OK, so I have defined a page I created as my home page that is supposed to contain an image slider.

However, I'm having the hardest time to make any slider work (using short code for example).

Anyhow, could someone here roughly outline how they set up their image slider? I think that would help me already. I'm just poking around in the dark.

I got one to work but only when I hard code it into the actual php file (I cannot get the short codes working for some reason). I know it's suboptimal and I want to do it right from the beginning. My front page is set to "Home Page CTAs" as the slider has to cover the width of the entire site (using a 1 column design).

Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

Can I just use the short code for that or I also have to add the php code to my template?

I used the short code provided by the plugin, it is easy just add it into your home page.

I am using ML slider.

I set it up as a widget and put it in my home page above content postion

If you are new to Wordpress, there is a lot of power in the widgets.

Ok I finally figured it out. Have been dealing with Wordpress for years but always got the creeps when it came to customizing it, because I want to customize EVERYTHING.

So sometimes I get so frustrated that I start raping the actual php files and cram the code in there just to have it. With the next update my changes are gone LOL. Talk about Karma.

I did have to Google some installation tutorials and found a very helpful hint:

When adding the short code, don't paste it into the "Visual" text field. You have to paste it into the "Text" text field. I always got extra line breaks that completely messed up my design, spend countless hours going through CSS because of this. I could cry. Well, lesson learned.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I'm using Meteor Slides right now and it works fine.

I am not a code guy...but isn't using a child theme supposed to solve this?

Of course it is. I've never worked with child themes before and learning this now from scratch is really an eye opener.

Finally I got this issue sorted out - with the help of everyone who replied. Thanks so much!
