I find that being a woman seems to raise less hackles when I'm shooting editorial.
I once read an interview with a well-known woman documentary photographer who could get into places men couldn't, because those in charge didn't believe she was a PJ.

It is not something I have ever thought about.  Women photographers have been part of the history of photography from the very beginning-- Anna Atkins, Julia Margaret Cameron, Dorothea Lange, Imogen Cunningham, Diane Arbus, Mary Ellen Mark.....

Do women have a different "voice" or eye?  Maybe.  Sometimes.
Do women photograph different subjects?  Maybe.  Sometimes.

I am not aware of any specific challenges.  However, I do like contests and exhibits limited to women photographers.

In China, female photographers are divided into two extremes, either badly, or top photographers, such as Chen Man, a photographer from China!

On the whole women make better photographers than men.

Men are too hung up on technical rubbish like megapixels and the latest kit.

Women are better at styling shots and compositions

I agree, with men it is always "who has bigger"

It appears the OP, Christ2237, has checked out of this forum. Toss in a grenade and run away to watch from a distance.

I don't see any sense in this thread. Women can't hold the camera or what?

No they can't they are too busy having babies, cleaning house  and fetching their husband's cocktail after a busy day at the office  ::)

What makes you think they have challenges?

My best friend is a great female photographer and finds it so much easier to get the sort of work she wants (Mum's/ babies/pets family portraits) than I do for every 5 clients she gives discounts if they are happy to sign a release so she can earn even more from stock.

Whats up with this one, a feminazi white knighting syndrome in the making?

And that, of course, is why I do the cooking (it's not just to prep for photos). There's only so much compassion and forgiveness one can show the little women when she screws up the dinner (again!!!). It's hard being a man!!

I'm a female photographer.  I don't think I face any extra challenges due to being female.  I'm a one-person shop and do this as a moonlighting job.  Maybe full-time people have a different experience.
