 has two simple functionalities; 1) an "upload once, send to many" service for stock footage creators, 2) a "fractional ownership of IP" capability that allows creators to collaborate and co-own stock footage content, 3) a payment system that processes the fractional shares of revenue in accordance with ownership.

Membership is free, our fees are 15% of the NET sales (back end) from any of the stock footage sites we do business with. We provide templates for CSVs and Model Releases.

Payment is by PayPal on the 20th of each month for revenue accrued during the previous month.

Creators do NOT give up title to their content in any way. We are NOT aggregators of content. We really offer a comprehensive set of business tools for creators.

We are up and running and we are growing.

I can only ask you to take a look at what we are doing. We invite you to check out a recent Studio Sherpas podcast, if you like what you hear please join us. The first 25 minutes are backgrounder, we get into the BlackBox discussion at the 27:45 mark. newbielink:https://studiosherpas.mykajabi.com/blog/passive-income-for-video-producers-w-pat-mcgowan-of-blackbox [nonactive]

You can email me at newbielink:mailto:[email protected] [nonactive] or message me on FB newbielink:https://www.facebook.com/pat.mcgowan.967 [nonactive]

Thanks!!

Pat
