Not sure its such a new threat as a few of the sites have been going for several years.

Smart tools on the latest compact cameras also mean that amateur snappers do not have to be very skilled.

"Unfortunately, we need to be paid to survive. I have seen very little evidence, if any, that anyone can thrive on a microstock income," says Betsy Reid from the Stock Artists Alliance.

Yes I am still alive on the last city of my grand tour of the USA so I haven't had much time to read and write at this forum.

I'm so tired of hearing about this crap.......  these people are nothing but a bunch of whiners.  I also pay a mua,  models and location fees.  And yes I am making a living at this , well thanks to my husband working~lol   But, I am seeing my earnings rise every month with continued hard work, and able to help w/ a large portion of our bills while having my own spending $$ as well.

I feel so sorry for these "artists" that now they have to produce 60 images from a shoot instead of 10. (are you kidding me?)  It's the technology age, deal with it.  Work harder instead of crying about something your not going to change.

Last saturday I assisted an "old school" photographer in a session for a fashion catalogue.

In an afternoon we ended up with over 300 shots of whom we selected 44 to be submitted to the client.

So there are the ones accostumed to work for just 10 shots and the ones accostumed to work hard even before the digital revolution.

"Strangely" that photographer rarely has a day without some work to do despite the cheapo microstock images.
