Author Topic: Upgrading to Lightroom 6 (Read 4585 times)

I am in a dilemma as I am still on Lightroom 5 standalone and want to upgrade to 6. I have never used Photoshop so not sure it will be needed as Lightroom does so much. I am tempted by the CC cloud version of both combined but as I have already bought into the standalone LR it may be counter cost effective.

Can anyone tell me if they think the CC way to go is good, is Photoshop an essential tool for general stock (I don't shoot with people) or is it better to wait for LR 7 and pay for the upgrade to that ?

I only use Photoshop once in a while for the spot healing brush, which is quite better than Lightroom clone tool.

Besides that, Lightroom is enough most of the time for stock.

I've been using CC since it came out and very satisfied - makes working on a home & a travel laptop very simple

I use the batch processing in PS to make simple lighting, autotone, etc on groups of images, then NIK collection if I nered noise reduction, etc

I use LR for renaming files, adding metadata and bulk resizing

In many cases I find the Lightroom's spot healing brush more efficient that the PS one, in particular when it is about removing sensor dust spots.
But, yes, sometimes the PS one is very useful too

You could continue with the Lightroom standalone and use Affinity Photo 1.5 (Mac/Windows) as alternative to Photoshop. https://affinity.serif.com
