Fixing bugs and adding features is great, but since we have a nicely functioning beta, we have to give everyone a visually standard site. Before we start optimizing other things, lets get you looking good. Since many of you are designers, its even more important that your site show some good taste.

You can see some people have totally gone crazy on this Symbiostock thing - and have done things I didn't even expect were possible yet! But not everyone is a web designer...so we have to help the entry-level people now.

The parent theme is being optimized right now. Its also being simplified a bit more, tightened and cleaned up. Also its going to become - if possible - even more neutral allowing it to serve as a blank canvas for your own ideas, or at least a nice selling tool where the emphasis remains on your product. You people who've done some child theme work will not be affected (much :D).

In the world of wordpress, there are certain functionalities which make the theme. Widgets, menu options, page templates, etc. Please have a look around some theme selling websites and tell me what sort of features you'd like.

Some things are better added as a specialized plugin (for instance, a front-page slider is better off downloaded somewhere else since there is a real science to those things).

But say you want certain types of hero units, blocks, content separators, more layout options, widgets or "bells and whistles" which make wordpress theme's so much fun...now's the time to mention it.

Good news - this stuff is easy. I can often implement it as fast as you ask for it.

Please be specific. Remember this is a stock-photo theme.

Over and out. Let the ideas begin :D.

Well, I don't know if this is the easy and specific stuff you had in mind:

  • I'd like having the option of visualizing the list image categories with thumbs assignable (explicitly or maybe randomly as an option) to each category and displayed in a grid instead of that list on gray.
  • Cool would be an option of showing image category pages and search result pages in a masonry/tiled/pinterest style. I've tried a few plugins for that but they don't seem to work with the custom type posts of the SY theme.
  • That leads me to suggesting some mechanism for transforming/exporting the custom type posts, i.e. certain aspects such as tumbs, titles, descriptions...., to regular wordpress posts that could be used with a much greater choice of available plugins.
  • Avoiding pagination by an endless scrolling option would be a nice feature. (There might be a plugin for this. I haven't checked or tried, yet.)

Forgive me if that doesn't make sense. I am new to wordpress and its concepts. Sort of a steep learning curve I am on. It's fun, though  8)

Theme forest is a good source of inspiration and good for useful plugins.

Oh this is great! I have so many ideas and things bookmarked from my crazy child theme research binge...I'll try to condense some of the best stuff and post here, thanks for all the hard work Leo!

I don't know this might be crazy off course but one thing I found that I thought was cool was this template for adding an options panel: http://wptheming.com/options-framework-plugin/

I know I saw it on someone's site but I can't find it now. Does anyone know how to make the metaslider expand to fill the browser when you resize?
