Hy there,

I thought of starting a topic who can motivate the people without talents and not only. People who are following the first instinct on making random outdoor shots could be motivated by this one too. So how this should be going?
Write your opinion (based on your experience) on how many images you need to have accepted per day on SS, followed by the number of images you must already have in your portfolio on SS for your predicted earnings per month and last of course, the earnings per month you think you'll make with random shots on SS if you respect the numbers mentioned before.

For example: 10 APD (accepted per day) -> 6000 PORT (Portfolio) = $1000/month

I hope this will be a great help for many of us not only the beginners :D!

Have a great day everybody! Let the predictions roll :D

20 shots, 10 accepted, 600 days every day, 3/4 never sold = 1500 images = $15 a month for 2 years every day job

this is totally different for each individual, one will come here and say 2000 dollar with 800 images and the other will have 1000 dollar from 10000 images, doesnt tell anyone how succesful or how much money they will make

"How much can you earn on Shutterstock with random shots?"

Well, you _can_ make nothing.

What would you all think it will be the worst case scenario stats of making an income out of microstock?

Losing money by investing in time and equipment to produce shots that don't pay for your equipment and take up time that could be spent on other, more lucrative pursuits.

Really? Guess I will stop shooting randomness and start shooting predictable set up shots.

Seriously, you can't make any money shooting random. I know this for a fact.

You can only make money by shooting people that are paid to look like they are living large.

It's the only way. He said so.

Sarcasm aside, seriously SJL, you can make a lot of money shooting random. I know this for a fact, and know a lot of people that do as well, even your guy Hugh in the NY Times article about Stocksy that you recently posted will attest to this. Granted he is one of the very good random shooters.

Now the question really is can you make money on SS shooting random. At 0.38c a sale... why bother.

if we all really know the answer, we would tell you? LOL
no, seriously, we do not know the answer,
esp these days when the review is as effed-up as ever
and the flip flop algorithm whatever you call in ss.

if i take my own situation, i would say, you might be surprised that random shots
can make you as much money if not more ... or nothing, as sjl says..

taking the past months for me, after all those set up shots of isolated food bla bla bla
that clients paid me a commissions of 28 to 102 dollars each time vanished off this earth (for me
and many here who reported )...
random shots which were undiscovered,
which i had forgotten i had in my port, as they were really bad ,
i was a beginner at that time,..
are now my top (shucks) earner
of 50 cts a day
down from a lot more .

just upload them, it cost you zero anyway, so why sweat it?
they really don't want contrived well planned well exposed images anyway

that's what we have been talking about these days for months.
they want snapshots and selfies like the mobs.
take random shots which look like it's taken with a mob,
and give it to them. that's what ss really want now.

Shelma wraps it up in short what i said .
iow,
if you are as good as the established contributors like rinderhart, ..etc
don't let ss know you are this good

or else you will join the rest of the experienced contributors down the plynth before you even started
your career with ss ;)

I find that when i set my camera to 'random' i end up with a massive pile of really unintersting images. Mostly of the inside of my camera bag.

The question is - can you do this, and keep your Herbalife business going at the same time?

these days stockastic , anything is possible ;)
you can give your chimp, if you're like the late michael, to take random shots for you while you're working at herbalife..
or you can set it up so you camera can automaticall shoot once xxx per minutes on a revolving
head tripod, or even mount it on a drone,etc..
to shoot randomly while you're out selling herbalife

the sky's the limit, if you have the right camera and apparatus.

finally, since no one wants / or is able to see professional images by experienced contributors like rinderhart, etc..
there is a 50 50 chance your random shots might outsell them

At 0.38 per download, I'd have to sell Herbalife and Amway combined.

.

actually you only get 38cts after selling what?? or having reaching earning , i forgot, 3k dollars???
so, really, if you reached 38 cts per dl just shooting random,
i would say it is definitely worth the bother
compared to many experienced shooters with overheads of models, studio, location,etc..

as shelma already pointed out, losing investment of equipment,etc..
perharps not worth it..
but shooting random might be the solution to this pointless career with ss these days.

your studio shots, etc are not being found or seen,
so why waste anymore time and money shooting those???

i would say, with the demand for mobile images, random shots would be the thing to do.
who knows, you might even start a trend at ss...
as some sites actually only accept a full portfolio of predominantly random shots
and consider it an art  ;)

Bad case: You earn nothing
Worst case: You earn nothing and waste time on forums.

Oh, you can make decent money with random shots on Shutterstock, I know it for a fact.
But only if you happen to own or have access to a time machine.
However, if you do have access to a working time machine, there must be thousands of more lucrative places and time periods to be than Shutterstock 2004-2008.

With random shots you will get random gains

With not random shots you will get random gains too
(It is how microstock works)

Hey, something we agree on ;D

I have random shots in my port and some do well, surprisingly well, while others....not so much. I think you need a good eye, though, to acquire a sellable port if randoms if your primary strategy.

Random shots are commonly known as snapshots. The internet currently contains 1,000,000,000,000,000 snapshots. How many of those are worth anything? Take about 13 zeros off the previous number.

Wandering around the neighborhood taking snaps of everything you see is the favorite strategy of the noob and amateur who thinks there's money to be made in microstock. Certainly there is if $10 US per month represents a nice income in your part of the world.
