No, there isn't any kind of notification I get when it crashes.. It runs fine for a minute and closes, automatically....

I have runned it as admin, and I see its working fine.. I will keep you updated if it closed again.. thanks

Never run it as admin. It's should be working just fine from your default user account. If there's no crash from Xpiks than it's very strange.

There's a possibility that you have third-party software (antivirus, firewall etc.) which closes/quarantines Xpiks, because Xpiks closes itself only if you disagree to the Terms and Conditions (and in case of crash, of course, but then you will get at least Windows standard crash window). So you can check your antivirus/firewall if it blocked Xpiks.

Yes I have avast antivirus and when I run Xpiks it scans the software automatically and then it closes. I think you are correct, this is some compatibility issue with my antivirus.

I wasn't even able to open the program and couldn't figure out what the problem was. Sure enough, I have Avast and when I disabled the shields the program opened right up.

to make it more usefull, convenient and quicker than existing tools.

(...)

  • keywording capabilities as well as setting additional XMP/IPTC metadata (title, description, author)
  • uploading images to Stock Agencies' FTP hosts (keeping encrypted list of credentials)
  • keywords suggestion based on Shutterstock API or local library
  • search through loaded images by any metadata (keywords, description, title)
  • ability to upload vector (eps/ai) files with images with same name (useful for illustrators)
  • automatically zip vectors and previews if needed
  • checks for potential problems before upload (insufficient resolution, missing metadata etc.)
  • spell checking

happy to see this one coming out: finally a nice one!! Currently working with several command line tools (which is about okay) and online "solutions" (which is not). It's great to see that we do not have to bend over backward to Adobe and similar outfits (or run emulator stuff etc) just in order to make keywording and EXIF manipulation etc a tat easier.

Thanks for you work, will check it out as soon as I fixed a bunch of dependencies on Debian/GNU Linux (Linux Mint), details attached as footer below (general update didn't fix it and didn't touch the "old" libQT packages).

Hi Cliff

You're free to take a look at Debian's package specs https://github.com/Ribtoks/xpiks/tree/master/src/xpiks-qt/debian. What distro are you using?

If you will fail with satisfying all the dependencies, you can always try to build Xpiks alone (debian package anyway is a few bugfix releases outdated).

Thanks a lot for sharing this software with us. Really a useful tool.

Some bugs(?)
- Cannot always detect spelling errors in keyword list. Probably it happens when a set a keywords are copied from one image to another (not sure).
- Replace option in spelling correction tool doesn't work properly for keyword list. I had a correct spelling keyword (First I didn't notice that correct one is there) and wrong one in the list. I selected to replace wrong one with the correct one select from suggestion list. However, it didn't remove the wrong one from the list.

Some suggestions:
- Display some of the image details below the thumbnail, such as the date taken. Those data are useful when editing editorial images
- Enable full preview option of images (or an option to open the original file from the disk.). This is useful when we need to seem more detailed view of images.
- Enable bulk edit of the images (select multiple images and edit them at once).
- Show the number of characters in the title (Some agencies, such as SS, has limitations on that. Therefore, it's useful to know the number of characters.)

Hello.

Thanks for the suggestions and bugs descriptions.

1. Bulk edit is already implemented! Select multiple images and press "Edit" button.
2. Full view of the image is implemented as well. First of all there's a "larger" view if you double-click on the image or click "Edit" under keywords. Also true full view is available if you click on the Image title under the image preview. There's a 100% view button.
3. I will add "Date taken" field to the preview. Thanks for the suggestion!
4. Regarding the number of characters, it's not displayed anywhere, but if you will exceed max number of characters, you will get a warning from Xpiks before upload.

Regarding bugs.
1. About the "unable to replace" bug. You cannot edit a keyword to an existing one. If you have "keyword1" and "keyword2", you cannot edit "keyword2" so you will receive two "keyword1"s. So if you have a correct keyword and the one with error it fails to replace the one with error to the correct one because it's already there.
I know it's not obvious at all, but I'm thinking of how to notify user in the most friendly way about it. It will be fixed with the next releases.

2. It can detect wrong spelling. It's just not always submitted for spellchecking (will be fixed soon). To force spellcheck, just simply Select All items and press Tools->Check spelling.

Thanks for your reply. I definitely haven't fully explored all of its functionalities.

4. Regarding the number of characters, it's not displayed anywhere, but if you will exceed max number of characters, you will get a warning from Xpiks before upload.

What is the max number of characters in current settings? (In SS, it's 200)

So if you have a correct keyword and the one with error it fails to replace the one with error to the correct one because it's already there.
Yes, but it doesn't remove the wrong one. It's great if it removes the wrong one while keeping only the correct one.

One more suggestion:
- Add real-time word suggestion function (like in SS). While typing a keyword, the program should be able to suggest list of possible words and a user should be able to pick one from that. (please check the attachment)

Xpiks is already really good. I hope my suggestions will help make Xpiks even better. Thanks again.

I guess you should explore the first post in this topic. There're two "HowTo" blogposts and "TipsAndTricks". I think they cover 95% of Xpiks features you will want to use.

Max number of characters can be set in Settings -> Warnings

Real-time suggestion function is already in the TODO list along with some others. So it will be available in one of the next releases (1.2 or 1.3). Thanks for the suggestion.

Regarding the word removal - we'll see how to do that best.
Thanks for reporting this!

I've downloaded the program, gonna give it a try. I'm using lightroom so it's quite nuisance. ;) Out of curiosity how are you going to monetize the software? I didn't see any pricing on the website.

Went to have a look. "Download the Xpiks zip archive from the link above" it says. There seems to be no such link. But there's an icon on the left so I grabbed that, Says 20 mins to DL..... We will see.

Hello. Please, describe your system, what did you actually download and when do you get the "Qt5Core" missing info?

If it's Windows version, what was tricky in the installation? You just have to unzip 1 archive.

Ta!  I downloaded from the yellow button on your site for Windows. When I clicked on the Dld file I got file called (more or less) Cpix q t 1.1.3.

In this was a list of subfiles - starting Bearer, then Dict. But nothing installed.

So I transfered these into a file on my computer, found an exe which looked hopeful, and the screen did indeed appear as per the demo - but when I tried again (can't remember quite how - set up the icon) - I got that error message.

I'm not tekky, as you can gather.....!

If you will run it from a shortcut from wrong directory you will get this error. Can you please confirm if you run extract archive somewhere and afterwards you just launch xpiks-qt.exe from extracted location, it runs OK?

Extract archive????

I downloaded the zip file from your site.
Nothing opened.
I found what looked to be a likely Exe and ran it.

If I ran something from a wrong directory it was just because that's all I found!

:(

Looks good. Can you add function where the program automatically pick reverent category then submit? Especially for dreamstime. It's really a pain to submit there.

Hi. It's in TODO list for future releases, so eventually I will add this function.

Hi. Categories via metadata are not supported by microstocks. Submitting categories via Xpiks will be available in future releases via plugins.

Thank you for the fast reply.

I might be confused - if micros don't use categories why submit with them?

Or by "submitting categories" do you mean "submit category-A to micro-A, category-B to micro-B"?

Great software btw. Very classy.

All microstocks use different categories. Description, title and keywords are standart Exif/IPTC metadata of image files (jpg, png and almost all others). Categories are not. So microstocks can read description/title/keywords from image files but want contributors to choose categories manually.

By "submitting categories" I mean that Xpiks somehow will overcome this limitation in close future.
