I don't ignore anyone.
I never will.
I don't see the point.
Much less do I see the point in adding a button to ignore whole threads!
Hahaha!
People really are either very sensitive, think too highly of themselves or have too much time on their hands :)
No, I don't need that button.
But have it if you want to ... I don't mind :)

I'm so lazy lately... spending more time reading forums than editing pictures (a huge backlog)

So I want a "Forum ignore button". Or even better a "Internet ignore button", thanks.

Oh yes, I could get on board with that, certainly.  Also a "noisy neigbour ignore button" would have been useful for the last few days.

I use this forum by going to http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php which shows the latest active threads from each of the subforums.  The more nonsense posted in any forum, the quicker the useful and interesting threads fall off that front page.  I tried tapatalk to view the forum, but I have to go into each subforum to see if there's anything new, so that's a waste of time.

Being able to keep more useful threads on the front page by not showing threads I don't care about would be useful.

I also use that page. Just by looking the 10 first topics I can have a notion of what's happening that's relevant.

ditto. never been a big television watcher. we've never bothered with cable because of all the garbage on television. it dawned on me that while uploading/keywording/processing...I spend many hours everyday online, which is almost the same as watching hours of TV. an internet ignore button might be good...;-)

A thread ignore button seems like a pretty silly solution to me. Everyone can see clearly who starts a topic, don't want to be involved, don't read it.

I regularly ignore threads about other agencies that don't relate to me, I've also seen an amzing amount of whining and nonsense threads here. It's not like it is any thing new.

You can ignore anyone you don't like, it works like a charm.

You all cry that Lobo is too strict on istock, now you want even more than he does.

There may be a lot more exclusives coming here in the future, I think you need to get used to it.

Firstly I'd like to point out a couple of things:

1. This isn't about iStock or about Exclusive iStock contributors, you're the only one that's mentioned it - please don't try and twist this around any personal agenda you have.

2. Not that it has anything to do with this thread but people moan that Lobo is too strict on censorship about iStock, I thought my request was quite easy to understand even for the most poorly educated in the english language, my request has nothing to do with forum censorship or deleting posts/threads but I'll try and spell it out for simply you - I'm asking for a feature whereby I (me, myself) can ignore complete threads so that when I come to this site I can read and comment if I so choose on threads that are of interest or use to me. What I'm asking for in no way whatsoever effects what you or anybody else can see. Plus what I'm asking for could and would be of use for everybody else here to use as and if they choose.

I tend to agree with you on this RT. It's a feature that could be used individually or not used. Not anything to do with policing.

Come on all, have you seriously become that lazy that you can't skip over a thread or a post?
No, I'm very busy and like most things in my business life I want to reduce wasted time as much as possible.

Have you all become this intollerant, ignorant and basically up yourselves that not only do you want to ignore posts and individuals but now entire threads?
Yes that's why I'm asking for this feature in the first place ???

You are aware that you too will be ignored right?
Geez no I hadn't thought of that, thanks for pointing it out  ::)

Ignoring is the most idiotic feature in a forum because you end up with half-arsed conversations and people talking to themselves.  It causes more b.itch fights than it reduces them.  It will devalue the site and look stupid to new people who look in.
In your opinion, in mine it wouldn't which is why I was asking if others feel the same way, sorry this isn't a dictatorship.

Have you seriously become that self-involved that you think this website/forum was built just for you only?
No I've never said that, my request no way effects the way anybody else chooses to use this forum, in fact my intention is that it could enhance the way the forum could be used.

A forum exists so a group of people can get together and discuss their opinions on a matter.  You're never going to like everyone and everyone's opinion.  Can't you accept that and live with it?  If you're so bothered about it, the forum doesn't need changing, you do... you need thicker skin and the ability to not let things bother you so much. This isn't your living room, it's a forum that's open to the public.  Get over yourselves, it makes you look... I'm not even going to say the words... but grow up!  It's hard to believe you're all adults sometimes!
Thank you for the lecture, you're entitled to your opinion, personally I don't need, want or value your opinion and I'm asking for a way to deal with that whereby I don't feel the need to converse with you.

Another thing.. what you're asking is a lot of work for leaf and you should pay him to do it if you really want it.
I don't know if it's a lot of work, I'll take your word that you do, but if you read my initial post you'll see I asked if it was possible, I have no doubt Tyler would let me know if it involved a lot of work. As for paying him, this is his site and he earns revenue through it from advertising and the like, I've already stopped the renewal of my premium membership (yes I know he gives that to Kiva) because I felt the site has slipped from what it used to be, by the very nature of the fact I've made this request and others have pointed out they feel the same way would, I imagine, indicate to him that people who have been coming here for years are frustrated by the way the site has changed and that may be an indication to future loss of some readers.

