I watched this video yesterday.

https://youtu.be/Dfqp9xD188A

"This video tells you about the outcome what can happen if you disclose your stock photography earnings publicly. Even sharing screenshots or writing about your earning in any post or blog is a violation of Shutterstock terms of service and will get your account banned!"

Has any also experienced account disabling for this reason?

Shutterstock has a mafia style of doing things. It is beyond of me why people, for a few dollars in most cases, deal with such an unethical company.

I don't think it is any offence to show earnings.
The guys clearly says that he is a motivational video influencer and by sharing his earning he has referred many contributors to join shutterstock.

But at the end, he has also signed an agreement with Shutterstock which states that earnings should not be disclosed.
Same is the case with youtube too, people are not allowed to share youtube earnings too.

This is the Terms of Service section they referred to:-

https://submit.shutterstock.com/legal/terms?/

14. Confidentiality

By submitting any Content to Shutterstock, you acknowledge that you will acquire certain confidential and proprietary information, including but not limited to royalty rates, royalty payments and earnings data (collectively, "Confidential Information"). You agree to keep Confidential Information confidential and to not disclose Confidential Information to any third party other than representatives, agents, attorneys, accountants, auditors and advisors with a bona fide need to know, who shall first agree to keep the terms confidential.

But they never used to enforce that ~ but with the new regime change they will obviously start making it an issue

I don't put my work in that lousy Company. I don't trust them a bit. Nevertheless i must say: Wow.

Let me see if i get this right.... If you pay taxes then Its public information how much you earn in SS right? Anyone can share the IRS. Getting your block account for sharing this info is ridiculous and useless.  So i don't really understand this fear SS campaign. What Shutterstock wants to hide?

People are free to speak how much they earn and with who! anyone knows even how much football players earn...this is absurd for me.

On the other hand, I kind see suspicious and interest in making some investigations from IRS and FBI to see if everything is right. Because this is the kind of moves that companies do when they want to hide profits or holes in financial statements. Since SS is USA base company, contributors from there, should start to put a word of this move to authorities and question with them the illegally of the act.

Its beyond my understanding that how one can not show his OWN earning... he was not showing someone else earning. Its what he earned.  These sites are just mediator and once they pay the contributors their share of income, the stock sites role should end here. After that what someone is doing with that money, if he shows it to others or not its out of these sites' control criteria.
In fact that guy was promoting SS and he said in video that many others joined SS watching his earning videos.
It literally means that SS wants to hide from others how low they can pay or something else.
In getty forum also when someone asked that he wants to sell rights of one of his file and that how he can remove it from getty, the moderator started enquiring him that how the buyer finds his file and the buyer should have come to getty to get that file as that file must be available with getty only.
That contributor then politely reminded him that he still possesses the Rights of his own files and he can do what ever he wants
These kind of stuffs really force me to just stick with sites like Alamy and Pond5. No matter if i dont sell that often but at least it will assure me that my work is not helping these greedy stock sites earn more ...

They are scared! scared of getting a lousy reputation. SS is a tarnished company with ingredients like greed ripping off contributors thats been with them for years. Yes no wonder they are scared!

I can't share my earnings from Shutterstock because I won't give them any of my work.

My contract says:

1.1 Not a chance in hell you will get any of my work for the disrespect you show contributors.
1.2 Not a chance in hell you will get any of my work for the pathetic insulting royalties you offer.

No, you didn't get it right - information sent to the IRS is private.  That's why we still haven't seen Trump's taxes after all these years (except what was leaked by others).

I think that SS policy is too restrictive and probably counterproductive, but their playground, their rules, you either accept it or not.

There's something else going on with this guy. I know everyone loves to hate SS, but why him and not the pages and pages of other people? https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=my+shutterstock+earnings+2020

Did someone turn him in or complain? Look on the link, there's a girl that posts every month, her SS monthly earnings. There are also stock revolt and protest videos that show earnings data. If SS wanted to go after people, it wouldn't be someone who claims to have referred 1,000 new people, but someone who is advocating, drop your SS account, protest and upload to other sites? But they don't.

ps The video he says he deleted isn't removed, he's still showing SS earnings:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_2vKGrpPEo

So please lets get over the panic attack and name calling. People post earnings here and on the SS forum and get no warnings, no accounts locked. This isn't as simple as SS is going around locking accounts for showing earnings on YouTube. There is more to this.

https://www.shutterstock.com/g/DrArindamGhosh

Account is active by the way.

