shutterstock sometimes is curious to me.
mostly i get 9/10 rejected . most times with the poor lighting reason.
one day in a week i get 9/10 accepted.
every week. really every week in one day is there a golden day for me.

is there a "perfect time" for uploading ?
anyone else  with that experience ?

pick those days to submit to SS.
looking on the bright side of monty python,
with SS your chances r much higher than winning the lottery

I've had a handful of debatable rejections of late - although it seems to be back to normal now. In my early learning period I would often be fried and served up with chips on the weekends by reviewers - so to this day, I avoid uploading on a Friday.

No idea if this is still the case but old habits die hard. Honestly, I don't think it matters much but I expect some nut somewhere has statistics and charts to prove me wrong.

If you're getting batches mostly rejected and others mostly accepted, I'd say that you really do have lighting problems.  Those sort of results indicate images on the line, where one reviewer will go (mostly) one way and another (mostly) the other way.  Take a careful look at your processing, maybe try to improve contrast, brightness, white balance, clarity or some combination.

When I get those kinds of seemingly random combinations of rejection and acceptance, it's generally because shooting conditions weren't ideal.  Shooting outdoors on a low contrast day, or a moving platform (like a scenic railroad a couple of weeks ago), compensation partially by a higher ISO.  Or shooting indoors where the lighting was hard and my effort to improve contrast was only partially successful.  In both cases I'm happy to get *something* approved, and may go back and rework some of the rejections in hope of improving my ratio.  By contrast, when I have more control over conditions, I generally get close to 100% acceptance.

If rejections really were random, we wouldn't be able to do much about it.  I don't see those random rejections and don't believe they happen nearly as often as gets claimed.

Now is the right time to look closely at your pictures.

Meaning... dont look at shutterstock, look at you.
What changed?

Some reviewers work fast and accept quick. Other reviewers work fast and reject big batches. Luck of the draw. Reviewers are required to work hours and are supposed to work weekends. Should be the same all days all week. To many rejects for wrong reasons is the fast review making rejections. No consistant way to know what they will do or who will get your pictures.

I uploaded the pictures rejected by Shutterstock , on Getty Images. They are giving me 75$ on each sale.
Thank you so much shutterstock.
There are 75 such rejections in a few weeks all of which got into Getty, no rejections there. Some of them made to "Getty Prestige Collection".

Well the reasons in most rejections by SS was poor composition, and bad lighting. LOL SS.

I actually just got two rejections on a set.  One was missing a release, and the other, apparently, I missed a Nike logo on.  So, there are humans there, lol.

Good! I am at about 90% average...rejections are usually for missed trademarks etc. No complaints.

I think I could get 90 - 95% acceptance (leaving out the random entire batch rejections) if I wanted to.  But I find sometimes the ones that are hardest to get accepted are the better sellers.  I think it is because the reviewer has a vision of what they are supposed to accept, which means images start to look all the same.  So if a buyer is looking for something different the ones that are not the same are the ones that stand out.  So out of a batch of 20 I have 15 I am comfortable will get accepted and 5 that are more 'edgy'.  Sometimes those go through, mainly they don't, but I still like pushing the envelope a bit.

Seems like Shutterstock has a "bad" and a "good"reviewer lately. If your photos end up at the angry reviewer slash/slash/slash mostly they're gone rejected. The other one is go/go/go most of them get through. Kinda frustrated, but  wait few days and I upload them again and some go through this time. Shrug.

This year I'm approx. 99.9% approval rate, I only upload on average 40-50 vectors per month though.

The problem of reviewers in shutterstock is quite big. personally I found that at least 50% of my rejection are not related with the statement. I.E. I have a picture that is really out of focus, published in my SS portfolio, and my best seller both in Istock and Fotolia, was rejected three times in SS.

Lighting mistake is an abused phrase: sometime is used for object shot in softbox with 100% white background.

A picture of an optical bank with a laser diffraction cannot have "artifacts" and I explain that to reviewer, but without results. The subject of the picture that I sold almost weekly in other five agencies is the diffraction that seems artifacts.

Every of my photograph published on ads, magazine, giant posters etc... was rejected by SS and SS accept what all the others will reject.

That's OK, is part of the game, I'm not complaining, but I really think that the reviewers are acting without unity and with different protocols.

I avoid uploading op Thursday and Friday, because I see more rejections on files reviewed over weekend. This week I got it really bad. I have a more than 90% acceptance rate at Shutterstock. This week however I had a batch of more than 30 photos rejected, all for the same reason: Out of focus or blurry. I took the photos on different times, different locations, using different cameras and lenses. Al the photos have two things in common: 1) I was the photographer; and 2) they are 100% sharp and in focus. After 7 years with SS something like this has never happened to me. I still don't know what I'm going to do, perhaps I will resubmit with a note to the reviewer that there must have been a technical problem with the first review - that is all I can think must have happened.

Lately my acceptance ratio is close to 100%. But my subject matter is quite simple; landscapes.

Odd, I try to upload on Friday or weekends, because the images go live on Monday. But if more people would avoid Weekends, I'd be even happier, because less new competition at the start of the week.

Or are you trying to say, weekend reviewers are different than weekday reviews?

I can't explain it, but I seem to get rejections only on weekends!

Believe me, I'm not disagreeing about not understanding anything. I make no claims for understanding better than anyone else.

Just pointing out that there are all kinds of ideas about the best days for exposure and getting accepted. The weekend thing got legs from people writing it and others being led to see the same.

Then there's the part about new photos getting accepted on Fri-Sun and dying. So what does that leave?

Only upload on Monday?  :D

There'snt  best day of the week, thera are only strange reviewers absolutely random. An example of what is happening in october:  I have my three best sellers in Istock, Dreamstime and Fotolia, rejected three times, and five horrible pictures accepted ONLY by SS. The truth is that submit pictures is a gamble, if you don't shoot smiling picture of happy people in a soft box.

The strange thing is that when folks show actual examples of what is rejected the majority of contributors usually agree with the reviewer
