Well, here we are in January 2008.  Having launched their Beta in August last year, I have yet to see any evidence from Snapvillage that it is a serious entry into the microstock market.

First they launched without IPTC and didn't appear to understand the need for it.  They provided a keyword and category facility, but that department appears to be staffed by people with no previous experience or knowledge of keywording or the microstock industry.

There have been no further developments to the web site apart from modification of the watermark.

If it was anyone else I could understand, but this is Corbis who claim to be the second largest global distributor of images.  they certainly have customers, but appear to be unable or unwilling to capitalise on that.

I hope I will be pleasantly surprised, but on the evidence so far I'd have to describe Snapvillage as the biggest damp squib I've yet seen in microstock.

I think you will be surprised.  They have some sales there, they are doing much better than Albumo that launched at the same time.  That is the reason why I upload to sites.  Why no wait for a year after the site is launched properly?  That will be the time to decide if it is a serious site.  It is their site, so they can take it as slowly as they like.

well i have managed one sale so far, but that isnt enough to get me to excited about the site yet.

And yes, of course they can take it as slow as they want - but microstock photogs. are interested in selling on sites where they get substantial sales.... so far snap village isnt one of those sites.

Back a few months ago I talked to the CEO, Nandini Ranjitkumar about their new site. Asides from being a very kind person, I am afraid she has a very low degree of understanding about what it takes to make a competitive microstock agency these days. Snapvillage reminds me of Microsoftslow, full of mistakes and overly ambitious.
