From what I heard - the "floods" (& the reason there is deliberately "no govt help" and in fact trying to "stop" ppl from helping others) is because...

Apparently there is a company trying to "buy" the "mining" rights for both lithium & quartz (extremely profitable for the "ai" stuff/computer chips/electronic vehicles, literally worth 'billions' of dollars), and the residents were refusing to sell - so the company hired a bunch of planes to do cloud seeding to deliberatley 'flood' the mountains (which is virtually unheard of)... and they don't want other people helping them (literally trying to bankrupt the residents - "force" them out of their homes), hence no support/guard/etc - and in fact people trying to help are being 'prevented' by the national guard/fema/etc... does that sound accurate/is that correct from what you see?

Anyways... what can one actually do to assist you?

I have lived in these mountains most of my life, the news is not talking about or showing you how bad it really is! Whole towns are completely gone, I have been working the past 4 days in just helping who we can. Aunt's house gone, work place flooded and having to relocate and we have it good!!! It is a pity that something like this is happening in the richest and most highly developed country like the USA. But now you know what has been happening in Ukraine for 10 years and especially for the last 2.5 years. You found yourself in similar conditions. The only difference is the number of people killed. How many people have died in your country?

I have been trying to follow this disaster and am amazed that with a coming election there is no support at all.

what's obscenely hypocritical is that trump's project 2025 aims to reduce/eliminate funding for FEMA - the main US agency that responds to disasters - they're already underfunded and have had to deal this year with major wildfires, flooding and hurricanes.

I have a friend who works EMS in Henderson County and they have over 1k body bags! The numbers are in the thousands if you count all the counties involved. Here in Germany, we read that over 200 people died in the USA as a result of Helene, that over 600 were missing and that - in the medium and long term - thousands of deaths could follow as a result of the effects of hurricanes. This could happen as a result of destroyed medical infrastructure, money being saved for the healthcare system because the money would be needed to repair the damage, people losing their jobs and therefore their health insurance, and so on.

It also states that $75 in emergency aid for food and drink is available for each person affected and that there would be financial support of up to $42,500 for rebuilding or repairing the home.
