Just logged in after about one month.  Never uploaded much because of the system not reading IPTC data.

Dear Friend

Thank you so much to all those who have contributed to the BigWhiteBox project over the past year and a half. You submitted over nineteen thousand photographs and turned over 2,310 from sales -- all of which has gone (or will be going in the next few weeks) to the photographers and to our supported charities. As promised, the only expense charged to run the site was the payment transaction fees taken by PayPal.

The site has received over 9 million hits since March 2006 and has been featured in magazines and radio shows worldwide. All those who contributed are a testament to the good nature of people and the power of collaboration. The internet is an astonishing tool and if we all work together it's truly mind-blowing what can be achieved.

It is with deep regret that I must now close the site as it has become too time consuming to manage by myself. The site needs considerable technological investment to expand further and I no longer have the means to carry out the required work. I'm sure you will understand why it is best for me to end the project here.

Over the next few weeks I will be processing the accounts and distributing via PayPal any monies owed to photographers that earned 20 or more. If money is subsequently unclaimed by photographers after one month, that income will be split evenly between Oxfam, Care and Save the Children. Once this process has been fulfilled I will destroy any personal data held.

Thanks again and have a brilliant Christmas and New Year

Dave

Wow...I was just there last week.  Although I stopped contributing a long time ago, I'm still sad to see BigWhiteBox go.  It was a worthy concept.

Let's hope someone buys the idea and maybe sponsor the site or something.

Regards,
Adelaide
