Hello! I have a new client who wants me to do some web video, and I need help! I dont know the details yet, but I want to sound like the expert when he asks me this (as I know he will). So, the thing I need to know is:
When using 3D on the web as a video, what programs or formats should I use? The options Im thinking of are, first, something done in 3D Studio Max, and somehow shown on the internet using streaming technology (I dont know so much about this, so if you can tell me about a format itd help). Second, using Director, as I remember that has some kind of 3D tools which I havent used before. Or lastly, by using Swift 3D on Flash- which Ive never used and I assume can only do very basic 3D that isnt very complicated. Or is there another way I dont know about?
I know how to use flash, 3D studio, and I know a little about director but havent touched any of the 3d stuff. Thanks to whoever answers here. This is something Ive wanted to learn for a while- it certainly is some cool stuff.

hmm not too sure if there are any video guros here??? maybe hiding in the woodwork....

Well you can export the 3D animation as any format you want, .avi or .mov for example being the 2 most popular. After rendering the animation as .mov at the right size and compression you display it on the browser by using the embed tag OR you can import it to flash and have it as a flash movie which is good because you can customize the look easier :)

Wow, thanks very much Andresr! :) Thats really helpful and makes it a lot clearer. Sorry about the long gap- Ive been on holiday in italy. I said Id go and talk to the client when I got back. If you could, Id just like to ask a couple more questions- its not often that I get to talk to someone this knowledgeable in this field!
I was wondering if you could recommend which Quicktime compression to use?
Also (I bet the client will ask me about this), what kind of size would be a maximum for the web? 640x480 or something? I guess this is never really set in stone, but is there a rough size you could recommend?
And lastly, what do you think of Flash's Swift 3D? Is it something I should consider learning for this? Is it a serious option for this kind of thing?

Oh and one last question! I just noticed on Istock that you can buy videos in MP4 format for the web. Would that be a format everyone could use? Thanks very much :) Ill stop asking questions now! ;D