As I pointed out in my reply to Cobalt above my request for a thread ignore button would in no way effect how you or anyone else uses the site, so if you feel the need to reply please bear this in mind and resist the urge to insult others over things you haven't understood.

Absolutely correct, it could be used, or not used however the individual pleases without it affecting the way anybody else uses the site. (by the way I've taken you off ignore now were agreeing with each other  :-* )

Where would we be if we always had to to pander to those "can't be bothered" - I think that says more about the OP than the posters he wishes to ignore.

You might be in a situation whereby you spent less time here filtering through threads which would enable you to get more work done, maybe even enough to reach black diamond.

That would be a great feature to the site. I started to come here less than in the past, because exactly the stupid chitchat threads that hold on to frontpage all the times. There's Facebook & the likes for people who want to socialize, this should be a stock photography forum. And I should be able to weed out the crap and see only the stock related subjects and from the people who actually have something meaningful to say, instead of some idiotic "I don't know about this, maybe somebody else knows".

I've added a poll to keep it simply and to enable people to make their views known without having to comment, if you've previously commented please add your vote.

To be totally clear for those that are unsure what this is all about the thread ignore button would be a way for you personally to organise the site so that when you visit the home page you have the ability to remove the threads you don't want to read, that could be for whatever reason you so wish. It would not effect the way others see the site, it wouldn't remove any threads for others to see and most importantly it doesn't infringe on anybodies right of free speech.

I see the use in such a feature and I'm not sure yet how much work it would be.  There doesn't seem to be any add-ons that do exactly what you are asking so it would have to be a bit of a hack, which is do-able certainly but the time needed to do so is not certain.

I wouldn't ask for any payment though.. if there was enough people who were interested in the feature it would be worthwhile to add.

Leaf,
Would it be easy to let us navigate through the list of recent threads (http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php), which is now limited to 50 latest? I mean, besides the 50 latest, a "next" button would take us to the 51st to 100th latest and so forth.

There is a lot of crap on the site recently.  I don't find myself coming here or commenting as often as I used to.

I don't know if I would feel the need to use a thread ignore button, but if it isn't too much trouble for Tyler, it would be a nice feature.

FWIW, I am sorry to hear that anyone would be canceling their premium membership.  I don't blame Tyler for the trolling that sometimes gets out of hand here.  He seems to strike a good balance between putting a lid on the worst of it, and still allowing a free flowing exchange.

I  do understand where you're coming from Richard.  However this site is still a very valuable resource and I hope most of us who use it would continue to support it.  JMHO.

"Unfortunately, other people feel the need to reply to his posts, and they quote him when replying. So no, the ignore button doesn't cut down totally on the problem. But an ignore thread would. "

This is a good logical argument. Thank you.

I support a thread ignore button, provided it is easily doable for leaf.

Right here is the difference between you and I.  I already know you're opinion on this matter.  I didn't need to read your post.  I read the first couple of lines, just because I'm scrolling and see my ID standing out, I've thought to myself "CRAP", then "SKIP"  done, no real time wasted at all on your post :)  You should learn to have some self control.  Honestly, I have to say, I really have not noticed you much in this forum.  Usually I skip what you say probably because you've said something along the lines that I probably found to be rubbish and I now skip you often... not on purpose.  I'm not going to put you on ignore because somewhere down the road, you may have someting interesting to say.

In general...

If someone ignores a thread that initially looks like crap, what happens if midpoint the thread turns and ends up with 100 posts and includes some really useful, relevant information that will effect them and they've missed it... all because some stupid emotion drove them to initially discard the thread. I don't think many of you have run forums before but isn't the point of them for them to be read?  They need clicks... it helps the forum's SEO.  Another thing, forums tend to fill up with crap when there's nothing going on externally that needs to be discussed.  That's all it is.  There is nothing major going on in the microstock world right now, so threads are mostly about rubbish.  The rubbish at least is keeping the forum from dropping down in google.  To me, if I scroll down the first page and there's nothing that interests me, and I'm busy, great, it means there's nothing going on and I can get back to work rather than wasting time discussing rubbish.

Anyway, to me it makes no difference whatsoever if you people ignore threads.  But I believe, in the interest of the forum itself, it's no good for it.  That's just my opinion.  Ignore it if you want, ignore my post if you want, ignore any thread I'm in, if you want.... makes no difference to me personally.

:)
