Title: Icon sets
Post by: CofkoCof on March 28, 2008, 14:08
I've created a few icon(button) sets with 16 buttons in a set. Now I'm thinking if I should submit a whole set or submit buttons separately. Doesn't seem right to give away the whole set for 0.25$.

Here is an example:

Do a search, sorted by most popular, of the words icon sets.

There's a ton of stuff and almost all of it large sets. You can obviously do what you like, but I can't see how you'd sell too many individual ones (unless they're really different from everything else already there) given what your competition is already doing.

I don't upload vectors to SS, just the JPEGs from them, because I don't want to give away the editable, scalable file for 30 cents. I do make very large JPEGs of my vectors, so the buyer gets a lot for 30 cents, just not everything :)

Your buttons are great (I would buy them!) but you should look at popular platforms like Joomla, Wordpress, Mambo and others to make the series complete. You can maximize revenue also by offering several color schemes and sizes of the same buttons, as template designer might buy an extended license. Don't forget the shadowed version for the "hover over" and "clicked down" image. You can end up with 10 x 3 versions of the same set.

I am aware that collections sell better but I'm wondering if a collection would really sell 16 times as much as the buttons if I submitted those. I guess they do cos there are many available and it's better for a designer to get 16 then just one. Still it doesn't feel right to offer them for 0.25$. I submit vectors to SS since they sell really well (at least in the my first month there).

Tnx for the encouraging words, I'm still a begginer :D I have 4 packs of 16 so I think it coveres pretty much all that you need (for web, will do others soon) :D I just didn't want to make a set of 64, that would be stealling from me if they went for 0.25. Also I'm adding "Web icon set part 1" in the description if someone wants to buy more.

I have some with different color schemes will do the same for this set. Actually I have used the buttons before :D

My best seller is very simple glossy vector with 6 buttons:

I'm making a library of things I create. Like icons you put on top of the button. I have them aligned for 4x4 grid of buttons so everytime I make a new design I just put them over and I'm finished. It's very easy to reuse the same thing over and over again.

Vectors sell much much more though.. I can say you are losing a lot of money if you are not submitting vectors..
