I made $1.75 in 6 months at Canstock (and several hundred elsewhere, so it's not my photography).  So, I spent 20 minutes of my life--20 minutes I'd like to get back--deleting images just so I could close my bloody account.

Bye bye Canstock.  It wasn't nice knowing you.

and i was just about to say how they seem to be picking up :)

I managed to make a sale every day for the last 5 days... granted I still have only had 1 payout in the last 2.5 or so years there.  Consdering I make easily 1 payout on every other major site... their track record isn't too strong.

Obviously not too big of a loss for you.  I think i'll hang on a little longer.

Only place I do worse is FeaturePics. For some reason, I'll make 3-4 sales in a row, then nothing for weeks.

I had a look at my statistics there. Looks like a great ski-slope, starting in March. Unfortunately, that's not my purpose with my presence there   :(

CanStockPhoto is also very disappointing for me.  Just one sale this month.  After 1 1/2 years I haven't reached half of a pay-out yet...

I had an upload problem this week (keyword and categories suggestion not working), reported it, nothing really happened.  And the people more active in the forum also have that "it's all so wonderful" attitude, I don't even bother discuss anymore.

Adelaide

Ah you mean Bennym, the hurrayh firefighter on CanStockPhoto with 1,000,000+ forum posts ;-)
It's a robot decoy of Duncan of course :-p
I'm 7$ away from my 1st payout, after 2 years and 2 months. Sometimes 3 weeks nothing sold, then the same shot 3 times in a row...

It will be hard to say goodbye, since it was the very first stock site that accepted me. I will still keep 1 photo online to use the keyword suggester to enhance my tags. I'm bad ;-)

I don't blame you, that's the main reason I am staying with them. Like you, they were the first site that accepted me, and I made a sale on my first day. I have had 2 payouts - they lowered the payout to $50 for paypal.

Rarely visit their forums.

Bennym is one, but there are others.  I remember an argument with Photoshow, he is so arrogant and likes to put down people like me with a smaller portfolio.

They were my fourth site, I think.  It's a site I don't see improving.  Image quality isn't that awesome either.  Pity.

Adelaide

I don't upload to CanStock any more, and late last month I deleted from CanStock my best sellers on other sites. I was tired of the bargain basement subscription sales making up about half of my downloads.

I figure that I don't have much to loose leaving the images up there until the next payout (another $20 to go) as long as I cut out the bestsellers at cheap prices.

I don't think Photoshow's on CS any more - not sure why he left. I've had images at CanStock for almost 3 years, and it's a shame that they just haven't been able to get any traction in improving sales.

Do we can say the same for 123RF, because I just started there to check if there was some money to make there? At this time it's seem to be the no man's land...

123rf is another story. Much more professional (a part of Inmagine), better (but not great) sales, and .036 for subscription sales.

It's true that 123rf has better sales than CanStock, but they are (a) very weak compared to other sites and (b) in spite of 2 "relaunches" they seem to be bumping along in the basement rather than making any sort of forward progress.

I started with 123rf in June 2005 (i.e. this isn't a case of just give them a few more months to get going). I don't upload there regularly (last did a catch-up batch in late spring/early summer) any more.

It generates a reasonable if small flow of income, but if someone new were considering uploading there I'd probably say it wasn't worth their effort. Given the overall return is boosted a bit by the credit sales (from the 36 cents subscriptions), it's not so bad.

The keyword suggester is obviously not made by CanStockPhoto but some Open Source or freeware thesaurus, like I added one (for spellcheck) to my tagging program. Does anyone on here knows what thesaurus it is? I would Google for it myself, but I'm on a feeble dial-up modem from the stone age in the Mindanao jungle now ;-)

I have had 4 months of improved sales with 123rf.  Not far off the minimum payout each month now.  It isn't great compared to the big sites but a nice bit of extra money for the same photos.

Same here - last 4 months 123 has done well. Number 1 last month and currentl 2nd this month. Stead subscriptons sales with frequent .80-1.00 sales. Occassional ELs

And I'm not sure the keyword checker is not custom to CS. I think it takes words from the title and description, does a standard search using those words, the pulls the keywords from the images it finds.

Sure you could do the same thing by googling or putting each word in a thesaurus, but this is a one click solution.

I think I am really lucky to c this post before I sold any of my image in Canstock, I upload most of my photos about 10 days ago, but none of them has been approved until today, and now I saw this post, so I decide to say bye to Canstock too, good luck to any of you in Canstock.

They have been OK for me so far. I have 25 approved (they only allow 25 to begin with) and have had 2 sales this week. Hopefully that ratio will continue when my other 200 get approved.  ;)

I also deleted my account at Canstock last week. Not much was happening there.
