Symbiostock is going to coast for a while while the community gets comfortable and invents itself. After a few weeks it will be time to start moving things forward again. Please see the pole above: What would you like to see happen first?

Need a feature / idea added to the pole? Let me know.

More options for layout would be nice, still struggling with that.

I wonder also as I have and probably others have Right managed images if if it was possible to put them on the site then have a form where the customers fill out what he need the picture  for (front page, inside, duration, country) so he can have a quote directly. If course all parameters have to entered by the photographer first?

You might be able to incorporate this http://www.stockartistsalliance.org/pluspacks/index.htm

I would like to see extended licence option but am not going to vote until I have been up and running for a while to see what I would like :)

I think purchased items should not be available for download forever..

downloads must expire after a certain number of hits or days..

I think more like 5 hits / 7 days is good.. after 7 days it expires anyway, even if only 1 hit is used..

so it should be 5 hits and 7 days.. whichever expires first should be in effect.. if the customers click on the download link 5 times in the first day, it expires as soon as the hits are used..

I've been thinking about this request - maybe I am missing something. As the system currently works, once you have an account on my site and you make a purchase, the file moves into your "download area" of your account. There you can download it to your hard drive and use it (for ever at no additional cost). Back on the site, the same image is still available. What is the damage or loss if it stays there indefinitely? I can see some logic for the buyer being able to delete or hide the image once they have downloaded it, especially if they buy a lot of images and the screen gets cluttered, but what is the focus on making this disappear after a few click?

It is in a password protected area of the site visible only to the buyer - if they wanted to share the file with their friends, they already have it and can easily do that without detection.

- it's easier to share the password then setting up links..
- how are we going to detect it? currently we can't see how many hits a download got, or which file sold, or total sales..

that reminded me of another must have feature: "a stats page"

I don't know. I think the present approach is customer friendly - they lose their download, but they can still get it from my site. Engages them more, and doesn't make them feel like I don't trust them.

Steve

this feature can be optional.. it can be turned "on" and "off".. so If you like you can offer the download forever..

and whoever don't like that idea, may choose an expiration limit for their files..

Hey leo, would it be too much trouble in the next testing release or two to include 2 page templates - 1. Fullwidth Page, 2. Page with sidebar.

These would just really help us layout our sites a bit better. Not sure if thats much work? (I didn't think it was, but what do I know!?)

For not native speakers would be great to have that all greetings and  welcome emails filled with default text :)

I have some images i plan to sell as editorial, so i'd like to have checkbox "editorial image" in edit page and some kind of info for user, maybe somewhere near price box.

That would be awesome. I hope eventually translation could be worked in. BTW as people mention these things I'm adding them. Feel free to change your choices.

another suggestion...

In the admin section, how about an option of appending certain text to every image slug. For instance, some might want to add "stock-photo" to every image, without having to type it in manually. So we could have a text box to enter what we want into, and then it appends that data to every image upon upload/process?

There are different ways you might do this -

You mean the actual file name? Thats 20 minutes of work for me.

Or appending something to the title? Another 10 minutes :D.

Or the slug in the URL? Also possible.

I'm just trying to think of SEO benefits. Having "Stock Photo" at the end might be helpful, as do most of the agencies.

So I guess it would need to be added to the Title AND the slug in the URL. The actual file name shouldn't matter I wouldn't think.

What are your thoughts? Worth it?

Its such a small implementation its not really worth putting up on the pole there - I could probably do it right after I'm done setting up my own network site tonight. I'll make it an option in the settings.

wow, brilliant! Thanks Leo!

Any thoughts on the two page templates I mentioned above? Nothing fancy, just a full width one and one that includes the sidebar?

We should be able to remove votes and re-vote I think..

I would have voted for download expiration.. so would many other people I believe..

It's not that low in priority level..

some other areas for customizing:

Customer Licence and File Management Area  -->> shopping cart

paypal button "get licences" -->> buy now
(get rid of british version of English!)

I'm thinking of this site as having a broader customer base - people who aren't designers and don't have files to manage, so would like to keep the vocabulary more similar to other retail sites

Is there an option in the settings to add stock-photo at the end of every file name?

Yesterday, before I uploaded my photos, I renamed them with stock-photo at the end. But after they were uploaded, the stock-photo got dropped off and the permalink does not show it.
