To whomever tried to turn this thread political, shame on you, it's about helping not assigning blame. I have been getting reports from a friend that was affected and slowly but surely the help is coming, they were overwhelmed by the terrain and sheer scope of the devastation. He told me to make people ask for help loud and clear with gps coordinates and needs like food, water clothing and blankets. If they know where to drop them and what is needed it helps them a lot. Call your local governments with that information.

In the meantime, the next hurricane is building up and heading for Florida - wind speeds are currently 280 km/h.
This is not really a topic to get into "politically" or with conspiracy theories. "Milton" could lead to the next catastrophe. Depending on how the hurricane moves, this could also be the case for North Carolina.
To feign sympathy for those affected in one sentence – cleverly packaged as a question – and then go on to express conspiracy theories in many sentences is, in fact, completely out of order. That's why I reacted so cynically. It made me angry!

Incidentally, as a European, I don't find Wck.org ideal because a donation via paypal takes up to 45 days to arrive where it is needed.

In other news, the very warm Gulf of Mexico is super-charging Hurricane Milton to rip across the Florida Peninsula starting Wednesday. It will be another disaster of epic proportions made even worse by the aftermath of Helene and the fact that resources will be exhausted and spread thin.

Like I said before, I do not trust either party. I tend to focus on how I can help those around me in need. I don't expect the gov. to come and help in any way so I am not frustrated or dissappointed. The community respones is amazing and needs are being covered well! Focus on what matters and ignore the rest, amazing progress is being made by the people without the gov. that is a good thing! I can share so many stories of people stepping up and givng all they have to help others. Bye bye to the gov. we shall survive and in good fashion.

I also see that anarchy dominate in the states that support the Republicans! Yes, of course, anarchy is not just a word, it is a way of life. But I do not think that most people want to live in an anarchic society. The Democrats and Biden are to blame for all the problems in the southern states. I am watching a video of people running away from Florida, leaving everything behind. There is no organized evacuation, no fuel, the authorities are inactive. What will happen to people's homes and property? Yes, something is probably insured. But are all the people young and healthy, and can jump up and run away at any moment? Personally, I see complete inaction on the part of Biden and the Democratic Party. This is being done specifically to weaken the states that support the Republicans.

what's obscenely hypocritical is that trump's project 2025 aims to reduce/eliminate funding for FEMA - the main US agency that responds to disasters - they're already underfunded and have had to deal this year with major wildfires, flooding and hurricanes.

Yes, the laser cannons - a real problem! Equally amazing is that there are still dogs, cats, guinea pigs and tortoises - at a time when hungry people from Haiti are eating all the pets there are.

Hundreds of years ago, there were people who claimed that their neighbor ate rats - if things went badly, the lady was taken away and burned as a witch.

And today there is social media, where people who otherwise don't get enough attention write some garbage and get millions of likes and followers - for whatever reason.

It just makes me sad! And I have no idea where it's going to end. In times when any of us all over the planet could be hit by a natural disaster of unimaginable proportions. Like recently in the USA and hundreds of other places on this planet. The important thing is: it's always down to evil forces! It's never down to us! SUVs or pick-ups must of course become heavier and have a higher engine. An electric car with less than 1000 hp - unthinkable! 95 million new cars produced on earth - every year. But it can't be down to us that everything is falling apart at the seams. There must be evil forces at play!

Trump is feeding lies about everything under the sun and you are turning it into gospel and facts. No illegal immigrants have taken the FEMA money, their budget office just released the figures, you can clearly see a lot of the spending was on other storms and wild fires.

BTW if you think either political party is going to fix your life, you better buy a good waiting chair, the cult of MAGA is really clouding your judgement. Better way to go is go out and help and or donate for disaster relief. And no Democrats don't control the weather, and as my friend Roger in the national guard says, "We sweat blood and tears helping people in need but we get no headlines" They are probably working overtime now but politicians just want to smear each other and never show any positive signs of action by our guard or volunteers.
