where is the 'download area'???

since I haven't gotten that far I don't know what SHOULD happen -- the payment is processed ok, and both sides get the proper email, but there is NO info to either side about how to download

I just checked the email I got from Crackerclips test purchase - it directs you to the download page. You know - customer area? I think we just need a billboard flashing GET IMAGE HERE in a few areas. Anyway  - it is working.

I did ask a question in this thread, i think, but really never got an answer. Does SY now only work with paypal premier account or will it work with personal account too?

This isnt a thread, Leo, about learning how to use paypal. I am trying to find out how to get my site to work, and now someone has thrown the "you must have paypal premier" into the mix. You built the theme...do i absolutely have to have paypal premier in order for it to work?

You need to keep two things in mind...one, not everyone using SY is a code genius...in fact, most of us are photographers first. Second, some us work another job and cant read every single thing that gets posted.

My site was working, then it wasnt. I want to know what needs to be done to get it working properly again. Thats all.

After someone has paid Paypal (usually) returns them to the same page they confirmed they agreed to terms and hit the Pay Now button.  The image to be downloaded appears with a link below the pay now button.

(this is why you don't want people all logging in and paying with the same details on your guest account, anyone else who visits will also be able to download that image for free)

Can someone give me the sum-up of this thread? Is it a bug thread, gunuine issues with the theme, or just learning how to do paypal?

It sounds like you are being a wiseass. See my actual question above regarding the theme and paypal. Let me rephrase it...does SY only work with a paypal business account? I think thats a legitimate question.

Hi Cathy,

Purely my opinion

Symbiostock will work with any paypal account

BUT

If you want to make it easy for client so they return to the download page to get their newly licensed image (instead of having to hunt for it or wait for email and find the link) you need a Premier OR Business account as you cannot, as far as I can see, create a return to pay/download page with a personal account.

Hope this helps

After i make a purchase, on paypal, there is my email link in the receipt. I click that. It takes me back to the customer license/download page. There is my image to download. That is with a personal account. I have never had to wait for an email or find a link. I dont know how much easier it could be. It would be nice if instead of that email, it said return to download page or something. But i think others have requested that already.

If you have Paypal return (for lack of anything else to call it) you will automatically be taken straight to the download page once you have finished paying, so you don't have to leave your browser to go and find an email, then find and click on the link in the email to go back to your browser.  It just takes a couple of steps out and makes it easier for customer.

I think Cathy is right - I have my paypal set up like this as well. Once you have completed the purchase, you see a link on the Paypal page that says "return to [email protected]" on my page. Clicking that link takes you to the customer download area of your site. With a Premier account you can bypass that bit and go automatically to the download area.

So you are saying with premier, there is no clicking the link in paypal. As soon as the transaction completes, it auto goes back to download. That would be more convenient, but as it is for me now doesnt seem too inconvenient. The customer getting the password email to buy seems like a much bigger issue.

It can be set up to do that, yes. I don't at the moment because of the double website sharing the same paypal account.

You are not supposed to have a personal account when you do business. Its no laughing matter. PayPal will start asking questions when they see you are taking business transactions on a personal account.

I have been receiving payments from agencies for YEARS now with a personal account. If the business acct doesnt cost anything i will be happy to get one. If paypal needs to start taking a percentage of my sales like an agency, then i might have to come up with a different solution.

Let me beat you all to the punch...how utterly unprofessional of me and its amateurs like me that ruin it for everybody!  ;)

By the way, i am fairly certain paypal decides when i am receiving too many payments and makes me move to a business acct. there was a discussion about this on this board. At work so if u dont believe you will need to search yourself. I am on an iad and at work. If i remember later, i will see if i can dig it up.
Maybe because you are in the US they might be more lenient. In Europe PayPal is a bank and if you take business transactions on a personal account you they will ask you to upgrade and they will take fees. Or they upgrade you. All money processors take a fee for business payments. Since you are a business. If you want to take CC payments without using a PSP then you need to be PCI compliant which costs you money as well. There is no such thing as free stuff when running a business.

I don't remember ever saying that using paypal was free. I asked if opening a premier account cost money and was told no. I have used paypal for years. I kinda know what transactions are going to cost me money, and which are not. Paypal is a money processor and does not take a fee from my payments from the agencies. They do take a fee for other transactions. Both are business payments. So some ARE free (for me), some are not.

You said paypal does not take a fee from agency payments but it does..

It's paid by the agencies.. paypal takes a fee from every single transaction.. there is no exception..

Who pays the fee differs depending on the transaction.. it's sometimes the sender and sometimes the receiver..

With your SY sales you will be the one to pay.. thus the premier account itself is free but you pay  a fee per sale..

All accounts are free to open with PayPal.

As for payments from the agencies, they pay using Mass Payments, and then you dont have to pay a fee. As soon as the agency is going to pay you through a regular transaction, you will pay PayPal a fee over your earnings.

You seem a bit edgy with people who do not agree with you or who dont answer you immediately. I am just trying to help.

In addition to my previous comment, you pay  fees on a personal account as well, difference is when you send money from a personal account you can choose who pays the fees. On a business account the receiver always pays the fees.

As for personal accounts, you cant take credit or debit card payments on a personal account. So you are cutting out a lot of potential customers.

I have said that so many times already, maybe not in this thread. Agencies use mass payments and pay a fee, but its much lower then paying fees on single transactions. By the way, if agencies start paying us individually we pay the fees.

On a business account the receiver always pays the fees unless its money from a mass payment. Paying with a PP account is free. Unless you choose to pay the fee yourself which is only possible on a personal transaction or personal account.

Well, what you said was exactly what I meant.. just didn't bother to go into as much detail as I am on a mobile phone right now and it's not my favourite device for typing :)

So yes, I agree, the person who makes the payment never pays unless it's a mass payment or he/she chooses to  pay..

Thanks for the lessons on paypal. I already knew all of that. But i do take credit and debit payments with my personal account so not sure why you are trying to teach me something that is incorrect. I appreciate the help, but dont remember asking for an explanation on how paypal works. Leo made a statement in one of his posts about how the paypal ipn was definitely interfering with emails. My questions about paypal are only in regards to how it might be causing problems with emails. Period.

I have spent many hours working on this site. It was reported to be stable and out of beta. I finally start getting registrations and a sale and boom...major stuff doesnt work right. Edgy? Yeah, you could say that. But never fear. With this post i am going to bow out of this conversation. I am mostly trying to get my site working again. When the bugs are ironed out of the latest version releases, i will try an update. But it seems like one thing gets added and it breaks five other more important things.

I really should have waited until the bugginess was all gone.  :-\

Cathy, you are correct https://www.paypal.com/ie/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=xpt/Marketing/general/PayPalAccountTypes-outside

The info on ebay seems outdated.

Other than that, I am also done with this thread. Good luck, hope all the bugs get sorted for you if it affects you that much.

please name the 5 important things you refer to?  the paypal problems have been there from the start and like all interfaces among several pieces of software, they're difficult to track down and replicate.

here we have users with unknown browsers interacting with wp on many different hosts, and trying to interface with paypal.

that last statement is flat out WRONG -- since version 2 came out there haven't been 5 major problems in the entire program, much less one new release creating that many -- progress with every release has been forward
