For the past five years, weve been hard at work trying to marry the needs of our members and contributors with the Marketplace. Our vision was simple: contributors get 100% of what they earn, and our members get great content at a fair price.

But for our members, this was anything but simple. Understanding what did and didnt come with their subscription was complicated. It restricted their ability to play freely within projects, and we received overwhelming feedback that the Marketplace wasnt for them. At the same time, we tried balancing the needs of contributors with price increases and Marketplace visibility improvements.

We knew we could do better.

Thats why Storyblocks is proud to announce the launch of the Member Library Partner Program! Its easy to understand. Its unrestrictive. And its all in support of the Storyblocks mission: Helping a new generation of independent creatives to create more moving stories. Its a great way for contributors to reach a new market of storytellers full of YouTube creators, freelance editors, and hobbyists. And its an opportunity for our members to tell their stories without a big Hollywood production budget.

What is the Member Library Partner Program? Instead of paying for clips a la carte in the Marketplace, our members pay for a subscription to access content in our Member Library. We then create a Member Library Earnings pool, which we divide among all contributors who participate in the program based on how much of their content is downloaded.

You can learn more about how the Member Library Earnings pool is calculated here.

Over the past eight months, weve been piloting the Partner Program and have proven that it can work for everyone: contributors, members and Storyblocks! Contributors on average are making 3x the amount that they ever earned through the Marketplace, and over 90% have chosen to stay in the Pilot Program.

The best part? Anyone can apply to join, theres no commitment period, and your content remains non-exclusive so you can keep earning everywhere else you distribute content. If you try the Partner Program and arent happy with your earnings, you can leave anytime. Its your content, and you should be able to earn any way you can.

Starting today, our focus will be the Partner Program and we want you to share in its success! To learn more and apply, check out the details on our site.

VERY VERY STUPID if you participate - because not only will you canabalize your own sales - but it will affects your assets on OTHER agencies as THEY go into the race to the bottom... Then it becomes more or less how much can "churn" out - and only portfolios with say 20,000+ clips will really see the sales they want... or EXTREMELY unique and DESIRABLE content (which, is unlikely for most people).

I am more a visual guy than reading text TLDR and I just saw the picture in the email.

Translation:

Dear George

In the picture above you can see two people helping each other to the top, please do not consider or identify yourself with them, they are actually us and customers.

You are the lonely branch waving by the wind among thousand of others to the bottom of the hill and the whole frame.

:P :D

This is a race to the bottom and that is why I am going Exclusive with Pond5!  I would like to see some real numbers on this! How much are people really making? anyone care to be honest?  Here It Is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3Fqmkew9T8&t=25s

Actually I want to read more from people who opt in (if there r any). Such as: number of clips in their portfolio, the number of downloads (monthly), an average pay per downloaded clip..etc

trucic u said u have a small port in their library ...tell us more (how many, how much did they paid u, average per clip...etc)
For example i have a small port on pond5 membership library, 300 clips and they pay me monthly between 75$ and 100 $. Clips that never sold on any agency, and I am happy with those $$ monthly.

They used to be good, even with the 50-50 I was ok.  But this is just sad.
9000 clips live. One sale this month.
Happy with SS,P5,Adobestock and the very very surprising Vimeo stock (good solid sales, great team).

It will depend on results, but this means this will become a very different marketplace. Outtakes, lower quality clips etc...I really cant imagine that people who invests thousands in a shooting will get a decent reward.

However...please everyone keep in mind that pond5 has a member library where you have no clue how often the files are actually selling and at what price. If you had that data and compare it with a program like this you might be surprised what is really going on.

I like pond5 too, but many artists are ignoring that their member library has over 400 000 files and is a major attraction for buyers looking for extremly cheap stuff.

Nobody has to join this program, but it is unfortunatly not the first place with low prices.

I believe that the market will sort it out. Anyone who invests in production will keep those files where they can have a respectable minimum and those who just walk around and take some shots will spread it anywhere, including storyblocks.

If there are no sales, the volume wont come. Nobody wastes time on uploading if you just make 60 cents. All the marketplaces with low returns have little content.

I got some few months ago, for a tryout... you consider your return on P5 is generous(compared to SB MS)... few times higher then on SB with similar number of files...

Pond5 membership is different...you pay for a limited number of clips...at storyblocks you pay a monthly fee and you can download the whole library then stop buying stock footage because you have all you need...does it makes sense?? Not to mention all the people that can download your clips crop and color correct and resell it...
Think twice before join it...

It all sounds good until you see that it is mostly a free for all that will get lower price per clip as more artists join. The pilot program produced good results probably because the sample size was small. If a few thousand join then expect pennies per clip as the pie is split more and more. The only way this could work is by limiting the clip number like SS and other subscriptions work. Want more you pay more and while some will use their full numbers, most clients will download much less than what their plan produced making it workable. In the pricing table below you can see that a 5 limit is set at the $19 level but becomes a buffet at the two other packages which may mean pennies/download. I want to see more numbers and projections from SB that really show what you can expect. They should have kept the old model and gotten a cut of 50% then all would be good without hiding the marketplace.

I have photos on 2020 that changed their model from single image sale to subs pack where how much I earn depends on how much clients used their subscription that month. I dont think they have an unlimited plan, but they have very generous packages.

So far my average per download has gone up.

The risk of people stealing my files and uploading has been around for 15 years. I had two cases with photos and both got resolved quickly with the agencies. It can always happen.

I think if the artist can dial in individual files selectively, then I can see a dynamic marketplace developping.

But to only offer an all in plan cannot really work because not all content is produced at the same cost level.

But the video market is not a high volume market. So the old business model in photo stock cannot simply be copied.

Like I said, I doubt they will get lots of high quality content. If it is all or nothing the uploads for good quality will drop.

At 2020 they indeed have an unlimited photos plan that starts at 29 dollars a month (Or 89 dollars for shorter subscription).

On average I make a round 2-4 dollars per photo sale.

And at least so far nobody has downloaded my entire port of 800 files.

They have had the plan for 3 (?) months now.

I get 10 - 20 downloads a month.

I think the biggest downside for 2020 is that you cannot upload your releases and a lot of content is riddled with logos etc...so serious enterprise buyers will probably stay away unless they clean up their collection.

On Videoblocks the content has inspections and many people have excellent content there.

But I really dont see how people can opt in thousands of files without selective control.

So I dont think this program will be attractive for the pros.
