The most important aspects of the premium version are well along:

Smarter search and batch editing.

See here:

www.clipartillustration.com/tmp/premium_search_test.swf
www.clipartillustration.com/tmp/batch_editor.swf

[edit: you can test the search on www.clipartillustration.com]

Its very obvious not everyone will be able to afford the premium version. But why have them be left out? Here  are 2 ways you can get the premium version:

  • Purchase the upgrade for 75$. (See planned features below)
  • Refer 2 people to the network (They are valid when they are included on Symbiostock.info
So money is not everything :D Simply adding to the network's growth is of the same value.
Features premium version has in the making (at this point)
  • Improved search.
  • Batch editor.
  • Twitter integration (tweet images, random tweet images daily, network buddy twitter tracking)
  • License management
  • Collections (selling groups of images at discount)
These are the *big* features. There will be others, but these make up the value.

Please note: You can start taking advantage of the referral program now, and have access to the plugin as well as auto-upgrades as I add the features (nightly or every few days, just like the the days of Beta!!!) But I cannot sell it until features are complete.

Since this will be a development/long thread just like the bug stompers we had, I'd like to keep a perminant link to Prang's upgrade as well, so you can keep on top of both of them:

For those of you unaware, the reason why premium search comes as an upgrade and not part of the theme is this:

Wordpress's database (which your search uses in the basic version) is highly complex for wordpress reasons. Its certainly not optimized for search of this nature.

The premium upgrade automatically creates an optimal database made for fast accurate searches, on the criteria the videos show. Also this database is managed with every sort of update you can perform on an image. So its quite a complex feature compared to the native version your sites presently have. Hence the "premium".

edit;

In case you didn't see it on the videos you can optionally set site search defaults to include "titles" or "content" (or both), and between those you can allow search of "word boundaries" or "word parts", making things very flexible.

Search also obeys "rank" so now you can plow through your your portfolio and designate the order of things. And lastly relevance is based on search word occurrences between keywords, title, and content. This is far ahead of what we have now.

Great stuff. Were do we report a referral?

You simply tell us, and the referred person will verify.

We could even make a referrals and initiation thread, much like cascoly's "What are you looking for in a match".

Really it should be fun. I think Symbio's gotten a little too serious lately.

Ok, thanks, And what if we want to keep it private? Or the referree wants to keep it private?

I can see why people would want that anonymity :D

If you want to recruit in Ninja mode you can email me leo [at] symbiostock.com and I can verify with them how they were referred.

I'm trying to incorporate that stuff (as well as font-options on the outside of the theme).

I was reminded of your site when I chose that one :D

That is probably why I like it:)   I have used this one for years as it makes Kerioak look "pretty" especially when I used to print pedigrees

That looks great to me Leo, especially the batch editor will be very, very useful.  What exactly do you mean with license managment ... will that enable us to create an extendend license? Make my day and say YES, please  ;D

Has this plugin now solved the compound word search problem?

Leo - just a thought on the advanced search feature.  When I upgrade how will it interact with anyone in my network that hasn't upgraded?  Will it return no results like the phrase search does now or is there a default to the first word or some other option so it doesn't muck up the network searches?

Plrang and I are trying to set up a nice license system.

I'm getting to it soon, but you will be able to assign any sort of license you want. Also I'm trying to get rid of stuff in the theme relating to "Microstock" or "Royalty free".

I'll avoid explaining and just show everyone once I get it running soon.

Yep! Now it will search for word fragments in your compound words if you want!

It won't hurt anyone. In fact you will be giving the network more accurate results. They won't be affected at all.

I haven't done anything with the default page yet. But I can keep in mind a default page for "no results" if you wish.

I trust that you'll work out what needs to be done to keep the network at it's peak.  My concern was that if I have a lot of people in my network that are not using the upgrade then when someone searches my site using compound keywords they won't see any search results from the rest of the network which would negate some of the benefits of the network.

This is just an update to tell everyone things are well along in the premium version. The twitter integration is going to get LOTS of attention still.

Everyone else testing it seems to have found NO bugs, but instead just a few suggestions.

It seems my little regimen of leaving things to run themselves while I stick to being productive has been quite beneficial.

Here's an update:

Collections are WORKING!

If anyone is curious what they are for or how they work, I can now give a full run-down:

What a collection is for:

Selling a WHOLE SET of images under a "deal" price. Or perhaps you have a specific license that applies to them all. Or perhaps you've done a photo-shoot intended to act as a series. Or maybe like so many illustrators, you have an obnoxiously large supply of humanoids 3d faceless people (guilty) and you have customers with a compulsive need to have the whole set. Thats what collections are for!!!

How it works:

1. Using bulk editor, you assign new "collection" of images, which is technically a unique category.

2. Assign them to a "preview" image, which is an image you create to act as a preview, or just an image you wish to "host" the collection. You must be sure to modify the price, description, and so forth to fully explain the value, etc. (Collections really are gems on your site. You WANT to sell these.

3. Upon assignment of a collection to an image, the image "converts" to a special product which allows the customer to also download associated images upon sale. It shows a list of images being purchased, and has a few areas on the page reminding the customer they will receive a set of images with this sale.

This is a real gem in selling direct :D

After twitter and some license integrations, i'll be releasing this. We still have a way to go. I wanted to release it early, but I think its best if we just stick to the full feature set.
