I clicked and it took me right to Iofoto's home page with all his images front and center??? 

I did it twice and same thing??

I think Google considers the popularity of an URL, I'm not sure if clicks only (I'm not even sure Google can know that) but definitely links to it.  It's not surprising that a photographer like Iofoto has many views or links to his portfolio, so this may be the explanation to this result.

It probably has something to do with the way Google works: the clever guys float to the top.

But it is Snapvillage's web address, nothing to do with Iofoto.

How can google effect that?

Wow! I didn't know this- but anyone can help push their page to higher search results by creating  links from their own site. While no one knows for sure, many suspect that Google evaluates the number of links to a page as a measure of how useful the page might be to others.

That is one of our goals with the iofoto.com home page. We support all our distributors- links are embedded throughout the site.

By the way, a site like iofoto.com is easy and inexpensive to set-up. We use a free Wordpress design template and Dreamhost servers at less than $15/month. There's even less expensive, or free hosting, available as well.

Because the webprogrammers of SV don't realize that you have to put the name of the contributor too in the page title/metatags that gets exposed to the Google bots. Whatever, they still run WordPress, an Open Source CMS. No wonder they can't come up with FTP.

You should tell your WordPress guy to change the metatag keywords in your WordPress install to your own keywords. Right now, they still are the standard Wordpress ones.

Thanks for the hint! That "WordPress guy" is me- just updated the header.php file with a base set of keywords!

IOFoto: To help optimize your wp install use:  All in One SEO Pack which can be found from : http://wp.uberdose.com/ . The plugin is very well made and help your optimize you site without modifying any of the php files etc:).  The Google XML Sitemaps plugin found from: http://www.arnebrachhold.de/ helps your site notify google when something changes on your site.

I have been using these plugins on my site ( http://www.mjp-photographs.fi ) which helps to get some keywords top of the list (e.g. put "artificial ice cubes" to google and my page is showed on fourth place (at the moment)). Only thing I did is use that seo plugin.

You're welcome. Like mjp said, there is a very good SEO package for Wordpress. I consider iofoto.com one of the best photogs sites around so I took the liberty to copy the concept on flemishdreams. I just wondered why you picked Wordpress and not Joomla.

to MJP: Thanks for the suggestion- I have downloaded and installed- we'll see what happens!

to FlemishDreams: Joomla is a more powerful CMS, but my experience was already in WP, so I opted for the lower learning curve. Unfortunately, I'm not that tech savvy- I would rather be shooting than hacking CSS!
