Here's an open question to Veer:

Don't you think it's time that the keyword system was replaced?

I mean if you put in unusual keywords for unusual subjects then it's impossible to find images. Even more common subjects I usually find I have to compromise on keywords to even have a chance of the image being found.

Why do Veer hobble themselves this way? Should there not be a more flexible approach to key wording?

Also why is it that you can only search on "keyword relevancy" or price hi to low/low to high?

Why not allow searches on "most recent" or popularity? All of the other agencies do.

Well no response so I just can't see my self wasting time uploading images which will never ever be found

I wanted to pop in and let you know that we aren't ignoring this question. I wanted to make sure I was able to discuss this with the keywording team.

The short response is that the Veer system has limitations. This is not an unknown thing by all of you. Some of these it shares with other controlled vocabularies like Getty or CorbisImages, some of them it doesn’t. We are aware of these shortcomings, and we do have queries and processes in place to monitor what searches our customers are using that are returning zero results, and we do our best to respond accordingly.

The relevancy search encompasses many factors, which includes the popularity of a term or the newness of a term.

We’re working to improve the vocabulary tools we use currently; hopefully this will increase our ability to support search going forward.

Thanks for coming back, the trouble is with controlled vocab is that if you have any image that doesn't fit then it will never be found and it makes your buyers jump thru mental hoops to try and find the images they want.

Getty/iStock use the same system and it's a real clunker. So yes you can find all sorts of western images of burgers coffee people in business suits etc but any images from outside the west (Asia/Pacific Africa etc) immediately hit the buffers if they use un-recognized keywords.
