Was looking at the new SS blog, and saw they are integrating with DropBox:
http://www.shutterstock.com/blog/2013/07/announcing-shutterstocks-dropbox-integration?pl=news-welctoournewblog&cr=PB
"Soon, youll be able to download images and footage directly from the Shutterstock site to your Dropbox account. Our Dropbox integration will give you a frictionless way to store creative assets, sync them across all your devices, and effortlessly collaborate with colleagues on creative projects."

Isn't that a direct conflict with the licensing terms?

Oh, I'm sure they did, but it seemed like they themselves are encouraging licensing violations.

They do seem to be rapidly heading in the direction another agency has taken.

Are you sure its a violation, you left that part in bold conveniently out of your quote ?!?

THIS IS A SINGLE SEAT LICENSE. IT AUTHORIZES ONE NATURAL PERSON TO LICENSE, DOWNLOAD AND USE IMAGES. Your Shutterstock username and password are to be used only by you. Each person that desires to access the Shutterstock Websites must have his/her own username and password. We reserve the right to monitor accounts and institute means to stop users from sharing their login information. Customized products for multiple users are available from Shutterstock. Please contact Shutterstock Support for details or see Shutterstock's Multi-Share product.

I didn't leave it out conveniently.  I didn't think it applied.  The blog sounds like it's just aimed at the average everyday buyer, and this will be a feature available to everyone.  Not a special custom "multi-user" deal.

I don't really care, I just thought it was interesting.

I think Ron is saying that Shutterstock's terms already allow users to share images like in the dropbox scheme, so it's not a violation as long as the dropbox deal is called a customized product.

I just saw 'team subscriptions' for the first time, have they been mentioned here before?  They cost a lot more than regular subscriptions but do you get the regular subscription royalty for them?

I don't think so.  If the dropbox thing is available to everyone, then the terms in the license no longer apply.

Unless I am reading it wrong, nothing in the original post seems to suggest that they are encouraging sharing - as in other people actually using the images.

As much as I am nervous of Shutterstock, I don't see that they are promoting anything other than collaboration - as in "have a look at this and see whether you think it would work".

Also - given that individuals at agencies clearly already save images to their networked storage (in 2013 everything is the network), I cannot see anything here which is especially unusual.

However, the reality of subscription, as I am certain many customers would privately admit (and perhaps the real story here) is that natural persons already share the files with others within their companies and offices. Subscription already encourages that.

Yep, maybe it's 'customized' for just the subscription users and single image buyers don't get this 'customized' feature.

Ok.  Sorry, just thought SS contributors might want to look into it.  That is all.

Thanks, I did look into it. Just waiting for others to say something about it. I dont think its as bad as it looks, considering they offer multi seat deals.

Do you get paid more for the 'team subscriptions' which looks to be one of those multi seat deals.

Yes, it reminded me of something I heard before, but now I remember, that's Alamy not SS. Will they get free un-watermarked images for proposals and presentations too?  >:(  Multi-use for bigger customers. Hopefully that means, they pay more and we get more. But no evidence or truth to that "hope".

They do seem to be rapidly heading in the direction another agency has taken.
