Author Topic: Once exclusivity is applied for, how long does it take to get an answer? (Read 4339 times)

I decided to take the plunge,
I asked my question on the forums and did not get a really responsive answer, so decided to ask it here. "they" did say it could take several weeks...why so long? are they checking to verify removal of content from other sites? Or truly deciding if they want my port as exclusive? both?

They're only checking your files aren't elsewhere. If you meet the standards (250 dls @50%AR or 500dls), there isn't any other filter on exclusivity.

The new iStock policy is 100% acceptance rate for anything uploaded. Of course if you succeeded to upload:

Och, you're not trying hard enough. I got a rejection as recently as December! (A precisely measured illustration of a classic symbol, which was deemed 'too simple'.)

Do not go exclusive at IS. Really, seriously, do not do it. The place is in freefall and most exclusives are waiting for the right moment to leave.

When my income no longer makes it viable. When I am earning so little that the hit I will have to take on my income becomes considerably less than it would be if I gave up exclusivity now.

Contributors, especially those who make a living at it, need an exit plan. It's not as easy as saying, "I'm out" as fast as Seinfeld's Kramer did. There has to be a plan, where do I upload to, what do I upload, what other means of revenue exist outside of microstock, can I negotiate a special deal with the micros, etc. Sean Locke had a fast exit from Istock but I'd bet that he would have put together a far more robust exit strategy that consumed months before he pulled the plug and, smartly, put some trigger metrics in place that told him it was time.

When I leave, I'm out of micro completely, unless something turns up which looks viable. I see nothing at the moment. They're trying to squeeze every last cent out of their collection, and I guess that's what I'm doing too.

Just hang in there. There are many things that take a long time on iStock for no apparent reason.
