I just woke up to see three (!) Symbiostock user registrations within a matter of a couple of hours on my site.

I checked my user list in Wordpress and all the info people submitted was their email address. No name, no nothing.

I know that the usual registration process of Wordpress just consists of user name and email address.

But wouldn't it be better for marketing purposes as well, to have at least the name for future promotional campaigns so we can address the registered users by their name to make it more personal?

Is there a plugin for Wordpress to make the user put in a name (I"m sure there is but I can hardy open my eyes right now...)?

Also, 2 of the 3 are coming from Asia and are most likely Spam related. No info on the 3rd one.

Don't you think that it would make the site a little more professional by asking about at least the name of the user instead of looking like some registration (user name + email)?

I have this guy below

New user registration on Hitvectors - Vectors for sale: Username: andrzejuch9 E-mail: [email protected]

I delete this guy, but some days later he come back. It's possible setup some "captcha" resource to avoid this kind of thing?

I got this one too today. Thought is was an actual buyer.  :(
Which makes me wonder how they are getting through to an email and getting a password. I thought they had to fill out name, etc or the registration wouldnt process.

These ones from 02.pl are almost always spam registrations. I added Captcha as a plugin - seems to work well with our theme.

Try this plugin and two others. All works fine, but i want something more obvious. I ask a friend to do a register, but he faced some difficulties.

Also, login/register window maybe needs some redesign. Register option is hidden when window is opened.

These registrations can be easily scripted and don't require any human interactions. Even certain captchas can be handled by machines.

Frustrating for small fish like us who try to make a buck on individual sales and then just get spammed...

Ok, searching for a nice and easy CAPTCHA, i found "SI captcha anti-spam". Easy to setup and very user-friendly.

Awesome, I only have 43 to go until I get a legit one.

I think the spam sign-ups are a great sign. If the spammers can find me, the buyers can find me.

Good way to determine the success of a website.
