Hello Lee,

Could you elaborate here on what images you are looking for, what you will most likely accept and what are your policies on similars, color versions, etc. Basically, what does Canva want, what dont you want (images with text, etc), what will you reject and what will you accept.

Reason I am asking is because I see images I thought were a certainty to get in being rejected, and images I thought would never get in are accepted ;)

Thanks
Ron

This will answer most of your questions:  https://support.canva.com/hc/en-us/articles/203705754

The first line there covers the reason most images are rejected.  We're still rolling out our new higher-quality standards to reviewers so they'll continue to be inconsistent for a while.

I recommend you don't invest too much time trying to understand us yet.  We're still small and still changing rapidly.  :)

"Photos need to be well shot with commercially usable content and current styling."

What that tells people? We know all agencies want that. Not any exceptional info here. I don't see any detail helping. I tried twice showing you different work and still don't understand what are your needs. Even if I'd change my style in future (it's natural like trends come and go), I don't know what you preffer to be presented for your needs.

I still hope images with text can be put in a collection rather than removed as looking at my sales, the Canva buyers love them.

Like everyone else, we don't like similars.  And like with everyone else, it's not in your interests to upload a loose edit (lots of similars).

It's difficult to launch into too much detail given the variety of imagery we like.  We're slightly more tolerant on technical issues than other agencies, and substantially less tolerant on visually weak imagery.

A useful exercise, if you're confused about what we're seeking, is this:  bring up your own portfolio sorted by popularity, and 9 others from the same agency.  Include 4 or 5 of the best selling portfolios and 4 or 5 ones you think are weak.  Flip through them while sitting back from your screen.  Notice the differences.  Notice what's common about the top selling ones.  They'll have differences between them in style, but there'll be commonalities in clarity (of message, not focus), impact, usability, commercial appeal.  When you can notice the differences between yours and the top-selling ones, then you know what you need to work on.

I hope that helps.  If I've rejected you, please feel free to reply back to me and ask for details.  A lot of people already do that and I think it's a smart way to deal with the rejection.

Yeah.  Some people don't bother with the minutia of how Canva operates because they're busy producing content and focusing on how to improve their quality.  Just saying that that seems like a wiser option at this time.  :)

They may be among the best sellers of your portfolio, but that doesn't mean they "love" them.  It's all relative, remember.  ;)

I already did, long time ago, before this thread. I got reply but I still didn't get any details which could help me know what you are looking for. But as you said...

The above plus three rejections (applied twice plus email contact) is enough for me to stop trying again. However my friends (who don't know english that well) are still asking me what they should prepare to show you. I have no idea what to tell them...

Ariene, why not spending less time whining in almost every thread on MSG on how bad this business is  and how agencies are not worth your time?  Focus on improving your skills or find some other thing to do that will make you happy.
As far as Canva goes I appreciate Lee's patience to respond to all those pieces of "good advice" or even imposing what Canva should do, how ought to review etc..
