Title: Anybody still contributing to the membership video library?
Post by: helloitsme on December 25, 2019, 22:55
If so, how's the earnings?  I see a few people contributing several thousand clips.  I hope they take their clips down from any subscription/membership sites.  It's bad for all of us creators.

I've actually scaled way back.  They seem to have gotten a bit too picky as to what they take.

My game plan was to occasionally shoot specifically for the VB membership pool.  I did a few political shots thinking that 2020 would see a need for them -- shots like pro-Trump banners, pro-whoever-the-democtratic-candidate-is, and they rejected them for being a "too saturated" topic.

Too saturated?  There are that many pro or anti Trump 2020 clips already?  Or pro or anti Bernie or Warren or Buttigieg 2020?  Doubtful.  If anything, they should be requesting more of these.

So I stopped to regroup my strategy -- especially since when I'm producing a batch of clips specifically for them.

They do have a requested topic list on their portal, but many of the topics are either too difficult or abstract to spend time shooting.

french polynesia? lamborghini? dublin?

While I'll probably still look at this list occasionally and get ideas from some of their suggestions, I really don't want an assignment at this point.

That's too much like a "job."

Can anyone contributing there shed some light on what they earn on average? I wouldn't ever contribute, but I've always wondered how big their revenue pool is and what you can expect.

Average for the last half of 2019, about $235 a month... average for 2020, about $425 a month. They've sent out emails saying they've increased the revenue pool four times since they moved over to just the membership library, but nobody knows how big that pool is or how many it's shared between, so not all that transparent.

Thank you for your insightful post!

Okay, what is the "membership video library"?

It's just their name for the unlimited subscription programme. Bit like Envato Elements and Motion Array. They used to have an unlimited subscription and a regular marketplace for individual downloads (with content that wasn't in the subscription), but they ditched the regular marketplace.

Can you tell me the size of your portfolio, please?

Thanks.

I find your earnings very good considering the size of your portfolio.
I have the same earnings in Adobe Stock with 6K videos :(

I make less at Adobe... about $70 a month this year and $120 a month last year. It's mainly all animation stuff, so it takes a while to make and render, which is why I haven't got a massive portfolio, but the sales seem to be higher than live action content. On average anyway.

Just saw your portfolio. Your animations are great!

I took down my portfolio at Storyblocks when they introduced the new membership program. I wasnīt too happy with the 50% cut and the low sales already... AS and P5 didnīt took off after that. I am afraid I might have done the wrong move, considering your statistics.

Doing pretty well there and rising every month.  Like most here, I was pretty skeptical at the announcement of their new model, but decided to give them a few months to prove themselves. Still not crazy about the lack of transparency, but my earnings numbers speak for themselves.

Is it for everyone?  No, but what agencies are these days?
