Hi everyone, I'm deleting some of my popular images on SS and putting them as RM on alamy (not sure what other RM site to try). Is it okay that they were once sold as RF? Do I have to wait 30 days to say they are exclusive or anything?

Just wondering if someone else has done this or knows. Thanks!

You cannot offer them as exclusive royalty free, because you cannot guarantee that the file will only be used by the client for a special time frame or a specific country. That is where the real money is, exclusive use for a campaign.

You also cannot give the client a history of which industries it has been used in before.

So personally, I wouldnt do it, I would stick to RF.

You could offer as normal RM without any exclusive conditions. Not sure what alamy thinks about that, maybe write to them and ask them.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. So I can offer them as RM but not Exclusive RM?

I will email Alamy to make sure. I'm just sick of giving SS exclusive images for not much return...
I gave up on the other sites so I am uploading only to SS at the moment.

Last I heard was that Alamy now sells much more RF than RM. Taking them from Micro RF and into Alamy RF should be quite OK.

Yes, what Stan said.  If they are regular RF on the micros you also can put them RF on Alamy no problem.  Almost all of my Alamy sales last were were of images that also were RF on the micros.  If they were ever sold RF whether regular or editorial then I don't think you can market them RM - you lost that opportunity by selling them RF in the first place.

Sales on Alamy though are very slow so you might make more on the micros.  The only way to know with your images is to do a test - put half on Alamy and the rest on the micros and see which makes you more money after a year.  Just be sure any you list as RM are different from any RF images.  Good luck!

Commercial should be okay as RF but all editorial at Alamy is RM.

So you can only sell editorials as RM on alamy? Does alamy offer larger return on exclusive RF photos? 500px does but that watermark issue has me on the fence about it ...

Alamy does not have any exclusive benefits. They don't encourage exclusivity.

Most of my sales on Alamy are RM. There is still a big place for RM, especially with editorial/creative. RF is better for generic images where high turnover is expected. With animals for example, some animals are so popular that RF may be the best way to sell them. However for obscure species that are not published very often then RM would be the obvious choice IMO. If you have deleted all the files from being sold as RF then there shouldn't be any problem with you now selling them as RM.

I just want to mention that SS isnt exclusive. You can submit the photos also to Istock, Fotolia, Dreamstime etc.

On Fotolia you can add exclusive images, they definitely favor them in the search.

Ss gives no preference at all and has no exclusive benefits. I would send all those files to the other micros.

500px is macrostock, apart from the watermark issue they seem to have mostly artistic content. I don't know if normal stock will sell there, or how they market themselves.

I know SS is not exclusive but I've grown tired of uploading my files to other sites when my sales decrease every month.
Seems counter productive. I stopped uploading to fotolia as well. I had a good January (due to someone buying EL's) but it is back to the downward spiral so I don't wish to go exclusive with them.

I think I may just do exclusive or RM with alamy.

MY EMAIL:
"I want to sell some RM photos but they were once sold as RF on Shutterstock and Dreamstime.
Is it okay to delete them from those sites and then list them as RM? Do I have to wait 30 days or anything?"

RESPONSE:
"That wouldnt be a problem neither there will be a waiting period, you can just delete them immediately from the other sites and upload at Alamy straight away."

Cheers!