And true it is in the terms that we shouldn't share earnings, down to the basic facts, if I did that and they locked my account, who's fault is that?

November Earnings Thread on the SS forum. How many DLs and the total earnings, pages long. No one banned or locked or warned.

I'd be suspicious of the YouTube guy, but I know people here will just decide SS is evil and condemn them.

May be you guys are right, i dont know. Because in one video he mentioned that his adobe stock account was also blocked so he made another new account in adobe... what can be the reason according to you for his ss account ban ? You are right that we become biased when we hear only one side but its also true that SS is an evil now

Yeah we agree on the important part?  ;)  Anyone could wonder or ask, why the selective enforcement, while on their own forum, nothing is done?

Correct also, no I don't know, I'm just questioning what's behind this and my view is, it's not as simple as, watch out this could happen to you.

New account in Adobe is 19 pages? https://stock.adobe.com/contributor/209804056/arindam?load_type=author&prev_url=detail  this guy is busy. I watched his video review of Wirestock and he doesn't understand, you can't upload the same photos that you have already uploaded. He's limited to 100 a week because of rejections. He had 96 rejections and 4 accepted. He's right of course for most people, better off uploading on our own, but for the wrong reasons.

You are confusing opinions or politics with facts, but fine, I think the whole evil thing and the constant picking on SS has gone from June commission cuts, making us all unhappy, protests, unions, petitions, closed accounts, into a witch hunt for things to find wrong so people can attack SS. (also just another opinion based comment) Just like some places in the world, the US is the evil empire.  ;D

He seems very driven and intelligent and a teaching doctor. Just odd that he would be so taken by Microstock. However YouTube subscriptions and views can make some people, extra cash? Much like Microstock, that's a big effort for small pay.

My real view of SS has come down to this. How much time, effort and money does anyone want to spend for 10 cents? Free will, free choice. Everyone do your own thing, I'll do mine.

I was reading ss forum, old ones also. some contributors who had disabled their port now again up for sale. i dont know whats the use of crying then.
And 1-2 contributors bragging their earning despite SS made changes and their comments in forum make me feel as if they are speaking on behalf of SS and trying to convince others to keep uploading in SS and like video sale for 1-2 $ dont matter, what matters how you earn at the end and how you have chance to earn big money occasionally in SS hahaha

Another YouTube channel is now saying that he's just learned that it is against many stock agencies terms and conditions to disclose earnings of those agencies. His remarks begin at 7.54 mins.

https://youtu.be/1p0hjiA91hY

He goes on to state his earnings by aggregating four or five agencies together.

Here are another two channels who also regularly disclose their Shutterstock earnings.

Always makes me laugh, why do I never see monthly earnings from the top stock shooters?
We all know the usual names.

Never been interested to share how much I earn.
But can't understand why SS would be so concerned about people sharing their earnings, unless it was because it would show what a pittance people earn from image sales.

I think I had about 16 pages of sales on IS the other month and it came to a pretty low amount.

Do the agents ever stop to think about the artists?
How can we produce top work with models and make it profitable.

Its simply unsustainable.
At one time this industry was a good way to make a living.
It is now beyond a joke.

Isn't the timing interesting, just a few weeks to go before everybody goes to Tier1 earnings?

Why wasn't he notified a year ago?

Seems like they are trying to anticipate the huge public criticism they will soon receive by using a scapegoat to warn others.

It does look like damage control before an event they know (and have calculated) is going to generate a huge backlash initially.  They'll bank on it passing eventually just like it did in June but initially they're preparing for a very bad press for a few weeks.
This does seem to be the "new regime" tactics - people with accounts going for criticism of the policy change and so on.  Their entire business practice has gone from fairly relaxed to increasingly strict and intolerant of any dissent.  Its all about public image.

Interesting they seem to be spending more resources making sure people don't publish earnings than they do with stolen portfolios.
