ok i am still undecided on this as once you start it i think there is no going back and i dont want to regret on a system that i cant go out from after organising. So i am assessing my options before i take the plunge.
(Freeware....me not spending a cent on software as they just get over-ride by new ones all the time. me only buy microsoft for word/powerpoint etc).

Heard of these two freewares for keywording? Used them before? Which is better?
1) Pixvue
2) irfanview
3) XnView

my vote is for pixvue (though I haven't used the other two)

it detects duplications in keywords
it has autofill so it will predict the rest of the title, desciption, copyright holder and website from the first character
it puts a little mark on the corner of the thumbnail when editted

my only gripe is that it puts keywords in alphabetic order so a pain for FT first 7 keywords are most important rule

I am sure all the programs are better than PS and much better than typing the keywords in once the file is uploaded

Irfanview is not so bad, but I had some problem with it two years ago. I cannot say for sure if the problem was from Irfanview or if that was a virus problem... at that time, my computer was a party place for virus!  lol

The problem I had, was that the icons images were not the same as the image itself... so I have deleted and renamed the wrong images... what a mess!  Two years later, I'm still not confident enough to rename, delete, or deplace my photos with it.

My step-father use it alot and never had problem with it. But if you decide to use this one, I suggest you do some test before been full confident with it.

Thanks to fintastique, I will try pixvue !   :)

I use Exifer for the first edition: file name, keywords, personal data imported from a template.  As keywords are always added to the end, I some times use Irfanview to add keywords in a different position.  The order you enter the keywords is mantained, unlike in Pixvue (I haven't used the other two either), and this is important at least in FT.

The only problem with Exifer is that for some misterious reason IS doesn't read the title and keywords, only the description.  I have reported it to them, they said they were aware of this issue but in months they did nothing about it... What I do then is to copy title and keywords after uploading the image to StockXpert.

I use Exifer. I heard the only way iStock recognizes the keywords is by entering them in Photoshop.

I also use IRFanview and is extremely happy with it. The batch processing comes in really handy when you have a 1000+ pics to instantly convert from Tiff to JPG and reduce the size etc.

Thorsten,

I don't know about this, but I have already reported the Exifer incompatibility to IS and they said they were looking into it.  That was in June or July, so I believe in November I wrote them again and never got a reply.  I can only have the description uploaded.
