I remember the last two years shutterstock raised their prices in April and we were given a raise in May.  I can't see anything in the forum about a raise this year, I wonder if they are keeping prices the same because of the economic downturn?  Or perhaps they have seen how another site does it and we will be informed after it happens :)

I haven't heard any rumors regarding this. However it seems unlikely to get a raise this year, given the global financial crisis.

Just today I wondered the same thing. Will we have the annual raise? Somehow no one talked about it in the forums or I have not read about it until  I came upon your thread Shapshot.

There's been a couple attempts at starting threads, but none of them have taken off like in previous years.

Sales haven't been the same there since before the last price hike.  I know it was likely a combination of factors (introducing OD, new subs programs at FT, JI, etc. ) but they better really think it through before they raise the prices this year with the economy in the state its in.   They should give us a big raise of course, but I'm not sure how much they can raise the prices  ;).

My earnings did seem to go down after each raise and April was dreadful, as the buyers had to pay more but we didn't get the raise until mid May.  I don't mind if they skip it this year.

I've also thought about this recently and decided that most probably there will be no raise this year.

I've never understood why Jon gives us every year better commission. We don't deserve it. We are egoist ready to support every crappy site. We contribute to site like Crestock, Canstock and their $0.25 earnings, we accepted lowering commission from Fotolia, $0.20 "promotion" commission from 123. No reason for SS to pay us more.

I stopped uploading to crestock last year just because the $0.25 is too low.  I am sure I am not the only one who wont put up with low subs commissions anymore.  I have started to upload to canstock again, as they now have $0.30 subs and $19.80 ppd from Fotosearch.  Fotolia lowered commissions but raised prices, this is going to be a BME for me there.  123 have higher subs commissions than most of the other sites.

If the microstock sites don't keep increasing my earnings, I will move on to something else.  Perhaps they don't need me or any of us that want to be paid more but I think they will be more successful if they keep us motivated.

Speak for yourself.  A lot of us invest many thousands of dollars a year in new, better equipment and better locations, models and props.

Not to mention that when the sites raise the prices they charge for our images it is only logical (not to mention fair) to increase payments to the suppliers that make the product they are charging more for.  Aside from one site that recently raised prices and dropped commissions, that is the way it has always been and should be.

That said, I completely understand any site that doesn't want to raise prices and royalties in this economic climate.  I am happy with the raises we have gotten when times are good and look forward to those good times again once the economy rebounds.  Meanwhile I can hold expenses to current levels.

i doubt they will raise prices given the economic situation. I would think that if they do, they may end up losing clients who will go for cheaper options and alternatives since there are other service providers around and so many micro stock. In times like these, even consumers would be more selective.

Who exactly are "We"?  I do not do business with Crestock and Canstock, and I pulled all of my images from Fotolia.

There are many ways to tell microstock agencies who underpay contributors and treat us poorly to take a hike.  You can go exclusive with iStock.  You can go exclusive with Dreamstime.  Each treats its contributors very well in my opinion, and have consistently raised the bar on fair pricing.  And of course there is the macro option too.  Nobody has to be underpaid, they only choose to be and then complain about it after the fact.

I stopped contributing to Crestock and Fotolia and will pull all my images off both of those sites soon. Not like a measly couple thousand images will matter much but I think it will make me feel better. The last couple of Fotolia maneuvers have been very unfair. Plus their, say anything bad about us and we'll kick you out attitude just doesn't sit well with me.
