A couple of weeks ago I got a similarly impossible first part - just ignored it and typed in the right side, and it worked.

I don't know why SS is hooked on 'captcha' technology.  None of the other agencies are using it, and I believe there are better (and certainly less annoying) ways to get a secure logon.

I had one that had some numbers on a photo of a door frame. Sometimes I try those; usually I just click the button to get another image that I can decipher.

I hate these. If I promised never to use any screen scraping programs,I wish they'd give me an option never to have to see one again.

Yeah, they have nothing to do with security, they are to stop computers from logging on without a person involved to collect stats and I find them exceedingly annoying. SS and 123RF seem to be the main culprits. I find it especially annoying with a very slow connection and when I type it in correctly and they say wrong.

I usually hit the reload button 'til I get a short and easy one.

You might know this already, but if you click on the button just above the speaker ("say it") icon, the circling arrows,it will give you a new captcha and you will not have to wait for the page to reload or validate your empty entry.

Two options:

1) enter some characters about the same number as the scrambled word, and then the correct easy word.

2)
Refresh
get a new one, there's no charge or award for being frustrated with a crippled ReCaptcha.

Reminder on most sites, if you get it wrong, your automatically entered password is REMOVED and blank, you'll be entering over and over and never get in. Use the back button after a failed test and your stored password is entered again. Back Button...
