If it is true that there are more than a million contributors on Shutterstock, only a few thousand of them have disabled their portfolios, most have stopped uploading, and a small portion continue to upload, then disabling the portfolio or suspending the upload is all about self-respect and common sense.

I have referred over 2000 contributors to Shutterstock. Out of these 2000, 90% of them have 0 image.

And out of this 10%, only about 2% have over 100 images.

And probably only a few of them among these 2000 contributors have over 1000 images.

So in conclusion, there's only about 1% of serious contributor out of this 1 million contributors. That work out to be only 10000 contributors that are really serious. Of course, there's still many thousands who are not serious that continue to upload.

Shutterstock usually have about 2million new images per week, now it has gone down to 800k. That's a major impact actually. That means more than 50% of contributor are revolting in one way or another.

You must also understand that with the scarcity of new good images, SS is now accepting lousy images to fulfill their "quota". And even with that, they only manage to get 800k approved.

SS accepting lousy images has been going on for years, with many threads here about it, not a recent phenom

Over 15 years they accumulated 1.2 million contributor accounts and 1.9 million buyer accounts.

But the majority will be dead accounts on both sides. How many times a year do you sign up for a website somewhere and then never go back again?

All these platforms originally started as exchange for designers who shared their work with each other to save expenses.

The actual number of producers and buyers is much smaller.

Every year there will of course be new amateurs by the thousands trying to upload  their holiday images, but many give up when they see how much work it is.

This is a very small industry.

If the uploads have dropped by 50% and a lot of people closed good quality ports, that is a pretty amazing result.

But they are now taking 30 similar images of an out of focus mushroom in the grass. It was never like that. They must be desperate to keep the numbers up.
