Hi all!

I'm considering jumping on the ktools bandwagon and am wondering who to host them with.  I was thinking of using Bluehost but noticed a few more recommendations by Ktools and wondered if having Ktools host it themselves is the better option.

If you don't mind sharing, could you possibly tell me who you use and if there are any known issues with them?

And while I've got you, do you know of any restrictions in uploading PNG files?  I couldn't find a list of acceptable file types on their website.

If you're talking about the host allowing PNG files, you'll have no problem. I'm not sure about ktools support for PNG though as I don't use it.

I haven't had any problems with their hosting. I'm sure Bluehost would probably work fine too. As far as pngs, you can upload zip files, so I assume you can put whatever you want in there (tiff, png, eps).

For my site I didn`t use KTools since I think it is too limited. But the requierements regarding the PHP ini and other server settings are quiet the same for any script like that.

I set up my own Server since it gives the most freedom. At the moment I use EUKHost.com and I am very statisfied with them. Please not that their Shared Hosting packages are not usable for something like KTools....just talking about Servers!

^^ +1

I host all of my client websites at HostGator and have to say that their up-time is fantastic and so is their customer service.

They are on the not recommended list:

I actually considered hostgater till I saw that they were blacklisted.

Michael, do you mind sharing what way ktools is limited?

hostgator doesn't allow photo sites in their tos (although you can to some extent) I dont use ktools but had issues trying to use a coppermine and another gallery on hostgator, their php settings are not photo friendly (nowhere near what ktools needs) and if the building of thumbnails hits the server hard they will end the process and lock you out. However they did ring and say what was happening and they were always very good to deal with, specifically got told by support not to run ktools on their hosting plan. (ironically coppermine is a oneclick install with their hosting :))

I tried pacifichost (as they said ktools was no problem) and I had a heap of problems, my sites weren't accessable for a few hours each day (and neither was email), lots of problems especially dns stuff and support just kept saying everything was fine.

I now use bluehost on their basic plan, I never got around to ktools but I have 12 domains one of which has a private coppermine gallery with about 30gb's of photos in it that I give people limited access to (ie here's the link and password to get photos of you etc) I asked when signing up whether 80+ gb would be a problem and they said it is fine. There seems to be limitation of 10000 pixels long edge for a photo, but not sure if this software or host or what (not a big deal for me). I have also found them extremely good to deal with and their support incredibly good.

Thanks Phil,

I like bluehost and I wouldn't mind hearing from someone who actually uses it to host ktools.

I am using Bluehost with no problems whatsoever.  Very smooth.  Ktools was able to install the program on Bluehost for me, which was convenient.  I am very happy with Bluehost.

I built my Agency site from the start to accept non-microstock material (it is NOT thought as a microstock site) which includes e.g. artistic nude, pinup and fetish photography. Therefore I had to build a suitable infrastructure like credit card processors and hosters which allow this kind of material. Beyond that there had been million of details which are missing in Ktools. KTools is designed for using standard settings and tools like paypal. Hope this helps....

Michael, yes, that helps a lot.  Appreciate the feedback!

Lisa and cclapper, that's great... exactly what I wanted to hear.  Lisa if bluehost can handle your massive port it shouldn't have a problem handling my piddly one :)

Thanks everyone, issue solved :D
