Hello,

I am thinking about creating my first own website/homepage.
Any suggestions, where I should do it nowadays?
There are so many.
Of course I would like upload as many possible, but if there is a limit and the CEO is good or any other thing, then I would start with that limited one.

After building that website, I want to concentrate on social medias too.

Or should I do it the other way around? first social media, then own website?

I do not want to pay anything in the beginning.

I forgot to explain:

My intention is to get traffic from the website to my POD-sites, secondary to Stocksites like pond5 and Alamy (maybe Zoonar and photocase).

Good luck!
I've been working on a WordPress site (on my own webspace, which I was already paying for anyway. (Wordpress has a free offering, but you get ads you can't control) - after a flurry of posts for a couple of weeks to get content up I'm now doing a post a day, not as a blog, just as a website. I have no idea how to get traffic onto my site, though, and I was hoping to use it to drive traffic to my Pixels (FAA) site. No point in posting on Fb, my friends and acquaintences there aren't buyers, and I don't want to annoy them. I'm not sure buying ads is much good, from the experience of others which I've heard or read. Not claiming my site is any good; but whether it is or isn't is irrelevant I'm not getting visitors. To be honest, I'm losing interest, and am already recycling some early posts.  :-[
Of course, YMMV, especially if you already have some 'qualified buyers' that you know about.

https://www.bludomain.com/ Try out these guys. Very nice self editable web sites and very affordable. Over the years I have purchased 3 templates to keep my site up and with the times as for features. I recommend them for ease of use and acceptable customer service albeit not always great.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND  them to host your site or managing your domain name and the renewal of the domain name. For this they get a FAIL from past personal experience. They completely dropped the ball with my wife and she lost a very unique domain name that is now owned by some other company. She completely lost her .com designation but was able to rebrand with a .ca but what a frcking nightmare.

That said, purchase a template only and pay the extra $$$ to do so if you have to, then you will get a very nice site for very reasonable price. Register your own domain, and host it anywhere but with Bludomain.

I'd echo the free Wordpress for zero money. For the paid option I would suggest our very own Dallas PRice of Bestwebsiteandhosting dot com for the most affordable and hands-on hosting provider. I have been there for years now and Dallas is the most pro-active host owner you can have. He's also a microstocker and active member here.

Tell him I sent you, and he will let you in anyway. :)

Thanks for your ideas and experiences.

Yes, wordpress was in my mind, too. I was only afraid I might missing something else. Lets see, what others will tell. but seems like wordpress should be a good start.
And yes, getting traffic to wordpress is indeed another, if not the most important question.

also there's an automatic form of WP that creates the site for you, eliminating the learning curve .

I've used IONOS 101 for websites & handling my domains - excellent tech support.

getting anyone to your site remains the most difficult p[art - for most of us, the agencies are the only practical way to earn.

i've been on FAA for several years, and actual sales there are dim also, so not sure about spending a lot to drive traffic there.

Yes, I still have no great plan to get traffic to my website. and that is definetly the most important thing.
So, I am curious if I might better try pinterest instead?

what are your goals?  if you're not going to drive traffic to your agency/FAA portfolios (a questionable idea) posting to free sites is just competing with your other portfolios (altho serious buyers are not likely to follow pinterest)

pinterest - free site?
I thought it is similar to facebook and instagram to find people viewing your photos and with a direct link to the POD site, they MIGHT click on it and buy.

If you submit to Adobe Stock, you have free access to Adobe Portfolio. It's a very user-friendly, fully hosted, customizable site you can build your web page on.

Nice to see that Mat still can make jokes LOL
Own website - not searching for an agency anymore.
Traffic to my website, then links to my POD and maybe few better stocksites, but that we can forget now after Adobe and Alamys new exciting way. Well, I try to get customers from my website to my pond5 portfolio, where they can buy mostly cheaper than on other websites (if no subscription) and I will get more for myself (50% in case of photos).

If you have a PS/LR or any other CC subscription,  you also have access to Adobe Portfolio.
Downside is you'd lose it if you gave up the subscription.

Mind you, I'd likely lose my WordPress site if I changed my host - I haven't looked into that.
