I just came on a site that is new to me. Freepik. Are they part of or a sub of  Shutterstock ? When you go to their site Shutterstock comes up in their rate packages.

Yes, they are their own agency and at the same time, very direct collaborators with SS. Probably from the most important direct collaborators of SS.

Affiliate site, they promote for referrals, mostly illustrations, I don't see any Editorial, and when I search for different images that I know are photos, with specific words, nothing is found.

Not a part of SS, and affiliate site on their own. https://www.shutterstock.com/explore/affiliates

Also API marketing site, "partners".  https://developers.shutterstock.com/partners

Any time I see people discussing this scummy operation I feel compelled to remind everyone that they started out by stealing illustrations and offering them for free, including dozens of my illustrations, which they gave away for years. Theyre common thieves who for some reason are still allowed to be SS affiliates despite the fact that I reported them to SS for their thefts.

We must open a thread about this agency, expose the comments, tests and ideas. Thanks to this thread and another one that is current, I have changed my mind, I planned to register, not anymore, and now I only think that it should be known and left in sight, because uploading images there, is something that hurts us all. It is not about free advertising to the agency, rather of fighting for our interests. In addition, a list of agencies to avoid. A list always available.

We must fight against them and inform people who could be tempted to subscribe to compensate the loss elsewhere. They DO NOT respect the authors but the money they make quickly by killing the market.

Yes, and there are too many sites like this, that desperate people will upload to.

Yes, and there are too many sites like this, that desperate people will upload to.
Freepik differs from those sites in two ways:
1) they pay contributors $0.11 - less than any other sites.
2) they really do sell - like Shutterstock was in 2007, and I know photographers who earn more from Freepik than from Shutterstock. And this attracts contributors.

"How is the payment per download calculated?

This is how your commission from premium subscriptions would work:

At the end of each day, we would calculate the total amount of subscription fees and calculate the "per diem" subscription amount. Then we would calculate the total number of downloads.

The total daily subscription average would be divided by the number of downloads to calculate the "per illustration" price for that day. That number would be multiplied by 0.5 to calculate the 50% rate. The price per illustration might change on a daily basis, according to our calculations.

Can I deactivate my account?

Yes as a contributor you can deactivate your account whenever you want but just be aware that once you deactivate your account the content published will still be active at Freepik for minimum 1 year and all payments will be deactivated with the account."

Cheap unlimited downloads!  >:(
We should stay away from such sites!

So you lose payments for a year after you close you account and your images are still listed for a year. Maybe I misread?  If correct kinda like being in the mafia....

You cannot compare Freepik and Shuterstock.
Free things will always attract traffic as they are giving it for free.
Even if you go through their website, they do not have any proper licensing terms. One premium license gives you all commercial use, seriously?

And as mentioned above, the payment per download is also not specific. Once they start getting more contributors and downloads, the payment will decrease as per the calculation.
$0.11 is the calculated formula amount and its the maximum one can get with complete commercial usage. There is nothing like enhanced license which let you earn $28 per download or more in other agencies.

I am a sea of doubts. It seems that there are happy people charging money. It seems to be true. The numbers that are handled here only serve if there are no new users premium customers. If the supply grows and the demand also, if free it is optional and on files of smallest size. If there are manuals to download files for free, those users will never buy a file.

Apparently they have their own photography and design equipment, which I don't like. But it is clear that they have a large business, the question is whether it is only for them, or is it really the fashion agency.

They started with indirect indexation and decided to be an agency and with advertising and traffic, it generates benefits that they do not share. OKAY.

I still have many doubts. The new SS, can be a slogan of pure marketing, or not. In the end, I will have to check my doubts inside.

Spanish video. Photographer praising this agency as the biggest surprise of the year. The summary of the year.

I hope anyone who comes here and reads this, understands how bad that is, if it isn't just a poor response. Minimum of one year, all payments deactivated? That's the worst I've ever seen.

it will only take you what? like 5 minutes. You are a designer after all.

Seriously?

"You get invited to a nice dinner. Good food, great conversations. Nothing seems to be wrong until your hosts ask you to help their 8-year-old son with his art project. Because, you know, "you are a designer after all." Has this ever happened to you?"

No wonder why 399.757 people follow them! So many designers that want to help children! :P

How are the sales on freepik? More money than shutterstock?

I joined because some photographers praised it. The whole month showed that I earn 0.10 for picture and in the end of the month it just dropped to 0.04 and my pay was cut over 50%...Like really?? They lost my respect, I don't have time to work for 0.04 cents. At this point they have to prove to me if they are worth my time.

I joined to see what all the fuss was about. The amount of pay is estimated. But still the worst part is the proof of residence form, for the US, that costs $85 and has to be renewed every two years. Otherwise Freepik, by law in Spain will take 24%.

Basic math tells me, I have to make $42.50 before I'm breaking even at FP. Plus they say the form must be filed with them, every year. While the IRS says the form is good for two years.

I chose to pay the 24% until I see that I'm making over $42.50 a year. Otherwise, it will cost me money, to make anything less. Or a more realistic personal view, I'm not paying for a tax form, when I'll never make anything from Freepik. If you close your account and don't have enough for a payout, they keep your money.

I am from EU and they also want it from me, but it looks kind of complicated to get, so I have not filed it. At this rate I will make my first payout in about 3 years :P.

I actually have exclusive content there because I want to see how it turns out. But only 253 photos. At these prices, I don't want to be unfair to other agencies.

But your photos aren't free on Freepik?
